TAPS Fish House & Brewery Ratings and Reviews
$250 bought the 4 of us a freezing cold table, a need to request bread 4 times before it actually came and the meal was almost over, and we had to get up to leave to get the dessert we ordered to take home, so as not to miss our movie. I hope this reminds me not go back. The jambalaya had no spice, the sauce on the steak was weird, and we were promised berries in the to-go-bag with our cheesecake, but they were not included. Very disappointing. No wonder the restaurant was practically empty. Too much money for mediocre food and service that tells me they don't have enough people . The waiter was nice, but seemed stressed over all the tables he had to cover. I blame that on the restaurant, not the waiter.
I write a review on yelp but more accurately, the food was decent but not mind blowing. Notably, my wife got a crappy salad that looked like more of a side salad than a dinner salad and my steak was bland. The oysters were good, the fish dinners looked good and tasted ok, although a bit on the bland side, and my cocktails were good but a little on the sweet side.
Sunday brunch. Some good seafood options. Liked the beets but no real salads. Probably doesn't turn over enough. Lots of low end items on the hot trays like macaroni and cinnamon rolls. Turkey on the carving table must have been left over from Thanksgiving. Beyond dry. They charge a high price for mediocre food. Service was good.
Went for a special occasion 30 birthday. Made sure to put special occasion on open table, followed it up with a phone call as to could I order the dessert to make sure one came out with happy birthday. The girl on the phone was rude told me they already had it down from open table. When dinner was over no dessert came out, it was as if I never put a request. Next day called to tell them how disappointed I was never received a call back. That night also told hostess as we left didn't seem to care. If your celebrating a special event please consider a better restaurant!
Been coming here off and on since it opened. Great raw bar and good food overall. Seems lately that the prices have crept up to the point that it’s no longer the good value that it was. For example, some oysters were $42 a dozen— a little steep for any place, let alone a chain. Cheapest dessert was $9, going up to $12. Even top flight places in L.A. don’t usually get that steep. Hope they let cost of living catch up to prices before they hike them any more.
Came for Sunday brunch and was really surprised at the poor food quality. The cold section was great but the hot food was really disappointing for how much you pay. Dry roast, stiff cold potatoes, lukewarm soup, etc. I would maybe come back for dinner but I won't waste my money on overpriced brunch again. Service was wonderful though, our waitress was the best.
Host Desk needs much improvement. Every time I go, it seems there's an issue.
2 nights ago, they seated someone else in error when someone I dont even know responded to my name being called. (Are these scammers who like to cut the line by standing right near the hostess desk and just say "that's me"s to any last name?) TAPS: write down what color I'm wearing so you know it's me who responds to the last name!
I hadn't heard my name, because I was further away from the desk, but I was definitely still right there in the lobby area.
TAPS apologized and did seat us right away after learning of their error, but at THE WORST table in the place. The table right near the service corner, and at the intersection of two aisles.
Horrible! The waitstaff was bumping into the back of my chair all night long! Also hauling giant buckets practically over my head, back into that service corner. Meanwhile, someone else was enjoying what should've been "my" table.
About 3 months ago they "lost" my reservation, but fortunately I'd written down the name of who I spoke with, so they honored it, after making me wait for 30 mins.
Great food. Front desk needs serious customer service instruction! Very poorly run for a nicer dining place.
Been to this restaurant many times and has always been an outstanding experience, however this time the waiter was not as attentive and up sold one of us ion a meal by telling us there was little shrimp and if we wanted more. Made it seem it was needed and so we agreed and said to add two shrimps and he then said "how about we add 5 shrimps'. We figured if he said that much more was needed that we just agree. Turns out no extra shrimp was needed at all and when the bill came this meal that was originally moderately priced cost over $42, making us feel like we were manipulated and cheated . Also, after we finished our meal, the waiter brings over a dessert menu, at which time we notice there was a Pre-selected Menu that we could have ordered from but yet this menu was never given to us or mentioned when seated at the table and ordering. It was extremely disappointing and turned us all off to the point of considering not returning. Very unfortunate!
Soupiest ciopino I've ever had. Had to ask for a spoon to eat it. Had to ask for a spoon for the lobster dumplings too. The John Dory fish was dry and overpriced. I'm from Las Vegas. Although the restaurant had Las Vegas prices, it did not have the quality. Sorry!
Our meal was excellent, as with previous dining experiences at Taps. We were, however, very disappointed with the table we were seated at. Although there were many open tables in the main dining room, we were seated at a corner table in the side room and were the only ones in there for the better past of an hour. We have been going to Taps for the past 20 years but this evening felt as if we were not welcome
Hostess, Servers & Bus personnel friendly and attentive until our server disappeared (literally—he must have been on a well earned 30-minute break but no one took over for him). We flagged the hostess who came running and processed our credit cards quickly. Food was delicious. Valet courteous. But this time Taps fell below a 5/5.
We go to TAPS for special occasions. Their Chilean seabass is outstanding. Their meat selections are good but could use just a bit more seasoning. Their soups (New England Clam Chowder) and salads (Caesar) are outstanding. The crème brulee is a good "go to" for dessert. . but not so sure about the others. Overall, we enjoy going to TAPS since we know we will get good food.
The wait staff service was very good. The head hostess at front desk however, was not friendly and not accommodating to our seating request, and could not provide an honest answer to why our request could not be accommodated. We had an early reservation, 5:30 pm, restaurant was more than half empty at the time. She was very cold and unfriendly. Food quality did not match the prices they charge at all, it was over-priced.
Service was atrocious - complained to server numerous times with limited results. Orders for wine and cocktails extremely slow - something just wasn't working between the bar and the server. If I were the owner I would discharge our server and the bartender. Kitchen was also very slow but the food when it finally arrived was excellent. Have been here in the past with a better experience.
I must say that the food was absolutely tasteful, a bit pricey but worth every bite full. I made reservations so I didn't have to wait. Service was sub part. Overall if you're looking for very good food and don't mind spending an extra few bucks this is the place
My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner for our anniversary. As usual service was attentive and spot-on and our fish meals were delicious. The quality and portions are always perfect at Taps, and it is our go-to place for special occasions as well as 'just because' if we feel like splurging. The complimentary sourdough bread with garlic dipping sauce is fantastic and we also appreciated our complimentary creme brulee given us for our anniversary. I highly recommend Taps.
