Tartufo is one of our favorite places.
Pleasant, vibrant dining room(especially downstairs)-although we've enjoyed upstairs with a larger group.
Fantastic wine and great service.
We love our server Alfio and always enjoy his wine selections.
Excellent food and presentation. Many good choices. We were able to get a reservation for Friday on a Tuesday, but it was busy the entire time we were there.
We have eaten here several times before, but this time was a disaster. The older waiter failed to put in our order. After sitting for more than one hour they finally figured out the problem and we received our meals. They had been rushed and were completely devoid of flavor and salt. When we received the bill there was no compensation at all for the mistake. Likewise it was very difficult to find anyone willing to come over and allow us to ask. When the waiter took our credit cards we once again had to find someone to flag him down and actually get him to give them back. A complete debacle. Never again.
We were seated prompt to reservation time. Service was quick and food excellent. Noise level is high from open table and packed house! Good experience
Had the scallops risotto which was very good. My wife, the gnocchi and wasn’t overly impressed. Tables were very tight to one another which wasn’t ideal. Overall, the restaurant was nice though. Food was reasonable for the cost. Would recommend the risotto any day.
Loved the appetizer but less satisfied with main course - (scallops with risotto, shrimp and asparagus. It was not substantive - though plenty scallops and shrimp found only 1 small piece of asparagus in dish). In my friend's lobster ravioli dish the pasta was rubbery vs. delicate in texture and only warm vs. hot when served. The limoncello cake dessert was delicious and recommend it. Nice ambiance but can be loud with several large parties on second level. Insufficient tables for two on second level and more suitable for larger groups. Our waiter was superb and very attentive and appeared to loved working at the restaurant. Lots of items on the menu that looked worthy of trying a second time around. A good neighborhood find.
All around awful! I truly think the waiter forgot he was serving our table. It was a slow Thursday night and we waited for everything, a LONG time. The food was very overpriced for the quality. At one point, I tried to get the Hostess's attention, as the service was so lacking, but she too was too busy looking at something online to notice. The waiter seemed to remember us as soon as the card was out to pay, it was the only time he took notice. I would never return again.
A friend and regularly eat at Tartufo and last week enjoyed our dinners of Veal Marsala.
The majority of the menu is Seafood, could be a negative for some.
We had a wonderful time at Tartufo. We were a group of 10, and the service was impeccable. ehe food was amazing. A great mixture of traditional Italian food with a contemporary feel. Strongly recommend.
Wonderful friendly place with very good Italian food. The only concern that we had was that our table was near the front door and we kept getting a cold draft whenever the door was opened. It was a cold Friday night.
Excellent experience food wise, ambiance, service. Waite staff attentive to needs and questions
Our favorite just fell way down the list. Way too crowded in the dining room. Can’t hear a thing. Service terrible. They need to stop thinking about making the last dollar and get back to what made it a great restaurant. Totally embarrassed that we took our good friends there.
Was disappointed with portion for main course, very small. Flavors were lacking in some of the courses, lobster risotto, not creamy. Nothing special about any of what I tried in a party of 7.
The worst restaurant experience I've had in years ...
I went with two dining companions, one of whose meals - the Halibut - was an overcooked, rubbery mess. My ravioli dinner would have been acceptable, at Chez Chef Boyardee (maybe). The Bruschetta I had for an appetizer was flavorless tomatoes on bread ... not the kind of Bruschetta I'm used to having anywhere.
To add insult to injury, the service was amateurish, with the waiter taking an eternity to deliver drinks, not once asking us how the food was (until the end of the meal) and - in general - giving the distinct impression that he would rather have been doing anything else than waiting on us.
The bill was astronomical considering the quality (I have no problem paying for quality food, but this was an insult). I will never again darken Tartufo Cucina Abruzzese's door, and I would strongly suggest you do the same.
We had a family dinner with the kids. We all loved the food and the service. My wife and daughter had fish, I had the lamb chop special and my son had the pasta and meatballs. Their pasta sauce is fantastic. It has a good variety of red and white wines to pair to their Italian menu. Really good experience overall.
Lovely table for two near the window. The service and meal were excellent.
Excellent! Can't wait to go back. I've driven past here hundreds of times, but this was my first time.
We had an excellent meal. The appetizers were quite enjoyable. I opted for an entre as an appetizer and a second entre for my meal. Definitely more food than I needed, but there were so many good choice that I wanted to taste more than one. The desserts were well liked by the table. We had a party of 7 when the restaurant was full, and the service was surprisingly fast.
Always reliable service and delicious food. Sometimes a tad noisy depending on the other diners but we try to go at quieter times.
The surprising thing about Tartufo is that the good cooking was diminished by the mediocre quality of the fish (salmon) and Calamari. The Salmon itself - not the excellent cooking - was the issue. The waiter was outstanding.
Tartufo was fantastic. This was a birthday celebration for my daughter. I have been to Italian restaurants in the North End of Boston, Metro West, and South Shore . The food at Tartufo in Newton Center was authentic and better than most other Italian restaurants I have dined in. I had the Frutti Di Mare and it was exquisite. The owner is from Abruzzo and he does it right.
They were able to sit us right in time . I also called the restaurant prior to make some arrangements for my special occasion and they were extremely excited and happy to help . When we came in the server was already aware and ready for us to give the sign . He made sure we had everything we needed for our entire time . The food is excellent! We absolutely were impressed by the memoir but especially by the quality of the food !!!! Definitely worth the drive !
this is a favorite, food is great, staff is very friendly, we love coming here
Food was very good but the service was terrible: rushed to take the order; server tried to take appetizer away while still eating; after the entrée was served, major rush job to turn over table, at $50+/head, not appreciated.
Solid Italian Restaurant in the burbs. This was our 3rd time at the restaurant and our last 2 times were more interesting. Maybe because we were there at at very busy time. My Lobster Arrabiata was excellent. A little spicy and the lobster was very tender. My husbands seafood combo over linguini was also very tasty. Bread was nice and crisp. My appetizer with scallops over a creamy corn base was delectable even though I had ordered the shrimp appetizer. Waiter mistake. Did not complain because my appetizer looked tempting. We were seated upstairs which was fine. However, downstairs is better and we always enjoyed sitting in the bar area. Not available this time. Clientle was typical of what you would see in this type of expensive suburban restaurant. Staff is professional and friendly.
Tartufo never disappoints! The service and food are both excellent -- always
Great dining experience with my family. My wife and I Brought our 2 yr old out for a Friday night meal and a table with a high chair was already set up for when we arrived. Appetizers were delicious and our main course meals were flavorful and well prepared. Friendly staff from the valet, hostess and our waiter made for a great dining experience. Will definitely dine here again.
A lovely dinner and a lovely evening. We felt very comfortable and very welcomed: indeed, we stayed until the restaurant was closing, but, at no point, was there any sense of being rushed out, etc.
A delightful evening, as it was the week before, as well.
This is a strongly reliable restaurant with a pleasing staff and good chef. The menu is varied and - while not terribly creative - it is familiar and the food is dependable. For a local restaurant, the dishes are still a bit pricey.
Perfect place for an extended business dinner. Good food, unobtrusive service, not too loud on a weeknight.
Tartufo is a great authentic Italian restaurant. The service is spectacular.
This was a great find. Brought my aunt who is 90 and in a wheelchair. Everyone was more than helpful as there is 2 steps in the door. The service was amazing, food as well. My only complaint is the restroom, was not wide enough to allow the wheelchair. Great wine list as well!
The Caesar Salad is the best I have had anywhere. Fresh, crisp, with lovely shavings of parmesan. The Eggplant Rolletini is excellent. Though listed as an appetizer, it made a great entree for me. Service was a little slow, but OK for a leisurely friends' get-together.
Went in a group of five. Service and food were terrific, and price was reasonable for the menu and area (Newton Centre). Good choice for special occasions.
Service was fast and everyone was very nice the food was delicious and drinks were perfect
Always great, we go often and are always happy ... great people, great food and always consistent!
We had a wonderful dinner! It’s one of our favorite restaurants.
Food Nd service were just fine. But the experience was marred because the restaurant was unpleasantly crowded and NOISY. We couldn’t hold a conversation without raised voices and contributing to the clamor. We would definitely go back, but never on a Saturday
First time to this neighborhood restaurant on Valentine's Day and found the place to be very inviting in spite the crowded atmosphere. Parking was a bit of a challenge but there were enough side streets to find a spot. Valet was available but was very busy when we arrived so just parked nearby. Very attentive to us when we entered, although we had to wait about 20 mins past our reservation time (not unexpected on this day). They were kind enough to get a chair for my elderly mom to sit while we waited. Our meals were very good. Fresh salad, hot rolls, filet mignon cooked exactly as requested with barely any fat, seafood dish with scallops and shrimp on risotto and an acceptable substitution in the dish even with their busy night. Dessert recommended by our waiter was a great choice also. The only issues we had were that only some of the dishes were removed between meals and not all. I had to actually put our roll basket on the floor until someone finally came by for it. Needed the space as tables for two are restricted for real estate. Other tables were having theirs' removed so maybe just a miss on that very busy night. And we also had to keep asking for water glass refills. They were not automatically filled when empty. The meal was a bit pricey for the level of service but the food was well worth it. Would like to return on a non-special occasion and enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere. The front desk hostess was very pleasant and engaging. Overall a really nice place to go.
Food was great, people are so friendly, love dining here
