Tavern 29 Ratings and Reviews
The heat was broken, so it was freezing inside; we had a reservation but had to wait for our table to get ready; I had to ask for a refill to my unlimited mimosas EVERY TIME- anywhere else I’ve gone to bottomless brunch in the city, the staff is attentive and refill before I finish. Poor service, and mediocre food that was over priced.
Unfortunately, there was only 1 waitress so service was a bit slow. I don’t fault her for that since she had a lot of tables to attend to. Also, happy hour is only from 5-6pm which is a very short window. The food, however was absolutely amazing. The tavern burger was probably the second best burger I’ve had. I highly recommend if you’re a meat eater. The fries were also perfectly crispy and delicious.
We went as a group of four for bottomless service, right at 11 when they opened. We were a few minutes early, and we greeted and treated so nicely by all staff members! Hostess was so kind and welcoming, our server, who was also the bartender, was incredibly kind and attentive. The mimosas and bloody marys were strong and tasty! Our food was delicious and the server was very knowledgeable about the menu. We had 2 hours with the bottomless, and had a great time all around! The bar is beautiful, cozy and seemed like a great escape from busy city life. I would 10/10 recommend to anyone visiting the city! Thank you!
Do not go here on a weekend night . The food and service was very good but the noise level was the loudest I’ve ever heard in a dining/bar establishment. It was deafening. The staff did reseat us to a slightly less ear shattering corner but it was still painful. I’m not sure what kind of a place Tavern 29 wants to be but it’s not a place to go and enjoy a drink and a bite without serious ear damage. Maybe if you’re a drunk Millinnial it’s perfect.(there were enough of them unfortunately ). Really a shame...had my wedding reception here and it was perfect..
Horrible experience going here for brunch with my boyfriend. Our server Christine was extremely unattentive, we asked for water multiple times and she only refilled our glass once. I was so dehydrated. Our table was getting zero attention. The food was also horrible. The eggs Benedict arepas were so bland and not seasoned with anything. The only thing good about this place was the 1 mimosa I ordered. Yelp reviews are not an accurate representation of this place.
Overall - food was good, but service was poor. It took an hour and a half to get (most of) our food, and for some of us it was cold, leading us to believe it was likely sitting and waiting, meanwhile other patrons who arrived and ordered after had already received theirs. One of my friends had to wait an additional 30 minutes to receive his meal.
Tavern 29 is a great place for a boozy brunch. We got the bottomless Mimosas deal. It was great! The waitress ended up giving us a pitcher of Mimosas since our food was taking a while. Definitely worth it. This is good place for casual brunch and big groups.
Brunch on a Saturday for 4 people.
Nice location, good food, though it took an hour to come out. We ordered unlimited drinks which we had to keep requesting refills for and then they still took a long time to get to us even though we were seated next to the bar.
May be we just had a bad experience as it was recommended to me by friends who had a great time there.
I chose this place because it was on the list of best NYC rooftop bars. We came from CT and made a reservation online. Unfortunately, it rained and the rooftop was closed when we got there. Still, we were seated right away in a cozy little booth. Very pretty atmosphere and interesting menu. We have the Barratta, Duck Burger and Beet Salad with Salmon. Delish! The service was great and the food was amazing. Only problem was when it stopped raining we wanted to enjoy our last glass of wine on the roof, but the management wouldn't let us go up there because no staff was up there. It felt weird that we just spent over $130 on lunch and they wouldn't let us enjoy our last glass of wine on the roof even though it was turning into a nice day. Luckily our waitress was sweet enough to get us a drink on the house and resat us in the bar. PS if you go here you absolutely have to get the Parmesan fries. They're the best I ever had!
This was my second time going here with a large group of friends for a birthday. Best to go with a large group on non-typical bar night...like a Tuesday or Wednesday to ensure that you'll get a seat on the roof. It would be better if you could get guaranteed seating on the rooftop with a reservation and a minimum amount of people, but that's not the case. Service could be better. It was a pretty hot day and we got served warm water with no ice on the rooftop. Waitresses just need to be more in tune with customer needs. Overall it's fun with a group or casual date. Good food.
We sat on the roof deck. Waitress was great, but the problem is everything (cocktails, soft drinks and food), comes from the first floor and takes forever. It took over 30mins to get my drink. They need to install a dumbwaiter to help speed up the process and not to have their folks climbing up and down 3+ flights of stairs for everything! Faster food= happier customers+faster seat turnover!
This place is so fun. 3 levels including a rooftop with communal style dining , it's worth coming here after work or just with a few friends to enjoy the night. Can be very loud-so wouldn't recommend for a first date or an overly romantic setting.
Also, I haven't had a black bean burger since college-where I had one that completely turned me off from them for over 5 years. I had their black bean and quinoa burger and had to stop myself from stuffing my face, it was so good!
Quite possibly the worst experience that I have had at a restaurant in years. Made 12:45 reservations and arrived early. My party was seated promptly we sat on the rooftop deck and was served water. And that's it. We sat waiting for our food for 45 minutes before we got up and left. Waiter came over twice to say that he was speaking to the manager about why it took so long but it was an effort in futility. Will probably never return.
This is an okay option in midtown for a beer and a burger if you don't want to wait, but it's generally not exceptional. The rooftop deck is fun in a way but not very nice -- you kind of feel like your crammed into a not very interesting public park at a not very clean picnic table.
We went because we knew they had outdoor seating. I'm not sure if it was b/c it was a holiday or the staff was done for the day, but the service was slow and brusque. One friend got the mac and cheese and the other got a chicken wrap, which they both didn't eat. They said the food was terrible. I got the beet salad which was delicious, but didn't make up for everything else being disappointing.
Unprofessional male host. We had reservations & be told us the tables were for reserved guest only and we needed to sit at the bar. The other lady hostess corrected him and made him aware that we indeed did have reservations and deserved a table. Once seated, we waited over 15 min for someone to assist us/take our orders! Food was delicious but everything else was subpar!
