A girlfriend and I had a dinner date at Tatami on Valentine's Day 2014. We walked in and were seated right away however, didn't see a server until 20 minutes later. Then, the server told us that "his other servers didn't want to take any more tables so he could take our order in a few minutes". Okkkkkay? Our food took ages to arrive and our server was seldom seen. The food was very good. However, the service and level of professionalism was deplorable. I will say, it seemed that they didn't expect so many people and weren't prepared for the crowd. Either way, they need a little help on the hospitality end but the sushi was to die for and the spicy udon seafood soup was out of this world!

I recently booked a table for a party of 8 to celebrate a birthday at Tatami. We ordered an asssortment of speciality rolls, vegetable tempura and vegetable gyoza. Everything was delicious and the presentation was lovely. Be careful if you order the rolls that are described as spicy, they are actually very spicy. The service was slow initiallly but improved as the night went on. The dining area is tiny but it's warm and cozy and decorated nicely. I would return.

This is a wonderful sushi restaurant in the burbs. The food is very flavorful and the presentations are especially appealing. Try the calamari appetizer. The dipping sauces beautifully compliment the lightly fried calamari. Yum!

My wife and I dined at Tatami's with another couple on a Friday evening due to OpenTable reviews I read. Nothing pretentious in this small, strip mall location, but what a delightful, friendly restaurant serving excellent Japanese food with gracious service. If you like calamari, the appetizer with two sauces is delicious, as were the salads and soup. My wife and one friend split sushi rolls, her husband a cucumber dish, while I savored the teriyaki salmon, which has an interesting, flavorful side of white rice. Portions are generous and the presentation of the food is very nice. We all plan to dine at Tatami's again soon.

This was my fourth or fifth time at Tatami, and it was great as always. The yellowtail ponzu was great, super fresh. Our group of three got that and five Maki rolls. I always enjoy the crab crunch, and the Fire Dragon lived up to its name. There were no leftovers, that was for sure!

I've been eating at Tatami for almost two years now, and have found that they are consistently good on every front. Service is always polite and attentive without being pushy. The uni shooters are fantastic and I always start my meal with one. Their rolls are really fantastic, balancing elements like spicy, salty, texture and portion. My husband loves their maki. Personally, I always go for sashimi when I eat at Tatami. The fish is always fresh, has fantastic texture and is served at the proper temperature for maximum flavor.
The ambience is very relaxed and sleek. I always recommend Tatami and will continue to eat there.

Small place with attentive service and plenty of selection of sushi, rolls and traditional Japanese fare. It was a little tough to find because of the construction on Waukegan Road, but worth it.

The sushi is good, the waitress tried to hard to push drinks, the chef's are cranky. Not sure why Sushi chef's in general aren't a little more fun and personable. They should be engaging and helpful, but they usually treat you like they are doing you a favor by preparing your food instead of thankful you are dining there.

We really enjoy Tatami and they've added free miso soup to their list of reasons you'll want to eat here. There is some room for improvement, though. First, they did not have brown rice available when we went, which was disappointing. Second, their all-you-can-eat Maki special ends way too early (5:30). Third, we wish they'd open up for lunch again!

We have been there several times. The food is always good. The restaurant is very small so when dining in the evening a reservation is a good idea. This time we came for lunch and it was empty. Food was still amazing and the service was wonderful. I love this small neighborhood find.

Sushi was very good and service was just ok. The main thing is the atmosphere - it's a very pretty place but there is no energy and its so quiet? We went with our kids and even for a kid dinner it was too mellow and quiet? They need music!

Really, really good place. Enjoyed the sushi I had here very much, as well as the dessert. Just a really, really nice place. It's kind of nondescript in appearance, but it's well worth the trip. A quality place to be sure, and nice and quiet, so you can actually hear across the table. Also had a really lovely waitress who served us perfectly. I'll definitely be back.

Hidden in a small mall, this was a most enjoyable find. The services was attentive and helpful, the decoration tasteful and upbeat but with a definite oriental flair. The sushi was wonderful and the recommendations from the staff most helpful. Our waiter definitely knew the menu and listened to our questions. Will definitely return in the future.

I bought the Groupon because I had plans to travel to Japan, but wanted to get a taste of their cuisine before I traveled. I didn't make it in before I left, but I'm certainly glad I used the Groupon. The food was outstanding. We started with the asparagus and beef appetizer which was wonderful. I had the Pork Kat Su and my boyfriend had the King Kong Maki. Both plates were empty by the end of the meal. For dessert we shared the Chocolate Duo Mousse. It was just the right size and smooth, creamy and very light. We would go back and I have already suggested it to someone who works in the area.

The waitress asked how everything was. I told her that my chicken breast was a little dry, altho tasty, and she said she would tell the chef. I never heard anything more from the waitress, the chef, or anyone, and there was no mention of anything more, nor any notation on the bill. But the food is beautifully presented, and everything else was very good.

Service was excellent and went beyond our expectations. We brought our 2 young children and the server gave us a cup of ice cubes along with the Miso soup for our 2-year-old to cool down the soup for him. The server also gave us kid-chopsticks. All this without us asking. This is rare. The food was excellent. We had the sushi and chicken dish. The ambiance is reminicent of a classy restaurant in the Uptown or Andersonville area of Chicago. All this, and you dont even have to worry about parking! I like that. I would recommend and go back.

A quieter, more comfortable version of Kansaku, its sister restaurant in Evanston.

Nigiri was of high quality, hand rolls were creative and tasty, and my wife had one of the best lychee martinis of her life. This is top notch dining in Glenview, and we cannot figure out why it wasn't packed on a Thursday night.

Service was excellent, and between the calm and comfort, we are certain to be back!

We went for a lunch on a Sunday early afternoon - two adults and two teenage kids. Very fresh food, every meal was excellent, reasonable prices. It was quiet, only a couple of tables filled.
The place does not jump out, but one of the few good sushi places around open for lunch on Sunday.

The service was deplorable due to the confusion of the wait staff. The waiter came back to our table 3 times to confirm our order plus one additional time saying the fish that was ordered was bad and we should change our order. When our modified order was brought to the table, the items delivered were not on the original order or the modified order because the waiter did not load the order correctly into the computer system. When the bill came items were included that were included in the cost of the meal (e.g., rice). The waiter said that we should reduce that item cost from the tip instead of her correcting the bill. There is no excuse for such bad service since there was only one other couple in the restaurant.
