Tarpon Bay at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa Ratings and Reviews
Overall was satisfied with the food here they have really fresh seafood the only concern is when they have large groups there the kitchen can get a little backed up and then everyone in the restaurant waits for their food so it's a little hit and miss depending on what's going on one night our food was there quickly and the following night we waited an hour for a main course sit outside for the view it could be noisy inside
Our first visit was on Thursday. Peggy was our server and she was exceptional.Food was outstanding. We loved it so much that we returned on Friday with guests. Food was good. Service was very poor and we waited long time for everything!! very disappointing!!
Beautiful setting but service was sketchy. We were seated and promptly received a bread basket. Then we waited 15-20 minutes for a waiter, only to have to ask the hostess to fetch one. Our waitress apologized with an awkward explanation and we ordered. Then we waited another 20 mins for our food, with the waitress constantly assuring us the food was coming.
My entree was good but my wife’s ala carte twice baked potato wasn’t. My entree was good.
Later, the manager stopped by to apologize and took my drink off our bill.
Maybe it was just a rough night, but the service -especially for a Hyatt resort property- was not acceptable. Something is a bit amiss here.
We’ll try again, because it’s such a pretty place and we want it to be good.
Tarpon Bay has a wonderful Florida casual ambiance while still being recognized for upscale gourmet food. Our experience was excellent, in spite of the fact that we dined on one of the busiest restaurant nights of the year. Food presentation and taste were awesome and the setting was very romantic. Definitely a must for your next special occasion!!
We had reservations for 7:15 and when we arrived, we were told that they were clearing a table and that we would be seated in”5-10 minutes “. That was a lie, we were not seated until 7:45. It does not take a half hour to clear a table. We did not have a waiter approach us until 8:05, 20 minutes later. He apologized and promised that he would serve the wine we ordered “right away “. Well, we were finished our appetizers when the wine was finally delivered. He did not ask our selection of sauces, and told us that there was no choice, even though the menu said otherwise. I could b
Go on and on, but you get the idea.
It was a terrible way to spend Valentine’s day. Needless to say we will never return.
All of the food in our $300.00 meal was cold. It was not meant to be cold. The waitress was pleasant and initially prompt, but each drink-order wait was a minimum of 10-15 minutes. The food order—multiple courses—was 20+ minutes in wait time. The decor was pleasant, but the noise was intolerable. Sound diffusing palets would add color and a quieter environment. For an expensive Hyatt-based restaurant this is not acceptable. We shall not return.
8 of us wanted to go to some place for dinner that was high end and a pleasant seating , and your place was picked and was what we wanted. The service was great for dinner , but not so good at the bar where we stopped first for a drink. The server may have been new or a junior but she need help or more training. Over all it was a great evening and all were pleased
Saturday night, our reserved outside table at 7:15 was not ready when we arrived. They suggested going to the bar and wait. We waited at the bar although there were no seats available. At 7:45, I went to the maître d and I was advised that our table had been given to another party and would we like to sit inside. It would have been nice if they had offered a complimentary glass of wine or beer. What we did get was an admission that it was their fault.
We had been there midweek previously and had a much better experience
It was Super Bowl Sunday and the place was rather empty. The Paella Di Mare included two huge scallops that were slightly undercooked. The waiter offered to replace them but as he asked towards the end of the meal I was just about finished. The Grilled Black Grouper was perfect.
Overall our dinner was superb! BUT.... our service lacked efficiency and communication. We had a longer than normal wait for our initial cocktail service and even longer for an appetizer to be even offered. Chef was personable and management was accommodating.
We went on a quiet Sunday night. Very nice room, comfortable, dimly lit, not at all stuffy or pretentious. Service started out a bit slow, but was perfect from then on in. The waitress was attentive, had great recommendations, took very good care of us. Food was very good, chef came out to check on us. Lobster Bisque was excellent. Get the Divers Spear entree, a whole Red Snapper, deep fried....it was great. We had a very nice night.
Tried Tarpon Bay for brunch on Sunday. It was pretty underwhelming. For 50.00 per person, you get unlimited Mimosas, which were fine. For an extra charge, you could order from the Bloody Mary bar with several different garnish options. The food on the buffet was just fair. There was seafood, salad, pastries, meats and cheese, crab salad. You get the choice of an entree. I ordered the foie gras and eggs. The foie gras and eggs were cold by the time they arrived to the table. Also tried the shrimp and grits, which were not very good. The texture of the grits was like oatmeal, not smooth and creamy. We won't be going back there.
What a disappointment. Everything was "average." It wasn't bad. It wasn't great. They got my order wrong (but took it back and delivered the correct dish within 10 minutes). If I'm going to spend $200 for dinner (2 glasses of wine, no dessert - 2 people), I expect it to be excellent. It wasn't.
I certainly agree with the review that described the quality of the wait staff as something you would find in a diner. I don't know how this feature could be so overlooked. In the middle of taking our order our server stopped, excused herself and went to wait on a couple other tables. When asked for help with a selection recommendation between two seafood entrees, she began describing the texture of the fish. This is just the beginning of what was wrong with this staff member. We had a drink in the bar prior to dining and the staff was loudly chattering and heaving ice into bins behind the bar making startling noise with no regard for our comfort. Absolutely no supervision and absolutely little or no training. The appearance of most of the wait staff was very non professional.
The food was pretty good but expensive. Nice ambiance. Too bad. It just doesn't make sense that such a would class hotel would have such a classless fine dining venue.
Tarpon Bay has excellent fresh fish but the rest on the food is lacking. The lobsters bisque was presented luke warm. The crab legs came the same way. The only decent side was the twice baked potato and it was served the second night as simply a baked potato with cheese melted on top.
It is a nice setting but as with many hotel run restaurants the food is overpriced and poorly prepared. They know they have a captive audience and get lazy.
The wait staff and bartenders were very nice but the time from kitchen to table left most things cold.
There are many other choices in the area.
Wonderful dining experience from start to finish! Going away dinner for dear friends, and one we will not forget!
Our waiter even comped a beautiful dessert to share with a lovely message on the plate written in chocolate.
Definitely one of our favorite dining experiences in SWF. No need to get tangled up in 5th Ave traffic and pretentiousness when this gem is in our backyard.
Our dinner at Tarpon Bay was great! The atmosphere and the food are wonderful. We go to this restaurant every few months, and are never disappointed. They have the most exquisite Lobster Newburg there, with a 3 pound lobster. No one flavor overpowers another, but blends perfectly to give the diner a smooth, velvety tasted in every bite. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes “Old Florida” decor and wonderful food.
Ceviche was nice. Too heavy on soya on tuna not enough acid/ginger.
Pasta in lobster Mac n cheese was over cooked.
Main fish were cooked beautifully and accompanying sauces were great.
Steak was not heated through....like pre-Grilled and slapped on last minute.
Fantastic gesture with piped chocolate on dessert plate.
Cocktails and wine were great as well.
An annual visit that will continue.
