Tavern In The Village
Not one of the good visits for us. A server, not our own, seemed unhappy that we weren’t seated in our section and kept coming by and talking to us and saying, come next Sunday and sit in my section. Um. Okay. Then he just kept talking about golf, etc. We weren’t there to hear about him. We were there for my birthday. About the food: I had the croissant BLT. When asked how I wanted my eggs, I asked for over medium. They came out over easy with both runny yolks and whites just making a huge mess. The server we had did off to have it remade but there were 4 others ready to start and I hate to make them wait or have to wait for a full re-cook. So I let it slide. But, please learn to cook eggs when you are serving them! Finally, stepped out with my cocktail to smoke at the far end of the side walk and was told I would have to go around the corner and couldn’t take my cocktail. There was in table seated, but they were very far down by the front door. So, leave my cocktail and look around the corner. Nope. It’s hot, in direct sun and trash area. At the very end, one of our out of town guests asked me where the men’s room was. I lifted my right hand parallel to my shoulder to pint behind me not knowing the server was standing right there with a handful of plates and slammed my hand into a corner of the bottom plate. Hard. With the beignets, missing napkins, silverware. Just not a great experience. And ask Bobby Jones to leave patrons alone. We don’t care that he’s bummed he didn’t get our table in his section. We just sat where the host sat us.
Best friends bday!
I ordered the roasted beet salad, was very disappointed in the freshness of the lettuce. The roll tasted like it was out of a package, not good at all!
We love the comfortable ambiance at Tavern. The food is consistently good, and we’ve tried nearly everything on the menu many times (we’ve been there over 100 times!). The waitstaff is friendly but not imposing, and the food seems generally a pretty good value. It’s convenient for us in Prairie Village, too.
My crab cakes and steak salad were very good. Table mates Beef stroganoff good, fish tacos excellent but steak sandwich just ok. We like the ambiance here
My husband and I booked a 530 reservation after reviewing menu and happy hour menu online. We were time constrained with a 7pm commitment in Fairway. We were seated promptly and found happy hour is bar only. Not surprising based on where crowd was, but disappointing relative to O’Neill’s which has happy hour in both bar and restaurant as does Cactus Grill.
I ordered Thai Vegetable Stirfry with chicken, my husband steak sandwich. Both were disappointing.
The Thai stirfry consisted of Brussels sprouts and red radishes. Quite surprising, not Thai in the least. Piles of “noodles”. Menu said rice noodles, these were much more like linguini. And, the 4 pieces of chicken were cooked separately and laid on top. Not incorporated to,stir fry as I’d expect.
My husband’s steak sandwich was bad. The meat was grey—over cooked—the waiter didn’t ask how he wanted it prepared. And the steak was a sirloin laid on the bun with mayo and onion. The meat was not sliced making it sandwich inedible, and was full of gristle, fat, and tendon.
Oh yes, and the bruschetta appetizer, was 3 pieces inch thick bread slices, a very few halved cherry tomatoes, with melted mozzarella and pesto on top. That’s not bruschetta, not sure what it is, but as notdescribed nor as the norm.
Needless to say, we won’t return. I’m mystified by the great reviews, although the steak sandwich seems to be a recurring problem based on other reviews. And a $50 bill for a substandard experience.
The hostess (Hazel) was very pleasant and make us feel very welcome!
We eat at both Tavern locations often. They have a great menu and we always enjoy!
I have been frequented Tavern since they opened. But, I have a more difficult time ordering almost every time I go in because they keep adding more and more spicy food which I can’t eat or enjoy. I love the place; love 5e ambiance. Yesterday I just had the baked Brie for lunch. I could always just have dessert, those are always good. Just wish they would have more for us wimps against spice could choose from.
This one of our go to restaurants if we are ever entertaining a guest from out of town. We enjoy the quaintness of the area, the excellent service and the diverse menu. However, this particular visit was less than stellar. My meal in particular was not good. It really wasn't edible. I ordered a steak sandwich which sounded excellent and when served I was eased. Unfortunately, the meal didn't go well from there. The steak comes as piece of tenderloin and it was impossible to bite into cleanly. I thought I'd give an open face go at it and waited for our server to request a steak knife. Eventually, we caught his eye and got a knife to work with. Well...still no go. There was so much fat and tendon cartlidge that the steak knife struggled. I gave up and placed my now mutilated steak on an app plate from earlier which hadn't been cleared. I guess what bothered me was that when the server came back and started clearing plates, wouldn't it seem obvious there was something wrong w my meal? He said nothing. He took our plates and that was it.
We did have a lovely app of grilled brie, my bf had a Thai bowl which he enjoyed and our guest had a chicken salad that she said was "fine". Will I be back, gosh I hope so. I'm sure this was just a blip but if the steak sandwich is new to the menu, they may want to rethink it.
There was only one server in the bar and she had too many tables. We ordered the chicken dish and were underwhelmed.
Food, service and ambience were all good. Really liked the patio seating.
First time there for my party of three. All of us were impressed with the variety on the menu. The service was attentive and fast in a nearly full house. The noise level was high, but we managed to hear one another. Will definitely be back!
I came here with 2 friends. We have been to Tavern at Mission Farms several times and here at Prairie willage a couple of times. Service was great and so was the food. Only complaint I have is my main dish. I had a scallop special which was white beans and root vegetables with scallops. The dinner was very tasty, but there was only 3 scallops and it was $25. I feel like any scallop DINNER should come with 4-5 scallops for that price. Like I said, it was delicious, but I won't get it again for that price.
A very nice local restaurant that offers consistently good service and food
The Tavern never disappoints. The food and service is always consittant.
The brunch was DELICIOUS!! I will def be going back! Our server was wonderful! Overall great experience!
Always the perfect setting, every time I’ve been there. I’m never disappointed..
Wonderful as always !
One of my very favorite neighborhood spots! Everything thing about The Tavern is excellent. Our food came quickly and our server was super friendly and fun. First I have been for brunch- priced just right. Thank you!
Once again, our service was great, as was the food. The crab cakes benedict were wonderful. Surprised more restaurants don't offer this! Truly a neighborhood gem!
Tavern in the Village is noisy, making it hard for older people to talk. That's why I really appreciate that my request for a booth was rewarded with the very back booth. Thanks! The food is generally good, but because I'm gluten and lactose free I have to try to adjust entrees. I especially like the trout but the accompaniments don't work for me so I felt the changes I requested were clear to the server. But I got a very heavy sauce on the trout with bacon that I had to scrape off. My friend had a similar experience. Also, servers have a habit of bringing the main course when we're still eating the salad. A few fixes will make Tavern perfect for me.
Everything was wonderful!
Great and love Jason
Crab cakes excellent. Nice quiet place with attentive servers
Have had two great experiences at Taven in the Village during the last 6 months. This one was not so great with regard to the entrees. Our grilled salmon was overdone on one of our entrees and the other entree (gnocchi) the chicken was overdone and there were mushroom stems in the entree that were very rubbery and unedible. Disappointing this time and hopefully more attention will be paid to not overcooking as a result of this review.
My friend and I prefer Tavern in the Village to the one on Mission. As usual, it was a perfect dinner and opportunity to enjoy not cooking and time to catch up with a friend.
Always great and consistent. My go to place!
We had a wonderful experience at the Tavern in the Village. The hostess was very sensitive to the fact that I was with my 92 year old mom. She sat us in an area where there weren't as many people and away from the air conditioning. Both of these considerations were very thoughtful and much appreciative. The service was great and the food is always good.
We enjoyed our entrees: grilled salmon with kale salad and chicken tarragon. Service was good. However, I feel obligated to report that the men's bathroom seemed dirty. The floor was greasy and wet, making me feel like I might slide. My wife commented that her bathroom also appeared dirty.
We visited for lunch. Would be nice if they would have a lunch size portion on their salads. I wanted the Steak salad and had to spend $16 on it for lunch. Seems a little pricey for a salad and especially for lunch. It was very good but not worth $16.
Great place for a caaual dinner with friends. A little hard to talk over the other conversations
Our server James was extremely knowledgeable and the food was fantastic!
Consistently good food and the bartender was very busy, but took excellent care of us. One of our favorite places to eat out.
We went for Brunch on Father’s Day. Our Open Table reservation booked for outdoor seating. When we arrived, we were taken
To the back part of the restaurant, being it was my first time, figured maybe they had a Courtyard or something. We were taken to regular table and the dining area was very loud.
When I went to asked hostess about my reservation and how I reserved outside seating, she informed me that Open Table offers it, however it’s first come first serve and they do not really make reservations for outside seating.
Okay... well then maybe that should be something fixed on the “Open Table “ website to not give that option. So we are pretty laid back couple, opted then to sit in the bar area near a window. What I ordered was delicious, no complaining .. my husband ordered the burger in which he ordered medium rare. The burger plate all looked amazing until he bit into the burger and it was more like well done. Now I on the other hand like my meat cooked, but people that like their meet rare, really do mean rare. Our lovely waiter was very apologetic , offered something else or another one. However, he was ready to go, being that our food actually took a tad longer than normal. We did not make a fuss being we were not in a hurry, but I even thought it was taking a little long. I had the Avocado Toast which was just perfect. The burger was taken off the ticket, so overall the place was accommodating, except for the outdoor seating. I would still go back, because the menu options looked so good and would like to try lunch or dinner there.
Father’s Day brunch was great
Brunch took over 50 minutes to get food to table. Unacceptable
Wonderful service and great food loved it
We have enjoyed the food and service at The Tavern at least 15 times or more over the years. It is consistently good. A very attractive venue, easy parking, great service and a creative menu. The food is
interesting, well presented. It leaves you wishing you had some extra room for desert. It's in the Prairie Village Shopping Center venue so it's easy to get to. The service is quick but attentive. If you want drinks and time to chat before ordering they make sure you get that. Also, the drink offerings are ample both in wine, beer and liquor. I've been there with my wife and family and with friends and business people. Never regretted the choice. Nice windows too so you feel the outside effectively brought inside for a roomier feeling. The booths are large and comfortable. I've had a few three hour lunches there discussing business or other matters and never felt rushed. So, a great place to go to enjoy a great lunch or dinner.
Sebastian, our waiter was very efficient and personable.
