TAPS Fish House & Brewery - Dos Lagos Ratings and Reviews
This was a favorite place but it's now more overpriced than delicious. I got the newer shrimp dinner, something similar is offered at Corner Bakery Cafe for a third of the price. 5 shrimp on a dinner costing almost $30, not impressive and to make it worse they were overcooked. Luckily my husband loved his salmon and enjoyed his beer. We were hoping for something special on Halloween, but here it was just another night.
We used to come once a month guaranteed. Now we come just a few times a year. Just not as wonderful and not as worth the price anymore.
We've been going to Taps, since they opened, (Brea and Corona) We remember how fantastic brunch used to be! A live band, necklaces, beignets, it was amazing! Now, it's nice, but needs improvement. So many foods needed replenishment, each time we went to the buffet. The manager is very nice, but she looks like a patron, instead of a manager. When she asked me if I needed anythhing, I didn't know what to say! I thought she was a guest, from another table!!! The bathroom had no toilet paper, so no one is taking care of that department. We will continue to go to Taps, because it's great sometimes, and have been going since the Brea location opened. Corona Taps is a great location! That's why we'll be back!
I typically don’t write reviews but this place sucked. We Normally dine at the taps in brea and love it. Everything about this meal was bad. There were 4 of us and we ordered the following. Jumbolaya, tilapia, sea bass and I orders the rib eye. My colleague ordered the jumbolaya and he took two bites and that was it. He didn’t say it because I was treating for dinner but you could tell it was horrible. He ate most of his Wife’s dinner which was the Talapia. From what I could tell that was the only edible dish we had. My wife had the sea bass which at the brea taps is the best. Very dry and whatever add ons that came on the plate were inedible. For $40 it was terrible. Finally I had the rib eye special. It
Came with a large shrimp and a small lobster tail. Both of these were chewy like bubble gum which means the fish want fresh. As for the rib eye, I think Denny’s sirloin is better which isn’t saying much. The meat was tough and chewy. You could tell a very downgrade of meat. Not the quality would expect for the price. There was a side of mashed potatoes that had what tasted like horse radish in them. Wow. Way to screw up the easiest dish in the world to make. Note to chef, butter, milk salt and pepper is all you need for goo mashed potatoes, NOT HORSE RADISH. Oh well I wanted was the mako but even though it was offered on the menu it wasn’t available. Along with the desert we wanted once again offered but not available. Company was great dinner was bad.
Been going to Taps at this location for about 5 years. It is a pretty solid choice when we are in the mood for a fine dining experience. The seafood is excellent. The staff is attentive and well-trained. The ambiance and décor are very pleasant. I recommend it highly and plan to continue visiting regularly.
We had a horrible date night meal at TAPS! They try to project as they are a fine dining restaurant but both our meals lacked flavor!! My wife got the fish special and the fish was very bland and the risotto was in a pool of liquid making it soggy! I had the cioppino and it was a mess!! The sauce was thick and super spicy and was just seafood spaghetti. We will not be returning again!! It was busy but the people did not seem like foodies at all!! We were more than disappointed as any real foodie would be! You can really tell they are a chain restaurant and a bad one at best!!
The Heritage Room where we were seated was filled with large party tables and as a result, the room was extremely loud. Additionally, the temperature in the restaurant, specifically where my party was seated, was blazing hot. We asked the server if the a/c could be kicked up and at first she was sincere about adjusting the a/c. When we asked if she was successful about changing the a/c, her curt response was, "we can't drop the temperature lower than 73...sorry" and then she took off rarely coming back to our table. We can mark a check on our bucket list that we tried TAPS for brunch, but we won't be back.
Used to be a great dinner house, first they switched out the martini glasses to little champagne glasses then the eliminated Cointreau from cosmopolitans then the dozen oysters were micro mini in size, food was okay but a $69 steak should be better than Outback's and two out of four of our party had to wait 15 minutes for their dinners while we waited and other meals were cooling. For $450 bill we should have gone to Flemings! And wine list is substandard. No wonder why Citrus City is packed!
First time there. Prices were pretty high for the amount of food and the area. Had the ceviche for an appetizer and it's more like a mini - shrimp cocktail with a tomato sauce that's a tad bit too sweet for me. I had the steak trio and the filets were good, but small. The shrimp accompaniment was dry as were the mashed potatoes. The crab topping on one had a very strange taste (scraped it off). Thinking I should have went with the old reliable - fish and chips. Maybe next time, if there is one.
Ordered the pruchito wrapped sea bass. It was a disaster over cooked. This was their special of the day. Sent it back and ordered the salmon which was good. The manager was appologetic and personally came over and ask if he could get us any other item from the menu. Great service overall.
My wife and I normally enjoy this TAPS restaurant very much and would give it 5 stars all around. The other night was an exception and even the food did not seem to be up to par. Unfortunately, we did not get our usually great waiter/ess. We got Greg. As we were ordering, my wife asked him to make sure and bring the quesadilla plate out early for our daughter that goes along with the kids meal, since she was hungry. Greg abruptly told her not to worry because he had everything under control. Well, he didn't and we had to ask the fellow bringing water to do it because Greg forgot. Greg was rushed and abrupt (and humorless) throughout the meal, not the sort of friendly service normally provided by TAPS.
At the end of the meal we asked Greg for a box for our daughter's extra cheeseless cheeseburger. Instead, he took her plate away and never brought it back in a box. Needless to say, we won't be having Greg as our server again.
