Tapas Papa Frita Ratings and Reviews
I went there for my birthday and the server was nothing but horrible, his service pretty much ruined my family time. The time between a plate an another was ridiculous! I ended up having dinner alone because the server kept bringing out one plate at time. It took him forever to get us refills, we literally had to ask him for a refill 20 mintues after our cups were empty. I regret the moment in which I decided to celebrate my birthday at this restaurant. Will never go back.
This my second time and both times the food has been very good. The menu has a great selection of tapas and meant for sharing; however some of the tapas may be too small and if sharing; you may need to order a few plates, if you are sharing with more than two people. The paellas are very good. On my second visit the restaurant was busier than the first so the service was a bit slower and the waitress seem to be a bit overwhelmed with the tables that she was managing. This definitely will not push me away from the restaurant I will definitely be back as the first time I had a great experience and I know that because it was busier she may have been overwhelmed so I'm not going to go hold it against the restaurant. Be prepare to wait a bit longer for your food if you order Paella. Hint, hint. Order a few tapas before the paella and rhe wait will not be noticeable.
We had an excellent evening with friends. We sat outside (away from band as they are great for background but are reasonably loud) We shared lots of Tapas dishes which were excellent and 2 Paella’s (Valencia - traditional, Diablo - V hot and spicy)
Wine is reasonably priced and a good selection. Will definitely be going back.
We enjoyed a lovely fall evening on the patio of Tapas Papa Frita. It is a great place to share tapas and also has wonderful paella choices to share. The wine list rightly leans to Spain with a few continental choices thrown in. The service is friendly and helpful in translating the menu and offering suggestions. The bacon wrapped dates are always an excellent choice. The meatballs were a bit bland and the sauce did not do anything for them. The lamb was tasty but overdone. The dessert churros are a must eat.
Tapas Papa Frita allows you to dine leisurely while enjoying the patio. They have live music on Fridays and Flamenco on Saturday.
I loved the outdoor seating. It was really cute one the patio. I am not really picky when it comes to food, but for the prices, the food was not that great. One of the dishes we ordered due to seeing others on Open Table suggesting it were the Lamb Chops. They were over cooked. The little sausages had a really strange and strong taste. The food just was nothing to talk about. I was a little disappointing since this was our night out in Scottsdale while on vacation.
This restaurant is one of the best outdoor tables in Scottsdale. The white twinkle lights in the trees make it very festive. We were celebrating a birthday and our server surprised us with a dessert after she found out. Very friendly and accommodating to any of our requests. Food is always good here and there are choices for every type of appetite.
I’ve been missing some culture having returned from a few years abroad and came here with my mom to see the flamenco / guitar show - when we walked in the door exhausted from a day of travel we bumped into the chef/owner who was so welcoming and friendly - which makes the experience even better - the food was delicious - the patatas bravas were perfect - and I will definitely be back to see the show again - gives me a place to entertain friends from out of town - and to feel like I’m back in Europe.
The food was great, we ordered the Chef's special $45 pp and you got 10 assorted tapas and Paella, everything was very tasty . We had the Red Sangria and they have a Flamenco show 7-10 on Friday's and Saturdays. The place was busy everyone looked like they were having a fabulous time and singing along. It was great! Will go back again.
Took my mom and elderly aunts there for dinner Saturday to celebrate 80th bday of one of my aunts. We all had a fabulous time. The food was delicious and the entertainment was fantastic. The flamenco dancer was one of the best I've seen in a long time. The service was a little slow at the end but they were incredibly busy by then so they get a pass. The waitress was pleasant made great recommendations and spoke Spanish to the table which everyone enjoyed. A little pricey for the dinners, but when you add the entertainment it was well worth it. I highly recommend it.
We read great reviews for their happy hour tapas and went solely for this purpose. Unfortunately, it was AZ Restaurant Week and the restaurant decided not to honor the happy hour listed on their website. Ridiculously frustrating. Since we had traveled 30 minutes just to eat here and had already sat down, so we stayed.
We went with the AZ restaurant week special. Started off with tapas. The portions were really small. Nothing like any other tapas place we have been. Most were a single bite. Not even enough to share. As an example, it listed bacon wrapped dates (plural). It was actually just a single date. The date was by far the most extravagant thing we had. Most of the tapas seemed more like someone chopped up some vegetables and then put them on a plate. Disappointing.
The only highlight of the dinner were entrees (vegetarian pasta and lamb). They were both very good. However, we normally would not have even ordered entrees at a tapas place. They were included with the special.
The dessert was average. Overall this was a frustrating visit and not a good value. Total for two people was $130, with one person ordering water and another ordering a single glass of wine.
Our server was very helpful, informational, professional and friendly. He did tell us his name but I cannot remember it. Our food was excellent! We enjoyed the restaurant week options. The tapas came out very quickly and the service staff were very attentive with our drinks. They had a live Cuban band outside, that was great.
The area is nice, the inside is beautiful. The place was not crowded at all and is perfect for a date, birthday or any event for that matter. I loved that I could talk with my friends and enjoy food all together. It was a great atmosphere!
The menu is mostly small plates meant for sharing & reasonably priced depending on how you see it. Our total for a meal of four was $131.00 without tip. Service could have been a bit better. Don't get me wrong, we were treated well and our food was great, however, waiters took a bit too long to clear our table. I am not a picky dinner but since this is a Tapas rest. there were many plates on the table and the experience could be nicer if plates are cleared as they are done. Also, i enjoyed the flamenco music and dancing but if there is going to be a flamenco show the night you visit my recommendation is to sit away from the stage as it can get loud. If you are going to see the show is ok to sit close. On our visit, we were meeting with friends and wanted to catch up and with the live music was a bit difficult to talk as we were not aware there will be music when we made the reservation. Overall this was a great place and the location is amazing.
You provided a magical night...mother's 85th bday. Her "bucket list" wish..paella!
The authentic Spanish food including tapas was outstanding. Our table location lovely..the wait staff incredible & personal. Entire experience rated 5 stars. Our reservation time of 5:30 perfect in sept for sunset. When my sister (Jeanine Blauvelt) comes in to dine, take good care of her too please!
The restaurant said they were not aware our party was celebrating a birthday even though it was stated specifically on the reservation form. They apologized and provided a complimentary dessert for the person.
Our waiter noticed I was inspecting the silverware closer than normal and replaced a dirty knife immediately.
The owner visited our table seeking feedback straight from the customer which is an outstanding management practice.
Definitely will be returning to"graze" uninterrupted and not feel pressured to turn the table.
My standard of comparison is Jaleo in DC which may not be fair since Jaleo is truly an extraordinary place. The food here was good but not great. Oxtail was very good. Gambas al pil pil was quite spicy but good. I would have liked to have ordered Jason iberico but $30 is too much. I've seen it elsewhere for $20and their plate of jamon Serrano wasn't bigger than normal so I don't think that was the reason. Otherwise the prices were reasonable. Service was slow and uneven. Hard to get drink refills. Hard to even get a menu at first.
First world problems.
The food was amazing as usual, and our server Arturo was beyond fantastic. He was entertaining, knowledgeable, and just an overall asset to this business. He truly made our dinner a wonderful experience. I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion, and definitely ask for Arturo!
We have eaten many times here. We travel in from Tucson. Always had good meals. This visit was very disappointing. If I wasn't so tired and not up to speed I would have sent my meal back. We ordered Gambas for an appetizer and the shrimp were under cooked. My wife ordered garlic chicken CASSEROLE. It was not what she expected. I guess Spanish cooking has a different version of a casserole. One lump each of chicken, potato and carrot does not make for a casserole. She should have sent that back also. And finally I ordered pork tenderloin which was dry and well done. So I must say this was not a good experience this time.
