This restaurant has the bones to be GREAT. The restaurant is lovely and in a prime location on the waterfront in Old Town Scottsdale. The service in general was understaffed and infrequent. Our particular server, however, was charming and very friendly. She needed more help though as it was a Saturday night, and my chair kept getting bumped into by the support staff running food. The food was very good, (we did a pre-fixe tapas and paella at $45/head.) Tapas were superb, Paella was rather mild...needed more pizazz in the spicing department, but overall very good, still. The view and patio were simply charming, however, the lack of music was noticeable and would have really stirred the ambience if it were a little louder (not too loud though) as it really is a quaint spot!
Fabulous food, great services, a bit expensive
Our waitress (and rest of staff) did an excellent job! Forgot how good it was and is the perfect place for friends to get together and chillax!
Wish we had more time to make sure we could include this as a regular stop in old town! Can’t wait to go back!
Spanish guitar and Flamenco carry this place for sure.
We love the restaurant, as the food is wonderful, but on this particular night we were disappointed by the service. Took a long time to order and when food arrived it was lukewarm..hoping this is just a one off as it was a busy Saturday night. A shoutout to the hostess, however, as she did a great job.
Great food and live music, along with flamengo dancer.
Variety. Creativity. Service. Outdoors view. Try it. You wont be disappointed. Live guitar music inside.
This was my second visit to Tapas Papa Frita, as the first visit was so memorable. They have a large selection of tapas, each of which was outstanding. My particular favorite were the bacon-wrapped figs. The gazpacho is unique and delicious. We ate on the outdoor patio along the canal which provided a nice space to have conversation and watch people go by. Spanish music was piped in - just loud enough to create ambience but not to overpower conversation. The establishment has a lively vibe and seems popular for people of all ages.
Great atmosphere, interesting and varied menu (lots of tapas options & paella dishes), live music inside, beautiful terrace for outdoor dining. Delicious homemade bread with garlicky aioli sauce. Good escargot tapas dish, good avocado, shrimp and pickled onion tapas. Tasty authentic chicken paella. We both loved the creme brûlée. All dishes/courses came out very late, including the 2 rounds of drinks on the house for the lateness as well as the comped dessert, except our own drink order which arrived in minutes.
We will be back (this was our second visit) because we love the atmosphere, outdoor dining by the water, and the staff are very accommodating, even when there were many mistakes and delays made at our 3 hour dinner.
Incidentally, our waiter for our first visit was OUTSTANDING - very attentive, polite, polished. Ours definitely needed polish, but he was considerate and polite.
Great location to people watch at the South Bridge area. The food is authentic and is just like being in Spain. The sangria was excellent.
Best tapas in town and amazing flamenco show! Will recommend it for sure
This was my third time at this restaurant. Will probably not go back. My granddaughters so enjoy the flamenco dancing that is performed on weekends. However, the wait staff is so incredibly rude and non attentive. We waited over 30 minutes to even get waited on. The good is pretty good, but the noise level is so high it was not an enjoyable evening.
Everyone in our 10-party group had a blast and enjoyed the delicious food!
Great food! Very loud if u sit inside but gives you real feeling of Spain! Sangria’s perfect! Yummy tapas!
Excellent tasting menu with a sampling of their best dishes. Big group of 9 people. Great value at $45/person. Service was excellent.
This was our third visit to the restaurant and the food (tapas) was great, as usual! HOWEVER, it's the second time they forgot our entrees. I still loved the food, but for the price, I hoped for better service.
We were truly disappointed in our experience at Tapas Papas. Our service was not attentive or even very friendly and our food was average. We shared many plates which were pretty average. We were truly disappointed in the lamb chop as it was pretty fatty. The bread and dip to start was very good. We try new places often and will probably not return to Tapas Papas. I do hope it was just an off night for them.
Service was not very good.... our folding cafeteria table was set for 10 but comfortably could sit 8. The service staff didn’t know the menu and we had three different servers... very over priced. Three attempts to get a bottle of wine, out of stock of a couple, then the one we did get was spoiled... ordered watered down cocktails at a premium price. Might be good for a small party of 2, but missed the mark on a larger group.
Great location; excellent service; nice ambiance. Energetic feel without being overly noisy.
Great food always! We unfortunately had poor service this time but we’ll be back!
Muy Bien!!! Thanks for hosting our company for tapas!!!
This is a special location in downtown Scottsdale. Great food, terrific drinks, and super location. High recommend for casual dining with live music.
Food was very good. Service was terrible. We were rushed, unattended , no water, no silverware between courses. Our food arrived cold because the waitress served the salad , soup and entree all within 12 minutes of time. we asked them to hold the entree and they did and when it came back it was ice cold. In the mean time we had no flatware and thus the food sat again for some time. Just awe full and our guests were disappointed. Also we selected wine later to find out after it was poured they ran out and we had to choose another selection. They also ran out of a Tapas appetizer we selected. We have been there before and the last time our waiter was incredible . This time she was neglectful and certainly not pleasing.
We enjoyed the $45/person tasting menu. Wonderful Paella! Very pleased. We'll be back.
Food, service and experience was disappointing. First the food, sorry but I’ve had better tapas. The papas bravatas were processed battered fries with the chef’s sauce on them. The server recommended the crab stuffed peppers, which was supposed to be their most popular. It was obviously pre-made (which is understandable because I I know the preparation that must go into it), but it came out cold. The tomato salad with goat cheese. I love goat cheese, but I would have preferred the salad to have crumbles of cheese over it, rather than 3 balled pieces which were cold. When a soft cheese like that is served cold, the flavor of the cheese is diminished. Overall, the disappointing thing about the food was execution.
I asked the server if he had a cocktail menu because the ambiance and decor of the place screamed they could make some special libations. Nope. He just said they have a full bar and they could make “anything”. Well I ordered an Old Fashioned. It was terrible and watered down. How about putting in a slice of the orange rind, rather than grating tiny rind pieces into it? No description or offer of their Sangria.
The experience; we ordered 6 tapas plus the paella valenciana. The tapas came out very fast and all at once. How can you enjoy and savor? Then the paella shortly after. I guess there wasn’t much to prepare those dishes.
I noted that we were celebrating a birthday (my wife’s) on the reservation. That was ignored.
The weather was perfect for outside dining and we were seated on the patio. Had a good bottle of Spanish wine with our meal. The tapas were all very good, especially the raw ahi with watermelon. Entrees were also very good and the portions were large, allowing us to take part of the meal home. Chef Joseph's food is always great.
Horrible service. Took forever. Wrong food delivered and taken away with an attitude. Charged for dish never delivered. Every dish was bad. Really bad. Even sangria was bad. Flamenco & music so loud we were shouting the whole time. I have no idea how that place was so full.
Nice Tapas and full plate selections. Hostess was very accomodating and able to expedite an outdoor table for us. Chef's tasting menu provided a great selection of flavors, all prepared very well and meeting the menu description. Server 'Denzel' was prompt and helpful.
A great people watching spot on the terrace.
Would not recommend this restaurant. Service was poor. The server almost slammed down our first 2 dishes. Had to go to the bar to pay after being ignored.
Saturday night- Great food, very good entertainment: acoustic guitar, singer and flamenco dancer were great
Out of town visitors loved the convivial atmosphere with the Flamenco show.
Great experience. Exceptional food
Some of the food was very good (Oxtails). There signature dish (Paella) was terrible. Except for the perfect shrimp, the seafood was over cooked. Clams and mussels were as tough as rubber bands. Sausage had no character. It looked and tasted like vienna sausage from a can. Rice was crunchy.
The noise level inside the restaurant is unbearable and then they have a live band to increase the volume.
Don't go there.
We have eaten there many times and always enjoy the food. The last two times especially this time the service was not very good. Our server this time was uninterested in serving us
Restaurant was very noisy and hard to have a conversation. Server ( not the main waiter ) but the person who delivered the food was a bit rude. Outdoor may be better than indoor. Entertainment is very loud and not much to brag about.
Excellent food and delightful entertainment we all enjoyed our evening and will return
Great atmosphere and great dancers! Lack of good cocktails and poor service
Everything tasted delicious! Fantastic service. Nice place! We got the special which included several of their most popular tapas plus paella and after dinner drink. We also ordered sangria and it was yummy! Highly recommend!
Three of us went for dinner so we had a wide range of small plates. Each one topped the previous one! Preparation was perfect, service was informative and unobtrusive. Apparently many regulars, making people watching as entertaining as the food. This is a don't miss place.
Great tapas, good vibes and live music.
