Taste Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The ambiance was great, service was ok, the food was highly disappointing! I'm from DC and came to visit and ordered the cajun chicken and shrimp pasta and buffalo wings. The food was disgusting! couldn't eat more than 1 bite. The pasta was over cooked and mushy and tasted like milk. The wings were bitter for some reason too.....DO NOT EAT HERE! returning it now!
I had a wonderful experience here. The food was great! The drinks were excellent! The waiter, Terry, was thee BEST waiter I've ever had! The manager was very accommodating considering my request with reservations. I came for the band and received A WHOLE LOT MORE!!!! Thank you so much. I can't wait to visit again.
The ambiance was great, service was ok, the food was highly disappointing!! The greens were not flavorful and too spicy. The mac n cheese was not good, neither was the dirty rice. The wings as an appetizer saved the meal from being a total lost. I had not been there in a long time because the service was so bad but at least the food was decent; the quality of the food has really decreased and it was expensive and a waste of money!
Steps of service need to be reviewed with bartender. We were never checked on after our entrees were dropped. We had to hail the bartender for a refill on water and cocktails, of which we only got one. Food was bland. When looking at the menu online, I thought it would be more flavorful. The wings and Mac n Cheese were very good. The band that night was good as well. I will try it again just due to the fact that I really want to patron the establishment.
The service was great however, the food (side dishes) were bland and taste store bought... There werent enough menu options to choose from... The BAND,Vibe5, was EXCELLENT... but they could use another singer who sounded very mechanical and unprofessional. She didnt know the lyrics to a few of the songs and read them from sheets of paper.. We would have rather listened to the band WITHOUT their lead singer
Mom 60th birthday party her first vist. The service, food, environment, all was great. The band was good, and energetic. What was a down point in the evening was, being charge an extra $25 on our bill if we ate the birthday cake there. So confused? What the purpose of the extra fee for the cake?
The mother of the owner made my experience an awesome experience. It was my first time there; she walked around several times to make sure I was having a good time. I went because they were going to have a live jazz band. The band listed online was not the band that performed but it turned out ok. I would suggest that they keep their online band list updated. Overall the food was good and I would definitely go back again.
I was looking forward to going to taste. I love to support local businesses. Needless to say, our waitress was rude. We asked to order several times and she just didn't take our order. Additionally, the food took forever, and was over priced and not good. The group I was with also brought our own birthday cake, and they charged us $10 to cut it... And put it on plates. This whole experience was ridiculous and I wouldn't reccomend taste to anyone.
I enjoyed my experience at the Taste. The atmosphere is very nice, and the service was great.
The only negative that I had was that once the band started, I could no longer hear anything that my party guest were saying at my table. We had to literally scream at each other.
My suggestion is to turn the music down, so people can enjoy the music and their party guess.
The service is always great and the food is excellent! It is great to be able to reserve a table and not to have to wait. It's an added bonus when the staff recognizes you and remembers your favorite foods and drinks!
The menu has great selections and the prices are reasonable. I recommend Taste to all my family and friends
The collard green egg rolls are fantastic. The catfish was a bit over-battered but good. My sweet potatoes were very good. The service was perfect. We ordered a malbec and found it to be very, very sweet. We wondered if we got the right wine, but since we didn't say anything, we are to be blamed for not being satisfied. Overall, the evening was quite nice, the food very good, and we will definitely return.
The service was lacking some. The waitress didn't refill the drinks without flagging someone down, we had no silverware the first 5 minutes of our meal. We had to go ask for some. They were out of salmon. The music was overly loud. I couldn't hear my husband talk, and he was sitting right next to me. We had to yell across the table to speak to our guests. The food was good and we all around had a good time. Unsure if I would return. I'm not a fan of very loud music during dinner.
I have visited a several times and it's alway's great. Great atmosphere, full of energy, good live entertainment. This particular night there was a private party and there were several kids & babies there. It was between 8p-9:30 when I was there. They where with there family and seemed to be well behaved. But I chose this particular restaraunt because of the "Night Life" atmosphere, my opinion maybe they should reevaluate after a certain hour no kids. For some reason it was very cold, the air conditioning was turned up that night. The temp outside was in the low 60's. We had to leave because it was so cold. I will not let any of these small complaints of mine keep me away. I will definetely be visitng again soon...thank you!
The lemon pepper wings were great however the mozzarella balls were bland and cost $8 for three little balls. The macaroni and cheese which is normally good had too much bread crumbs. In all I would just recommend for drinks and atmosphere when they have live jazz band.
The restaurant looks beautiful and the food was great! It seems like this would be a wonderful choice if you wanted to share an appetizer with a friend and enjoy some music. We were there pretty early. The restaurant opens at 4pm and not the hours listed on this website. It took ridiculously long to get our outrageously priced meals. The soup was the best I have ever known. I was very disappointed that the performer scheduled to play that night was not there. They had a little dance floor in front of the band area that seems to make for a good night out, if they actually have musicians. All things considered, I really do appreciate seeing an upscale type of restaurant in that part of town. A few changes and I know this place will last.
On our way to Taste(which was more than 1 hour from our home) I received a phone call informing me they did not open until 4:00pm. Our reservation was 2:00 pm. We were more than halt way there. I cannot honestly comment since I was never there. Disappointing.
The band was fantastic!! Our food was great . The service was the only disappointment, I had my drink spilled on me by our waitress while me & my wife were enjoying the music & each other on our 1 yr anniversity. This is where I purposed to my wife at, but this was a disaster.
I am a native Daytonian and, sadly, North Dayton has been on the decline for decades. However, I was pleasantly surprised that there existed a good, "non-chain" restaurant. Taste is an upscale soul-food, southern cuisine experience. I had the Creole Catfish which was well-seasoned, greens, and mac and cheese. The presentation was good and the taste was satisfying. I currently live in the Washington, DC area. So, by comparison, this was not an exceptional experience. But, while in Dayton, I recommend Taste because it is a change from the chain restaurants that have taken over Miller Lane and south of town.
Heard mixed reviews about food and service. Our experience Friday 2/28/14 was memorable! We had a great time. The food was unique and very good. The service was excellent!! There was a band from Cincinatti (NP) playing that was very good. Music was a little louder than vocals but it could of been our placement/seating (we sat behind stage area). The menu prices were (beverages, appetizers, entrees) were very reasonable for the quality of the goods. It was a warm, friendly community environment. There isn't anything like the Taste experience in this community and we welcome it here. We look forward to our next experience and the many more to come!!!
This is a restaurant in Dayton?! That was my first reaction. What a beautiful place, first of all, with nice little hideaways for a romantic night. They had a jazz trio the night we were there and that was the cherry on top of great service by all (our waitress as well as the bartender and others who brought our drinks directly to our table). And the food. So mouth watering. Nice sized portions, so flavorful and original. We couldn't get enough. We had drinks, appetizers, soup, main course, coffee and dessert -- all for less than what we'd have paid at a chain restaurant. A dining experience to remember. We'll return (often!).
My wife and I hosted a friend and his wife over the holiday break. It was 2pm on a Saturday afternoon. Clean, sharp, and impressive on the inside. We were the only patrons in the restaurant at that time.
Waiter was very professional. It was impressive how he took all of our orders without writing any of it down - but we changed our minds about that when he had to come back and confirm portions of our order.
The food came out in a reasonable amount of time; although, my friend that traveled from California and came to the Taste on my recommendation, got his food 10 minutes after us - and didn't like it. My macaroni and cheese was very hard like it was microwaved in the bowl. All waiter offered was more mac & cheese. He seemed indifferent.
I was in the area for the weekend and found Taste on the internet and decided to give it a try. The food was great especially the collard green rolls. Drinks were good not watered down. The ambience is causual/upscale jazz club. The musicians were great singing all of my favorite R&B slow groves from the Isley Brothers- Jill Scott. We had a great time. My only issue was they did not have mashed potatoes which I think to run out of mashed potatoes an hour into the dinner hours is odd. They made a substitution of sweet potatoes without asking me but it worked out. They could do with a quick lesson in customer service but they were all pleasent and I would reccommend this restaurant.
Our first visit to Taste in late August amazing ..this time NOT. We were seated at a table about 6 feet from the band who had several amplifiers, drums, base and sax and spent the entire evening screaming at each other trying to have a conversation. The service was absolutely abominable. We waited almost 30 minutes for the appetizers. We had to ask three times for silverware and plates even though our appetizers had been served and sitting in front of us. All four of us had a different entree and all four were just plain bad -- greasy, burnt, cold. The ONLY bright spot was Aaron, who was NOT even our server, jumped in and got us silverware, water, & drinks and straightened out a true mess with one of our meals. We won't be back...
