Great food, service, knowledgeable team working here. Completely enjoyed, thank you!
The food was nothing short of spectacular. Every dish was well conceived and executed. Our waiter was informative, interesting and amusing. The reservation was efficiently handled, with a table ready for us to dine. The aspect of the restaurant was professional. This restaurant deserves a Michelin star!
Always love going to Tar & Roses for celebrations. Excellent food that appeals to even my pickiest friends. Thank you!
Very good food, pleasant service but be careful about being on speed eating if you go. A $300 dinner for 3 in a bit over an hour???
Very expensive for such a rushed dinner.
This place does not disappoint. Even after 9 years since my last visit the quality of food is still there and the food, wine and service were all stellar.
The food was amazing. Thr Lamb dish was incredible. I had a glass of wine which was delicious. Just thought it could be a little more wine for 1 glass full.
Overall 5 stars.
One of the very best restaurants in Los Angeles. Creative dishes with explosive flavors. Presentations quite alluring and service impeccable. Enjoy the hip but not pretentious vibe. We lingered just to experience the fantastic background music playlist.
Came here for our anniversary dinner and it was well worth it. Tried so many new types of food and the wine pairing was perfect. Dining room is a bit dark, but we really enjoyed the entire experience.
The food, ambiance and service was outstanding.
Everything we ordered was delicious and left such a good taste in our pallets. So glad we had the opportunity to experience this amazing restaurant.
Fantastic restaurant and great service!
Waiters and waitresses are inattentive to the point it could be construed as disinterested. It is a shame as th3 food is very good
Great food !
Music was a tad loud. Previous visits on the patio had a much nicer vibe.
We had high hopes!! Plates just didn’t hit the mark for us. Steak for 2 was tough, plating not on par. Gnocchi was good, wine list mediocre & over priced.
Unfortunately we had to sit outside, but food and service were excellent!
Our evening was fantastic! We were seated in the outdoor patio space behind the restaurant. It is a quaint and Cody space. Our waitress Carly was friendly, efficient, and professional. We ordered various dishes to share. The portions were perfect. Each dish was unique- flavorful, fresh and delicious. Carly suggested a great Italian wine to go with our meal. We finished off our dinner with a strawberry puff pasty dessert that was served with ice cream- yum!! Our evening was wonderful/ hope to return soon.
I would have given 5 stars on service but I felt the host could have been nicer.
The Strawberry croustade never disappoints!!
Lovely meal and natural wines with no sulfates are available. Great for someone like me who loves wine but gets a headache from the sulfates.
Menu is creative and well executed. A few things were truly outstanding, like the Oxtail dumplings. Others were very good but not amazing.
Was super happy with the service. They were patient with our long dinner and understood that they should just hang back and let us talk.
Always eat here. Spectacular. Unique flavor in each item.
We had celebrated friends' anniversary here a couple months ago and returned for a birthday celebration and to see if it was as spectacular as it was the first time.
Well it was. The food is beyond words - the chef is so amazing with his ingredients and cooking. We actually had just returned from France where we had great food but not as good as Tar and Roses!
Food was excellent, unique flavors and well prepared. I will definitely return.
It was a very nice evening. Good food pleasant service in a nice atmosphere.
Absolutely fantastic. Flavors were deep, fragrant, and mouthwatering. Ribs out of this world. Not a single plate missed the mark. Highly recommend.
Fantastic food, plates are great for sharing. Loved the ambiance. Very polite and knowledgeable staff.
Excellent dinner as always. We had the venison and duck and ribs. Also gem lettuce salad. Love the cauliflower and the new squash dish.
Highly recommend it, we did sit outside, it was great. Food is excellent.
Excellent evening. Three of us had small-plate cauliflower, corn and ribs and the seafood stew - all excellent, shared two deserts and a bottle of Robert Sinkkey POV at $129 alone, all for $275. Great servers.
The service was impeccable, the food was beyond incredible, full of flavors that burst in your mouth. We ordered 3 appetizers and 1 entree and 2 sides. Perfect for 2 people. The mushrooms and cod dish were insanely delicious and the bone marrow and beef cheeks were unreal. The fried cauliflower was light and delicate with a hint of sweetness and the yellowtail sashimi was bursting with flavor uniquely dressed with grapefruit and sweet lemon for a melt in your mouth experience. The next day I was craving it so I will return again. And the chocolate ganache desert with maple ice cream and roasted hazelnuts. Holy moly. The best. Go enjoy this place you will love it
Most impressive service and food! Thank you for all of your love that you put into your offerings.
I haven't been to Tar and Roses for a couple of years and I'm glad I came back. I got there 1 hour earlier than my reservation time and the restaurant was able to seat me immediately, which was well appreciated!
The first thing that hit me once inside the restaurant was the loud noise level. It was deafening. I can hardly hear anything my friend said across the table. I understand the brick lined wall has very little sound insulation, but it certainly put a dent on the dining experience. It may be OK for millennials, but it was too much noise.
A shout out to Brad, the wait staff who was very good and friendly. He was busy, but somehow found the time to take good care of us.
Had the Bone Marrow, Chicharrons, Grilled Maitake Mushrooms, Fried Whole Snapper and Strawberry Tart. The Bone Marrow is EXCELLENT! It was grilled just right with a touch of vinegar to cut through the fat. The Chicharrons was good and Grilled Maitake Mushrooms was okay. The Fried Whole Snapper is interesting: It was fried reminiscing a Famous Shanghai Style Whole Fried Fish with the flesh scored in crisscross pattern and fried to a crisp. However, it came with a Thai style dipping sauce. The side cold noodle again resembles the Shanghai style cold noodle, but it used Japanese Soba Noodle. All in all very interesting and I guess truly "fusion". The Strawberry Tart desert was good and flavorful with a good balance of mildly salty crust, sweet and sour notes and a very mild spicy kick at the end.
Innovative food well prepared with fresh ingredients. The server was a presumptous self-absorbed seeming Hollywood want to be. The rooms are very noisy, with the back room being a bit quieter but still challenging for conversation.
Really exceptional food.
I expect to go back on our next visit to LA.
Particularly special: the marrow and the venison.
Tar and Roses never fails. Our dinner was delicious. Nick was the perfect guide through the menu, encouraging us to try new dishes, all of which were great! Can't wait to go back.
Outside dining is different from indoor dining. We sat outdoors ( table preference not an option) and felt very removed. Different experience than indoor seating. Only in town for the weekend so didn’t get to experience the ambiance of the restaurant, very forgettable.
Singaporean chili crab cake, wood roasted maitake mushroom, and snapper for two.
Our appetizers/mains/sides/desserts were all A+!!! Our party of three ordered 8 different things and they are all standouts: oxtail dumplings, Shanghai crab cakes, spaghetti carbonara, wood roasted chicken, artichokes and chocolate cake. WOW 🤩 well done!!
Carly provided an amazing experience with her mouthwatering description of dishes and wonderful recommendations of pairings. The meal was outstanding!
This is our favorite place to go to, so we are regulars and always happy to bring friends along with us. Had a mid-week dinner with friends, as its easier to get seated during prime time. We set inside and ordered a bunch of small plates to share as we wanted to have their deep-fried whole snapper for our main. Every dish was excellent as always: oxtail dumplings, chicken liver pate, duck crostini, wagu beef cheeks lettuce wraps, and of course whole fried snapper. We all shared dessert (chocolate mouse bar with ice cream)
the staff is very attentive, both owners were there (which is great to see), service was excellent, the ambiance is great. I Recommend it to anyone who likes to try adventurous dishes that Andrew creates. We always look forward to new creations and waiting for some old ones to come back to a menu. thank you
We celebrated our anniversary here and enjoyed the whole fried red snapper, oxtail dumplings, Wagyu cheek lettuce wraps and eggplant. All dishes were well done and we finished up with the strawberry ricotta crostata for dessert which was delicious.
One of our favorite restaurants in LA. Tar and Roses has been around for a while and is still going strong. The food is amazing and the menu seems to change often. We usually choose to sit on the back outside patio. It is quiet and romantic, and a lot of fun when we are joined by our friends. I recently chose this place to celebrate my birthday and that says a lot with all of the restaurant choices out there.
Every single bite of food is delicious. Every single one!
