As always, Tar and Roses was excellent! We sat outdoors, and it was very festive! Our meals included the incredible snapper with dipping sauce and cold noodles, wood fired pea pods and tendrils, oxtail dumplings, rib appetizer, and a delicious crab cake. The service was stellar, and all four of us are ready to go back soon.
Excellent service and food.
A very memorable evening! Tar and Roses did a standout dinner for us. The server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and paced every dish well. Loved the bronzino. We ordered several small plates to share. The owner stopped by to check on us. We will be back!
Great food & Great service!
I believe this is one of the finest restaurants on the west side of Los Angeles. The menu is creative, the dishes are executed perfectly, the wine menu is very well curated, and the service is friendly and professional. This is where I bring out of town friends who have eaten at the best places in the world, when I want to give them pleasant surprise.
I've been here before and decided to come to celebrate my b.day dinner here. Waiter was very nice and wished me a happy birthday at the end/thanking me for coming here to celebrate. Food, of course was delicious...everything hit the mark. Got their oxtail dumplings....outside was cooked to perfection and it was well balanced with different flavors. The snapper had a very nice presentation and the dipping sauce that was included was delish. The hanger steak, I was a bit disappointed with the size/it was smaller than expected but nonetheless it was cooked to perfection and also delish. Loved their baby artichokes with yogurt, garlic, Parmesan. King Trumpet mushrooms were pretty good - bit more vinegar-ish tasting than I expected but still good. Their desserts were just divine: we got their sticky toffee pudding (WOW - perfection) as well as their strawberry tart with a honeycomb ice cream - also phenomenal. Def worth coming in for any meal or a celebration.
Another wonderful meal at Tar and Roses. The food there is incredibly consistently delicious and the service is always excellent.
This is one of my very favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. The deep-fried snapper is one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. The owner and his staff are amazing. I will come back to this restaurant forever.
Amazing food and service. Ribs, crudo, oxtail dumplings, and bone marrow are outstanding. House wine was also fantastic.
Amazing meal and experience
Everything was top notch
Can’t wait to go back
Food never disappoints. I actually like the sidewalk seating with lots of heat lamps but it is a little noisy with street noise and pedestrians. Still, I prefer it to the inside roar that seems to creep into most places. Coming here is always a treat.
Service was excellent. We had dumplings, Bone marrow, spicy crab cakes, eggplants and ribs. The flavor was good but a bit too intense and salty to our taste. We have to ask for some bread to blend it out but still couldn't finish because the taste was just too heavy.
A great variety of wine and beer. But I wasn’t quite satisfied with food. Great Service.
This was my second time at Tar and Roses. The menu features a broad range of tempting items which are all well executed. The Fried Snapper which comes with the fish perched as though it is swimming so that you can pull morsels from it is a signature dish that is signature priced at $69 for two. The service is informed and enthusiastic. The experience doesn't suffer too much from being out on the sidewalk. Tables are comfortably spaced. The corkage is high at $45 for a wine list that can best be described as unambitious and modest. The stemware is adequate but nothing special.
Delicious and unusual food. The menu looked amazing. we sampled about a dozen items for the 4 of us. My favorites were the duck with kumquat and the seafood pasta, the ribs and eggplant were also excellent. I didn’t quite understand the waiter’s explanation for the unusual name. Will definitely come back next time I’m in town.
Best dinner I’ve had in LA. Outstanding flavors and portion sizes for sharing. Servers were knowledgeable, friendly and at the table whenever needed. Wish I lived closer. Put one on the east side please!!!
Great service and high quality food! Nice ambiance too
Amazing food and service🥰
Fantastic food. So creative and lovely. A wonderful first experience. Thank you. I'll be back!
My husband will only eat his meat well done (I know it's a crime) and most places will leave it pink. Tar & Roses did the juiciest most perfect well done steak I've ever seen. The broccolini and potatoes were amazing. They have created a very nice seating area with lovely ambiance despite the current pandemic circumstances.
Great food and service as usual. Great to see that their business is improving!
First time visit and love the food and service, we celebrated my body BD , we will be back, thanks Kyle and others serving our dining experience.
Fantastic. Such a great dining experience. My favorite restaurant!
Everything was excellent as always. And, as always, we ordered far too much, but who can limit themselves...
incredible food and ingenuity of recipes. Loved the cauliflower, the glazed ribs, the branzino, and the desserts.
Love Tar & Roses! It’s one of our favorites! The food is wonderful as is the service. Presentation is lovely, just a great, all around restaurant.
Outstanding in every aspect
First time at Tar and Roses in over a year, so glad it's back and open. Food, service and ambience were all first class. Really happy to get back.
Tar & Roses is a wonderful restaurant. The food is creative and excellent. I have eaten here many times and it is consistently outstanding.
It was great!!
Happy to be back! As always, terrific service and delicious food.
Loved it so much when we went for Easter dinner that we went back a week later to try more items from the menu. Looking forward to going back again.
We had a exceptionally great experience. Not only was the food outstanding, the staff was also. One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had.
Always a great meal! Service and food were perfect. I highly recommend the whole snapper for two. We also got the baby artichokes, yellowtail crudo and chocolate bar. All were great! The other couple with us got the duck, oxtail dumplings, shellfish pot and asparagus. They said the egg on the asparagus was a bit much, but otherwise loved the meal.
Second time - really good food - ordered about 8 small plates, and all were at least interesting, with a couple of standouts: chicken liver mousse, octopus skewers, oxtail dumplings. The restaurant has very few tables inside, so you have lots of space and privacy, and its fairly quiet. Service was great.
One downside is the wine list, which is absurdly expensive, whether by the glass or bottles. If a sommelier cant offer a few good wines under $50, they should be in another line of work. I'd bring a nice bottle and pay the $35 corkage. Another good alternative is their strong selection of draft beers.
The food was incredible, especially the grilled octopus skewers. Amazing service as well. 10/10 recommend!
Best food best service best everything 🎈❤️
Very creative small plate menu. So delicious! Every dish was memorable. The wait staff was attentive, well informed and very helpful. I honestly considered eating there 2 nights in a row- the food was that good.
We ventured out for the first time in a long time and had our first dinner at Tar & Roses. First, we had a fabulous waiter, Brad! Very outgoing and friendly and eager to walk us through our first experience at this restaurant. He helped us order all the right small plates, and we were doted on from beginning to end by the various servers that visited our table. The food was incredible - the flavors are just amazing - specifically the oxtail dumplings, the balsamic glazed ribs, and the charred octopus skewers!
We had just the right amount of food then dessert and coffee! It was really wonderful, and we walked away knowing that we would return again.... and soon!
