Tavern at Mission Farms Ratings and Reviews
The food was outstanding. Menu is full of comfort food options. We had seafood pot pie and vegetarian noodle dish with homemade donuts for dessert. Yummo!!! Very rich though. If you are looking for lean or veg, this isn’t the place. If you are looking for richly prepared cuisine, we highly recommend it. Even though we generally eat very healthy, this place was a nice treat date night out. Our server Matt was impeccably attentive and personable.
I hosted a group of friends and we have known one another for 40 years, all no longer needing the
placement of a 5 in our age, for that has now become a 6! Two of the couples at the table
drove over from St. Louis for the "going away Brunch" for the two being feted. The four from
The East had not been with those living in The West for many years. It felt as if no time had
passed and being in The Tavern At Mission Farms was a big part of our time together.
The Tavern At Mission Farms was a perfect joice of venue for hosting this event. The service is always EXCELLENT and I eat at this restaurant about 2 times each month, if not more. Keeping
service to the fore, everything about The Tavern keeps getting better all the time. The food is always well prepared and it is interesting fare without being pretentious, for The Tavern is anything but!! It is possible to have a quite conversation between two friends or a table full of cross-talk between a large group of friends. One can have a business lunch or dinner with the entire family or it is possible to walk in and take a seat at the welcoming bar and watch a Royals Game or Chiefs Game or just have a friendly exchange with the "barkeep!"
The Tavern At Mission Farms serves the neighborhood and the region, and it is worth driving an extra mile or five to experience a welcoming place that is so well run by Owners and Management
that truly cares than one never notices all the "rehearsals" that had taken place befor Opening Night!
We visited The Tavern to celebrate our son's birthday (his choice!). As we'd experienced in the past the ambiance was very good and the service was impeccable from start to finish. My wife and son both raved about their entrees. My choice was the fish of the day, mako shark, which turned out to be a mistake, since the large filet came undercooked and had a slightly "off" flavor which was not enhanced by its perch atop a mound of forgettable fresh spinach and jasmine rice. Two of us had also ordered the Caesar salad which, while plentiful, came to the table without the anchovies we'd requested (for which our waiter apologized - they apparently had "run out" of anchovies!), and with a dressing that was somewhat more bland than we might have liked. As a final note, we were seated in the rear dining area and found the very high noise level made it almost impossible to carry on a conversation without having to shout. Overall this experience was not quite in keeping with other more enjoyable visits to The Tavern we'd had previously.
My husband and I were there for dinner last Sunday night. It was not very busy that evening yet it took over five minutes for somebody to come greet us at the table and take our drink order. My husband ordered the chicken Parmesan and I ordered the Cuban sandwich. My sandwich was very good but my husband said the chicken Parmesan had no taste. Our server and another person, most likely the manager, came to ask us how the food was and I said my food was good and my husband answered both times that his was just OK, yet neither time was he asked to elaborate. When his plate was picked up, our server did not comment why most of it was still there, uneaten. We were disappointed that nobody really cared. We have dined there several times before and we’ve had much better service and food in past visits.
We used to be regulars at Tavern but it has been pretty hit or miss lately. We had a very disinterested waiter on Wednesday evening so our drinks were watery by the time someone else finally delivered them and our dinner was just warm. The cream of mushroom soup was outstanding however!
We always enjoy the service and the food! We normally dine here on Sundays for brunch or lunch. Great selection for either! The servers and hostess are marvelous! The manager is very friendly and always says hi. They go above and beyond to ensure we have a pleasant dining experience. Have never left here unhappy with our meal or the service.
Our service was fine, the wine recommendation good and the salad and dessert delicious. However, the entrees were not as good as we had hoped. The osso buco was just average and the trout overcooked and somewhat dry. We will certainly return, but will probably stick with salads, sandwiches and appetizers in the future.
Not great today. Normally this is my “go to” place, as I can always count on the food and the service, as a nice place to bring business contacts and others. Today, though the restaurant was not busy at all, our server rushed us all the way through, in a way you’d expect if he were pressured to turn over the table. Even as I was paying our bill, and we were wrapping up conversations, he was clearing all of the things from the table that normally are tended to after you leave (unused silverware, etc.). It was invasive and seemed unnecessary. Maybe it was the end of his shift? Not sure.
I usually go there during the week, so maybe there is a difference in the staff. I am hopeful that this was just a fluke.
I can't really recommend this place. It may just have been an off night but we likely won't give it another try. Former residents of Overland Park, we were in town for the weekend from MA & this place was suggested by a friend. We had a res & were seated immediately which was nice. On first impression, we liked it. Our waiter, David (forgot last name initial) really wasn't very friendly tho'. I'd have to say that he seemed disinterested bordering on surly. We ordered drinks, & he eventually came back to take our dinner orders. If there 'were' any, we weren't notified of any specials. I ordered the half chicken with 2 sides & my husband ordered filet mignon with mashed potato + asparagus. We both ordered salads. Hidden in the lettuce of my caesar was a large solid ball (the size of a large plum) of what appeared to be (maybe?) caesar dressing, cheese + croutons all left in a big lump. I poked at it & it didn't fall apart so I left it alone & nibbled at the lettuce and then shoved the whole thing aside. A different waiter came by and took our salad plates. Although I hadn't complained, he came back a minute later and asked me, 'Was that big ball of "stuff" in your salad delivered to you that way?' I said that it had been. He shook his head and said that my salad would be removed from our bill. (It was. Thank you.) Our meals were brought out by yet another server. My meal was as I had ordered it, but my husband received a cajun strip steak (or something like that) with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Signaling our waiter, he explained that this steak was not what he had ordered. He restated his original order. David argued a little bit and suggested my husband 'had' ordered the cajun. Bad form, David. (note: NEVER in 37 years have I heard my husband order anything 'cajun'.) I was 3/4 done with my meal by the time my husband got his correct meal delivered unpleasantly by David. The coffee and tea we finished with were delivered similarly. Disappointing.
Had dinner there with my wife, daughter and son-in-law who were visiting from Savannah. Expected a nice dinner with family. The service was terrible; slow, no tableware on the table when salad was served. Manager ended up taking the orders because the assigned waitress was so slow.
