Tarantino's Ratings and Reviews
We had a really wonderful time last night celebrating my parents Anniversary and ours upcoming. Our waitress (Brooke I believe?) was lovely and incredibly fun to interact with. All of the recommendations she provided were taken and as a treat, we did not skip out on the dessert. :)
Meal recs: Beet salad, pork chop (very good), fusilli, and the bread pudding. Wine selections are also great...so just get the bottle!
Overall was very excited about this place, but ended up a bit disappointed by the experience. The meal started well, we had some Pasta and Salad to share as a table of 6 of us. This came fairly quick after ordering. Then there was about a 45 minute delay from that course until the entrees came. This would have been fine if the food was great, fresh, and hot. That said, the food came out and was not hot for 5/6 of the table. It was almost as though they forgot to put something in and had it sitting on a head lamp. The plate was hot, but food was lukewarm and the skin on my Wife's fish as intended was not crispy, etc. Overall was disappointed and unfortunately will not make it back. I see other folks have had great experiences, so hope this was just a one off.
First time diners. Great ambiance. Seated immediately. Excellent service. Large old-school Italian-American portions. Pastas were great. Caesar salad only fair. Sent back fried calamari because it was very chewy/ rubbery. Replaced with muscles which were terrific. Nice wine list. Would definitely return.
We had a great dinner, thanks to our server Julie. When faced with deciding between too many appealing pasta options, she advised that we could get 1/2 orders of each, so we ended up with a little "tasting menu" of our own! Along with a well-recommended bottle of red zinfandel, it was a wonderful meal.
We had not been to Tarrantino's for several years but was always a favorite when visiting our daughter when she lived in Chicago and it did not disappoint! The food, the cocktails, the service was the best! The lobster ravioli was amazing as were the crab cakes! We were so happy we chose to dine there on our recent visit to Chicago.
My wife and I visited there on a cold Chicago Saturday evening. We were greeted promptly and shown to our table. The wait staff was diligent, but not intrusive.
My wife had the Caesar salad and risotto special, which she enjoyed. I had the fried calamari appetizer and the osso bouco, both were great. My only fault was the mashed potatoes were a little thin, but that was only a minor point.
Overall a very good place for a nice dinner.
A great Lincoln Park neighborhood restaurant, perfect for all year round dining but summer is best with the sidewalk dining option. Wine selection is good and menu selections are varied so there’s something for everyone I’m sure.
Service is always great and food is always delicious. My favorites are the Farfalle pasta with spinach and smoked chicken, the cowboy steak and the rack of lamb...Delicious!
my experience was very rushed!! We sat down to have a nice meal, ordered drinks and a appetizer. In 3 minutes all was out. I told the waitress that we were not in a rush and to slow down. She said no problem.(the restaurant was 3/4 full with nobody waiting). She then asked if we would like to order the main course. I responded that we would but please spread it out over time. I emphasized we were not in a rush. the 2nd course to split a pasta dish was out in 5 minutes. We still hadn't finished our 2 appetizers. then the main course came about 5 minutes later. the meal was ruined by then. We didn't even order a 2nd drink. the food was ok but crammed so fast. Also, the oso buco was a very small serving(but tasty). We were out in 50 minutes!! The waitress said that everyone was leaving to see the Mayweather Fight. We were leaving because they rushed us out. VERY DISAPPOINTING!
Our 2nd visit to the restaurant. And, after a pleasant and satisfying 1st visit, the quality of the 2nd visit paled in comparison. As with the 1st visit, we ordered corn meal crusted oysters. This time the oysters were tiny and were literally remnants of oysters overwhelmed with deep fried corn meal crust. One of our entrees was chicken parmigiana. The chicken's seasoning was not detectable and the chicken was dry. Upon letting the waitress know that the chicken was dry, the response we received was an apology and nothing more was done in response to our complaint.
We have decided not to visit the restaurant again.
This was our second time at Tarantino's and both times have been great. We have sat outside both times and we love the nice patio and neighborhood feel that you get. The beet carpaccio is great as well as the salmon. The service is top notch - the manager/owner stopped by to check on us - nice touch. It was half price bottles of wine night which made it even better!
We will definitely return!
Made the mistake of requesting an outdoor table on a nice evening. Sat near 2 loud groups, got a glass of red wine spilled on the back of my shirt by a woman at one of those tables. Service was really slow--finally had to ask the hostess if we had a waitress. Very different experience every other time we've gone here. We live a few blocks away and enjoy walking to a great spot. We'll consider this an off night and hope for a better experience next time.
The offerings are your standard fare of Italian inspired platings. The black linguine was good and very rich in flavor, but heavy handed on the salt. The peach and prosciutto appetizer was very good. This is definitely a neighborhood hangout with the locals.
Eat here often
Love the fresh baked bread
Menu specials always good
Portion nicely sized
Great ambience in a nice Lincol Park neighborhood
Not a busy night and the food service was a little slow this time
They need to chill their red wines. Always too warm and have to ask for the chiller used for white wines
