Tartufo Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Very authentic Italian restaurant. Greeted warmly upon entering and always seated promptly. Even was able to speak (broken) Italian to our waiter, who was appreciative of my attempt (lived in Italy 25 yrs ago). We had a good laugh...Serving staff are always very busy with their tables, so you need to keep on them to fill your water, take your order, etc. But the food delights. Listen to the specials, as they are always fantastic. Grilled seafood was excellent. Bollanese will not disappoint if you're looking for a good dish that will fill you up. Appetizers are big - you could split them if you want (try the Calamari). And we love the windows that allow you to look out to the street. You're not in Sorento, but it's still pretty special.
We have been going here for years and find it to be dependable and enjoyable. We enjoyed a variety of dishes, all of which were very good. It's a little on the old school side but very well done (not a red sauce joint). The atmosphere here is nice, though it can get a bit loud. The service was friendly but not as professional as the quality of the food.
We came here to celebrate our anniversary, based on the outstanding OpenTable reviews. We had a very nice meal, starting with meatballs and bruschetta, followed by orichiette and lemon sole. The food was good, and portion sizes were appropriate (not too big, not too small). We did struggle with ordering as there were so many options to choose from that sounded interesting! Service was attentive as well. The food was priced a little higher than I would have expected for the quality (good but not great).
This was a return visit. We come once per yea during our vacation from Connecticut to the Boston area. My family and I are always warmly greeted. We ordered different meals and everyone enjoyed their entrée--- fish, chicken and pasta. The food is excellent. Although the place is very busy, we never feel rushed.
The food was definitely good, but the experience was not as nice as we've had in the past. We were placed upstairs which isn't as nice as the main dining room downstairs. There is a large television the wall that was on. The TV was distracting and detracted from the ambiance. When we asked that it be turned off, the waiter Bob ("Roberto" as he calls himself) said that people were watching it. It wasn't worth arguing with him, but no one was watching it, since the other 2 tables up there were large birthday parties and and definitely not watching TV.
Tartufo is a favorite "go to" restaurant for us. Dante and his staff provide magnificent cuisine along with European-style service. I ordered the Lamb Ragu, which was a special for the evening, and it was outstanding. Antonio, our favorite water, was in Italy. But we were very well served by the staff.
The food was excellent but the whole experience had to be downgraded because the service was exceedingly slow and the noise level almost unbearable. And this was on a weekday night! We were there at 7:00 and it only quieted down about 2 hours later. Wait staff were very busy changing linens and setting up the whole time. It was very crowded, so the food must be drawing people in.
Nothing special going on here. Except for the very good bread, the food was ok but not impressive and doesn't justify the price-level. Service was competent but not polished. There are better Italian (and other) restaurants in the area at comparable or lower price-points. Disappointed since friends recommended it.
The bottle of wine and one entree were served as incorrect table choices. The waitperson appeared to be preoccupied with other than listening to our menu requests.
This reataurant is one of the noisiests in Boston, and unnecessarily so. It contains no sound absorbing surfaces, only hard , exposed floors, and bare walls and windows.
Having just returned from Italy, the menu at Tartufo seemed very authentic. It lived up to my expectations. The service was excellent, the food was fresh, well prepared and presented, and very reminiscent of Italy. The wine selection by the glass was great - we found several small vineyards we had tasted while on our trip. In fact, when my wife selected a white wine we had enjoyed on the Amalfi Coast the owner of the restaurant asked us if we were from Naples as this is a little-known but wonderful wine. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant - it was our first time there and we will definitely be back.
Saturday was my first visit and will not be my last. The food was authentic Italian, at least the kind I like. The pasta with rapini was outstanding as was the veal scalopini. Both were seasoned beautifully with real depth of flavor. And neither were overwhelming with garlic as some restaurants are inclined to do. Only disappointment was the grilled octopus. While perfectly cooked it was underseasoned. Overall, dinner was delicious.
Our previous experience dining here was wonderful, this time, the place was relatively empty yet the gentleman taking our order (which essentially consisted of 3 salads with either chicken or shrimp) could not get the orders straight, they came out incorrectly, just a bad day I guess .... I'd be nervous to think how things would have gone if the restaurant was actually busy
Wow what a find in Newton Centre! Two of my long time friends, who work in the area, had never been and when I saw solid reviews on OT I decided to book. So glad I did, from the great vibe when you walk in to the incredible food (all 3 of us got the seafood pasta special in vodka sauce and I wanted to lick the plate), great wine list, and super service. I'm sure the locals know this first hand, but what a treat for 3 guys from outside the area. However, as Arnold would say "we'll be back"
