Never disappoints. Thank you!!❤️❤️❤️
The noise was unbearable. We could not enjoy the food, hear the waiter, or talk with our friends. I had a splitting headache throughout the meal and for hours later.
We have eaten at Tartufo many times. This past week we brought 2 guests. The appetizers came right away but the main courses were not coming for a long time. The waiter acknowledged the lateness and promised the food would be coming soon. When it still hadn't come, my husband left the table to privately complain about the length of time. The hostess directed him to the owner/executive chef. My husband said we had been waiting for 45 minutes for our main courses. This was an exaggeration, as it turned out. But instead of apologizing as anyone would do, this man came to or table to shout at us in front of our guests! He showed us kitchen receipts indicating the actual time from the placement of the order. When our main courses finally came, he returned to our table to AGAIN tell us how he received the order for the appetizer at 7:15, and then the order for the mains at this exact time... My husband had left our table specifically to avoid complaining in front of our guests. Having this inappropriate outburst from the owner in front of our guests and the rest of the restaurant was humiliating and shocking. I asked him to please leave us in peace to eat our food and he didn't want to leave! He said he needed us to understand how he operates the kitchen. Honestly, he seemed like someone who was not taking needed medication. He may be a wonderful chef - the food was very good - but he should never be allowed to speak with customers. My husband was not abusive to anyone when he complained about the long wait. I don't know how I could trust bringing any guests to this restaurant again.
Food was excellent. Dinner at 5. Not crowded.
Would definitely go again.
After having a wonderful lunch a couple of weeks ago, I thought Tartufo would be great for a dinner with friends. It was even better than I thought it would be, with excellent service and food. Everyone commented on the overall quality and I desire to go back soon to discover more of the menu items. The service was just right..taking care of us when we needed it, but not interrupting our conversation. I thought the balance was perfect. Go and experience some fabulous Italian food in a comfortable setting.
This Is always a reliable place to go...this week I was there twice!
Each time it was delicious, hot and beautifully served.
The food is very good, but t our portions were very small.
The food at Tartufo's is always high quality. Their pastas, in particular, are great and I really like the seafood and pasta (del Mar) dish. We went on an exceptionally busy night, and the service was not as strong as it sometimes is. We also got put at the table by the front door. Despite having a curtain that the hostess diligently kept in place, we kept getting a draft. So our last event was not as positive as it could have been and certainly not as good as we have had in the past. So I would consider this a 'blip.'
The presentation and quality of the ingredients/cooking was excellent. The North End has nothing on Tartufo. Our waiter was respectful of the slower pace we wanted with receiving our food during this Mother's Day luncheon, and he was great in checking on our needs. Overall enjoyed out dining experience there a lot.
Attentive service , tasty food, good list of wines by the glass. My one observation is that the menu feels a bit pricey relative to what shows up on the plate. Nevertheless, I'd recommend this restaurant.
Wonderful meal and service!! I look forward to going back again soon!
We've been dining at Tartufo for a few years and we have always had a wonderful meal - its our go to restaurant for special occasions. We are never disappointed. We celebrated my birthday at Tartufo on May 1st and they surprised me with a special Tiramisu dessert - such a nice touch. Looking forward to our next meal at Tartufo!
Delicious dinner and intimate.
Visiting family enjoyed the experience and appreciated gluten free options.
It had been a long time since we had dined at Tartufo, but friends we were meeting suggested it as a good place to meet for dinner on a Monday evening, when many restaurants are closed. The food at Tartufo is indeed very good: my husband and I split a seafood pasta special, and a chicken porcini marsala entree, as well as a mixed green salad to start. We shared a nice bottle of the house red wine (a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo) with our tablemates. The restaurant is comfortable and reasonably quiet (although it did get quite busy and louder as the hour grew later!), allowing mature adults to converse and actually hear each other. Service was, shall we say, European. Our waiter was a bit brusque -- if I hadn't spent a good amount of time in Italy I might have found him condescending. I had to ask twice if there were any specials (there were), and staff -- as in most restaurants these days -- was over-eager in clearing, removing other diners' plates while one diner at our table was still "enjoying," as they say, her meal, and attempting twice to take to take hers while she was still enjoying it! I do wish serving staff would be trained to wait until everyone at the table has finished their meal before starting to clear. It makes that lone diner feel so conspicuous.
It was a busy night in a crowded space and two of the four of us were frequently bumped by waiters and patrons throughout the evening. However, the food will have us come back at some point, it was excellent. But why is it so hard to find wait staff who at least make some small effort to be friendly, to smile a little, and to recognize that, for a lot of us, spending $450 for a meal is a special evening?
All of our entrees were delicious, except the crab cakes, which were not that tasty. Service was excellent. Our pasta dishes were delicious and reasonable.
The food and drinks were fine, nothing to write home about, but the noise level was awful. I had been here many years ago, maybe 8 or so, with my elderly parents and 2 of their friends. I returned Sunday night with the only remaining member of that group, 97 years old, and we both immediately remembered how terrible the noise level had been. I don’t think I will return!
Everything was fine. But I was expecting to be blown away. Service was fine, but not exceptional.
Our party of four had four different entrees and each felt they had chosen the best meal. (I had the scallops, and they were magnificent.) That tells you how good the food was. The wine list is excellent and not over-priced. Dante, owner/chef, sets a wonderful tone. The servers all provide the kind of professional service one finds in European restaurants - gracious, helpful, unobtrusive.
This is my go to place! I absolutely adore the food. I am there almost once a week. I feel just like I’m in Italy. The ingredients are so fresh and the meat and fish is wonderfully sourced. Tartufo is amazing
What a lovely surprise. We are from out of town and we’re just looking for a nice to eat. It was fantastic and I am still dreaming about that minestrone soup!!
Tartufo never disappoints! We had dinner with a friend from out of town. He LOVED it. Everything, from the warm crispy bread to the caesar salad to the meatballs to our entrees was absolutely outstanding! I had veal marsala with linguini, my husband had the branzino with roasted veggies and our friend had the papardelle with scallops. They were all amazing, prepared beautifully and served piping hot. Antonio was our waiter and we enjoyed his company very much. He took such great care of us! I highly recommend this warm sweet wonderful place! We go back again and again and again. It's that good!!
Always love the experience
The food and service is always excellent. Reservations are always honored and the greeting most welcoming. It is one of my favorite restaurants. And my friend who recently joined me, experiencing
Tartufo for the first time, said that he thought it was excellent.
Our waiter was very nice and made us feel comfortable. I would have liked the noise level to be a bit lower so that our communication width each other would have been easier. I would not, however, preclude that from returning.
Wonderful restaurant with great italian food. Great service too.
We were disappointed by how noisy the restaurant was. Also disappointed that they told us the special was served with orichette and instead was served with gnocchi. My wife would not have ordered this dish if we had been told the correct pasta. Also service was slow.
We were put upstairs even though it was clear that my wife, who walks with a cane, would have trouble negotiating. The service was spotty at best, more on that later. We ordered appetizers and the salads came out at the exact same time. When I asked that the salads be returned until the apps were completed I was met with a astonished face as if this was the first time a waiter and busboy had heard that request. I was told, "but the salads are ready now". So we all had salads in front of us and we had to balance side apps plates on the side. Dinner was just OK. The sauce in the Fruite de mari was just OK, the shrimp were very small. The chicken Marsala was good. The carbonara was not. Tasted very sharp. We were then asked, after 20 minutes of waiting, if we wanted dessert and coffee to which we responded yes and the waiter said he'd be back with the dessert menu (why didn't he bring them when he came) but he took our coffee order. The menus never arrived. My wife finally asked for the menu after 1/2 hour. The desserts came almost 45 minutes after dinner. We got the check and there was a "service charge" of approximately the same rate as a tip and we only had five people. I crossed that out and asked for a receipt without the "service charge". The only other thing was that the second floor was EXTREMELY noisy. I almost couldn't hear the conversation at our table. Not great.
Really enjoy this restaurant. We have sat upstairs the last couple of times we have been there and although the waiter has been great, we've had to ask the busboys/men to refill our water, bring silverware, etc., which takes away from the overall experience. This last visit we ordered a Peach and Apple Cobbler that sounded really good but ended up sending it back because it was more like a bad slice of fruit cake with a mushy fruit mixture inside. Not like a cobbler at all. We got the Tiramisu instead, which was outstanding!
We were visiting Boston for the weekend and discovered Tartufo on open table. The food was fair to ok. The sauce lacked flavor on the fruita del mare seafood dish as well as on the mussels appetizer. The shrimp appetizer was good but for $16 they gave four shrimp. The portion sizes were quite small so that was also a disappointment. We ordered cannolis for dessert and they were delicious. However the two were mini and could be eaten in two bites.
The most positive aspect of the dinner was the attention to detail of the space's designer. At last - noise abating wall treatments! We went early on a Friday night and the place filled up quickly. Amazingly, even at close to capacity, we could still converse in normal tones. Good food, attentive service, broad menu. We will be back.
Great restaurant! What a wonderful find, since we both were visiting on business. Wonderful service, delicious food and small, well appointed and comfortable place.
We celebrate my son's bday!
Delicious food, wonderful service. One of the best places to eat in the Boston area.
Our general experience in this restaurant is overall always excellent. Yesterday, we had some small details that didn’t make us happy. We got a bread that was full burned, it was black and also we ordered wine and they took the cups to the back and filled them up out back. Usually that is done on the tables.
The two pasta dishes we had were delicious. I chose a wine that I had never heard of, which turned out to be a version of sangiovese. Merolino, I think it was called. Outstanding. The bread was warm and the olive oil that we ate it with was first class. The waiter was also very nice.
Tartufo is one of our favorite restaurants. My husband and I love the food. The owners and staff are so friendly and attentive. It is a very comfortable atmosphere.
