Tarantino's Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I visited there on a cold Chicago Saturday evening. We were greeted promptly and shown to our table. The wait staff was diligent, but not intrusive.
My wife had the Caesar salad and risotto special, which she enjoyed. I had the fried calamari appetizer and the osso bouco, both were great. My only fault was the mashed potatoes were a little thin, but that was only a minor point.
Overall a very good place for a nice dinner.
I have eaten there several times, and it's always been amazing! Food is delicious! This was my first time dining outside, it was such a nice evening and we enjoyed the outside atmosphere! Thanks again for a delightful evening!
A great Lincoln Park neighborhood restaurant, perfect for all year round dining but summer is best with the sidewalk dining option. Wine selection is good and menu selections are varied so there’s something for everyone I’m sure.
Service is always great and food is always delicious. My favorites are the Farfalle pasta with spinach and smoked chicken, the cowboy steak and the rack of lamb...Delicious!
my experience was very rushed!! We sat down to have a nice meal, ordered drinks and a appetizer. In 3 minutes all was out. I told the waitress that we were not in a rush and to slow down. She said no problem.(the restaurant was 3/4 full with nobody waiting). She then asked if we would like to order the main course. I responded that we would but please spread it out over time. I emphasized we were not in a rush. the 2nd course to split a pasta dish was out in 5 minutes. We still hadn't finished our 2 appetizers. then the main course came about 5 minutes later. the meal was ruined by then. We didn't even order a 2nd drink. the food was ok but crammed so fast. Also, the oso buco was a very small serving(but tasty). We were out in 50 minutes!! The waitress said that everyone was leaving to see the Mayweather Fight. We were leaving because they rushed us out. VERY DISAPPOINTING!
Our 2nd visit to the restaurant. And, after a pleasant and satisfying 1st visit, the quality of the 2nd visit paled in comparison. As with the 1st visit, we ordered corn meal crusted oysters. This time the oysters were tiny and were literally remnants of oysters overwhelmed with deep fried corn meal crust. One of our entrees was chicken parmigiana. The chicken's seasoning was not detectable and the chicken was dry. Upon letting the waitress know that the chicken was dry, the response we received was an apology and nothing more was done in response to our complaint.
We have decided not to visit the restaurant again.
This was our second time at Tarantino's and both times have been great. We have sat outside both times and we love the nice patio and neighborhood feel that you get. The beet carpaccio is great as well as the salmon. The service is top notch - the manager/owner stopped by to check on us - nice touch. It was half price bottles of wine night which made it even better!
We will definitely return!
Made the mistake of requesting an outdoor table on a nice evening. Sat near 2 loud groups, got a glass of red wine spilled on the back of my shirt by a woman at one of those tables. Service was really slow--finally had to ask the hostess if we had a waitress. Very different experience every other time we've gone here. We live a few blocks away and enjoy walking to a great spot. We'll consider this an off night and hope for a better experience next time.
The offerings are your standard fare of Italian inspired platings. The black linguine was good and very rich in flavor, but heavy handed on the salt. The peach and prosciutto appetizer was very good. This is definitely a neighborhood hangout with the locals.
Eat here often
Love the fresh baked bread
Menu specials always good
Portion nicely sized
Great ambience in a nice Lincol Park neighborhood
Not a busy night and the food service was a little slow this time
They need to chill their red wines. Always too warm and have to ask for the chiller used for white wines
We were very impressed with Tarantino's. Our server was very good and the food was delicious. We sat outside on a warm summer night. The guys had the black linguine with shrimp and mussels and the girls had the halibut. Nice sized portions. The halibut came with rosemary mashed potatoes and steamed green beans (which were crisp/tender, just the way I like them). The average price for an entree was $22-$24. Will definitely return.
We were there on a Sunday & the indoor part of the restaurant was not very busy. Unfortunately we had a brand new waitress who had some problems- one being she thought one person canceled their order which we didn't know occurred until the rest of us received our food. The restaurant then went & put in the order which didn't arrive until the rest of us were finished eating. I believe we should have received some compensation for this error. On the food quality, we were very disappointed. Not sure if this was due to it being a Sunday & the owner not being there but the service was slow but the quality will keep us from ever returning.
As usual, the food was excellent. I ordered my usual Cowboy Steak, and my wife ordered the Lemon Chicken. We split the Fried Oysters appetizer. Everything was delicious and because we had an early reservation (5:00 PM) we had the place to ourselves for the first 30 minutes. Only negative was tge lack of recognition of the special occasion- my 70th birthday. This was notated when making reservations on Open Table, but ignored by the restaurant
My husband and I celebrated my birthday here and the food was outstanding. We had the sausage and polenta with roasted red peppers for an appetizer and it was outstanding. I had the osso bucco and my husband had the lobster ravioli - both were delicious. Service was great; our waitress was very attentive.
The only thing I would recommend to the restaurant is to not have super fragrant flowers. They had huge red/purple lilies and the smell was just too powerful for a small space.
A lovely quiet restaurant serving delicious food and prepared and presented beautifully, all at reasonable cost. Nice place for friends to be able to get together, have a terrific meal and at the same time, be able to have a conversation. Staff is excellent, well informed and most friendly.
We have been to Tarantino numerous times. During this same time we have eaten at other Italian restaurants. But this is our favorite one. The food is always fresh and tasty and the portion is generous. In addition we were waited on by a new staff person. I forgot her name but I believe she was Latina. She was excellent. Very informative and very attentative. She made our delicious meal even more enjoyable. We have taken several friends there and they have been back. Kudos to the management, kitchen staff, wait persons and support staff!
