Great overall! Got to be rooftop
It is okay, not fancy but only 3 floors and rooftop is more benches and shared table, it is more likely ke tapas than fine dining
Food was delicious, prices reasonable, and service well-run.
The whiskey & cokes I purchased here had barely any alcohol in them, which is a crime considering how much they were.
Brunch on a Saturday for 4 people.
Nice location, good food, though it took an hour to come out. We ordered unlimited drinks which we had to keep requesting refills for and then they still took a long time to get to us even though we were seated next to the bar.
May be we just had a bad experience as it was recommended to me by friends who had a great time there.
I chose this place because it was on the list of best NYC rooftop bars. We came from CT and made a reservation online. Unfortunately, it rained and the rooftop was closed when we got there. Still, we were seated right away in a cozy little booth. Very pretty atmosphere and interesting menu. We have the Barratta, Duck Burger and Beet Salad with Salmon. Delish! The service was great and the food was amazing. Only problem was when it stopped raining we wanted to enjoy our last glass of wine on the roof, but the management wouldn't let us go up there because no staff was up there. It felt weird that we just spent over $130 on lunch and they wouldn't let us enjoy our last glass of wine on the roof even though it was turning into a nice day. Luckily our waitress was sweet enough to get us a drink on the house and resat us in the bar. PS if you go here you absolutely have to get the Parmesan fries. They're the best I ever had!
This was my second time going here with a large group of friends for a birthday. Best to go with a large group on non-typical bar night...like a Tuesday or Wednesday to ensure that you'll get a seat on the roof. It would be better if you could get guaranteed seating on the rooftop with a reservation and a minimum amount of people, but that's not the case. Service could be better. It was a pretty hot day and we got served warm water with no ice on the rooftop. Waitresses just need to be more in tune with customer needs. Overall it's fun with a group or casual date. Good food.
We sat on the roof deck. Waitress was great, but the problem is everything (cocktails, soft drinks and food), comes from the first floor and takes forever. It took over 30mins to get my drink. They need to install a dumbwaiter to help speed up the process and not to have their folks climbing up and down 3+ flights of stairs for everything! Faster food= happier customers+faster seat turnover!
Can't judge too well. After we were sat we waited 10 minutes to be told that they were super busy
Rooftop deck is a terrific space. Brunch value is very good and the food was OK. Service was disorganized and very slow.
This was our first time, definitely won't be our last. My husband and I enjoyed everything about Tavern 29! The food was delicious, the drinks were awesome (not watered down, like some other places)
Overall good experience!!
This place is so fun. 3 levels including a rooftop with communal style dining , it's worth coming here after work or just with a few friends to enjoy the night. Can be very loud-so wouldn't recommend for a first date or an overly romantic setting.
Also, I haven't had a black bean burger since college-where I had one that completely turned me off from them for over 5 years. I had their black bean and quinoa burger and had to stop myself from stuffing my face, it was so good!
Quite possibly the worst experience that I have had at a restaurant in years. Made 12:45 reservations and arrived early. My party was seated promptly we sat on the rooftop deck and was served water. And that's it. We sat waiting for our food for 45 minutes before we got up and left. Waiter came over twice to say that he was speaking to the manager about why it took so long but it was an effort in futility. Will probably never return.
So much fun on their rooftop. Picnic tables, communal seating, hipsters, in the heart of Manhattan.
This is an okay option in midtown for a beer and a burger if you don't want to wait, but it's generally not exceptional. The rooftop deck is fun in a way but not very nice -- you kind of feel like your crammed into a not very interesting public park at a not very clean picnic table.
We went because we knew they had outdoor seating. I'm not sure if it was b/c it was a holiday or the staff was done for the day, but the service was slow and brusque. One friend got the mac and cheese and the other got a chicken wrap, which they both didn't eat. They said the food was terrible. I got the beet salad which was delicious, but didn't make up for everything else being disappointing.
Based on the reviews, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, it was quickly diminished because of the following reasons: limited selection due to late shipment and (b) the waiter failed to take our correct order.
Unprofessional male host. We had reservations & be told us the tables were for reserved guest only and we needed to sit at the bar. The other lady hostess corrected him and made him aware that we indeed did have reservations and deserved a table. Once seated, we waited over 15 min for someone to assist us/take our orders! Food was delicious but everything else was subpar!
Great place. One recommendation: get a few more servers up there on the roof, so the ones working won't feel overwhelmed--especially during brunch time.
Our waitress was a bit slow but overall the decor, food and ambiance was great!
Ally was our server for Sunday brunch and she did an outstanding job! Truly enjoyed her energy and made our experience great. Service like that is what would keep me and my friends coming back.
Really nice food and good atmosphere but unfortunately far too noisy for conversation over dinner. Great staff!
Food was decent but service was so slow. It was a busy place for a Tuesday night but the amount of time it took to get simple things like water and utensils and napkins was insane. We had to ask other people who worked there for anything we needed because we were rarely checked on. The bar looked nice for post work drinks but a quick dinner took way too long, over 2 hours.
Poor service, delayed (or more likely forgotten) entree, and hair in it when it finally arrived. Not worth the rooftop option. First and last brunch for us at Tavern29.
Absolutely amazing! Love the service, LOVE the food and such a nice vibe! Also, they were super nice to my younger cousins (4 kids under 12)
My wife and I were celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary and we are so glad we chose here. We had a wonderful waitress, Lauren, who was just the nicest and most helpful person. She gave us drink and food recommendations, and even helped my wife find something that was delicious and worked for my wife's dietary needs. The food we had was incredible. I ordered a Hangover Burger, and my wife got the fried chicken Caesar salad, with a side of sweet potato fries. These were some of the best fries I've ever had. We both ate our food like we've never eaten before because it was so delicious. It was a great experience and we will definitely be going back.
The food was great, the drinks were amazing, and the service was OUTSTANDING. I never had to ask for a refill, my waitress would see my mimosa getting low and just come on over to fill it up. 12/10, definitely recommend.
Double date pictures look a little different then website, but overall very good experience.
A good friend and her mother were visiting from Canada and wanted to go to a spot close to their hotel with an outdoor space. I last-minute went on yelp, and found that Tavern 29 had 4 yelp stars and was a block away from their hotel, so made a reservation! Unfortunately our experience was less than stellar.
The table we sat at was family style- so we were closely sharing a bench with the party next to us. The service was non-existent. The party next to us passed over our drinks and food. I had to get up multiple times to fetch water and napkins. And the worst part- the food was awful, VERY salty. Needless to say, I was not only super embarrassed, but also left the restaurant hungry.
I NEVER write negative reviews but I feel as though yelp was very misleading and I hope to inspire the place to get their sh*t together - or at the least, discourage others from making the same mistake.
The best part about my time at Tavern 29 was our waitress. Ally was absolutely outstanding. I would go back only if I could have her as my waitress. She might have been one of the best I've ever had and I used to wait tables in college.
The food was okay. I think it sat out too long and came to my table pretty lukewarm. Maybe it's what I ate, but it wasn't fantastic.
They didn't see our reservation and made us sit at the bar, and then didn't do anything to apologize.
good for young people and for live TV, also good music
Slow service. Nice rooftop bar and seating.
Our server was so nice! And the hostess was very accommodating. Would go back just for the service.
Terrible service, limited menu, stale champagne.
Came here for brunch on the roof and was very disappointed. The roof was great, but nothing else was. One person didnt get their food for 30 minutes after the rest of the table. The champagne had no bubbles. There were only 4 items to choose from on the menu.
I had been there in the past, and it was great. I think they have changed a lot of stuff, clearly for the worst.
We had a hearty burger and a beer on the roof deck. The staff was attentive and friendly. If you want to have a well made pub lunch in lower Midtown, this spot fits the bill perfectly.
Friendly and accommodating hostess and waitress. Tavern burger paired with IPA was delicioso! Inside noise level was beyond loud! Music was way too loud, making it difficult to engage in conversation with friends. Due to this, our group moved to the rooftop, a nicer and quieter alternative.
Had the Tavern Burger and it did not disappoint. Matter of fact probably one of the best burgers I ever had.
Overall, Tavern29 was a good brunch experience. Despite having a reservation, the greatest drawback was that they placed my party on the rooftop when there were plenty of tables downstairs, inside. Not sure why they did that.
