Tapas On Main
So nice to have a number of different small plates to share. Lamb chops were perfectly done, and enough bread was served with the hummus to finish eating the dip. The Manchego cheese and apple empanada made a delicious dessert. Also nice to have a server who kept his distance and wasn't constantly hovering over the table asking how everything is. This place is always a consistently good meal.
I would hesitate to recommend Tapas on Main to a friend. The service was quite poor. Although we had a reservation, we had to wait for a table to open up, and the hosts were not apologetic by any means. We also were unable to find our waiter for long periods of time during our meal. When our appetizers were served, we were given no silverware, and it took us 15 minutes (!!!) to track someone down who could help us. We were checked on very few times during the evening, even though we wanted to continue to order drinks and dessert.
Found this place to be hit or miss. This past visit was a miss. Service was very slow. Drinks were slow. They had no Tempranillo, even though 2 kinds were on the menu and it was a Friday evening. Meat and cheese plate was great, as usual; however, it took an hour to come out. A meat and cheese plate took an hour! The rest of the dishes came out right after. Tenderloin tips were good. Pork belly was way overdone- hard/brittle and dry throughout. They brought us a new one that was much better, but still slightly overdone. Beet and arugula salad was fine- nothing special. We did have the nice seat in the window- more private than the rest of the restaurant. I would request that seat again, as it does get loud in there, due to the interior.
Tapas is my favorite restaurant. In fact, we eat often at the four restaurants in Bethlehem that are all owned by the same people (Tapas, Cachette, Urbano, and The Flying Egg). They are all excellent. I will also denote here that tonight’s visit was during Celtic Fest, meaning there was an unusual number of people in the downtown area, so perhaps Tapas was unusually busy.
The disappointment began when our request for a window table (made at the time I made the reservation), could t be honored. Ok. No big deal. We were both starving when we arrived, so when our waitress greeted is at 8:00, we immediately ordered their beef sticks and spinach dip so we would have something to eat while we peruses the rest of the menu. Our waitress did come back from time to time to ask if everything was alright, but never addressed the food we had t received. At 8:25, I replied “Fine. We just need some food.”. She smiled, but didn’t reply. On her next visit, at 8:39, I asked if the food was coming. There were tables seated long after we were who were e joying their dishes already, and busy or not, it’s ridiculous to wait 39 minutes for spinach dip and beef sticks. Her reply this time was that it could still be a while until the food was ready. This was the point at which I calmly said, “I’ll just take my check for the glass of wine and we’ll eat somewhere else”. She said she’d check the kitchen and came back quickly with our beef sticks. What a miracle that, under the threat of leaving, food could be delivered. I still can understand why the flatbread we ordered long after the beef sticks came out next (about ten minutes later), before, finally, the spinach dip came around 9. The beef sticks were over cooked (though not dramatically), and the flatbread had cold spots. If this were my first visit, it would likely have been my last. But being enamored of the place, I’m going to chalk this experience up for the outlier. No manager ever addressed us.
Food was good. Service was really slow. It was a Saturday night with a festival in town but they should have planned for that better. The least they could have done was comped us a drink for the long wait. I’d go again for the food, but on a weeknight.
A little slow service but food was absolutely worth it!
Magda was an excellent waitress! Food was delish, found good value for the money and all dishes were well prepared and delivered on time. A visit is money well spent.
Everything was amazing. We sat outside. Perfect weather. Waitress was awesome. 😁 LOVE TAPAS. 😋
Everything was great. The food was amazing. Sat outside the weather was perfect. Will definitely be coming back.
We loved it!! Thank you!
Delicious and fun. Situated in downtown Historic Bethlehem it is worth the trip. Everything is fresh!
If you want to sit outside, call after you reserve your table. They said that they never knew of was an option. Tables on side street and uncomfortable as to sit on front of the restaurant.
Even though we had a reservation for the dining room we were seated at a small hi top in the bar next to the kitchen door. When we inquired if there were other tables available- we got a flat “no” and the hostess turned and walked away. The food looked and tasted as if it was made days ago and reheated several times before it was served to us. This was our third time eating here. The first two times were excellent. This was extremely disappointing and it will be a long while (if ever) before we go back.
We split the chicken enchiladas which were delicious! I had the beef tips-- wonderful! My friend had the lamb chops and said they were great-- however, they came with a fig sauce and the waitress did not bring it out with the order--by the time she brought it out my friend was almost done with the meat, which was a shame because she said it was also very good.
The dining experience was great as a whole. I was not a fan of the fact that there was no table cloth as the table was just a bare wood piece. Service was very nice, the gentleman that we had was extremely helpful and gave an amazing explanation of the menu. A little pricey but it is a nice place to go if you want to have a night out.
Love the "French" room. Bacon wrapped dates are really good. I noticed we could easily hear one another talk, which is not usually the case at a restaurant. I always appreciate that.
Absolutely loved our server Magda! Great dinner, very nice atmosphere.
First time visiting in a while as I moved away from Bethlehem. Food as good as it has always been, as was the service. The meat Paella was especially good. I had expected to see some new items on the menu, as it’s been 3 years since my last visit, but it seemed very much the same ...not a complaint, just an observation. An enjoyable meal with my family and we will be back.
Had a wonderful evening with a friend. Food was delicious. Service was exceptional. Perfect night to dine outside.
It was ok, the drinks were decent. Mule was watered down. Have had better tapas.
My wife and I have been going to Tapas for years. We had our first date there and got engaged there. We go on each of our anniversaries (first date and engagement). I have to say this is the first time I have been disappointed. We got the blood orange sangria which is always good. We started with the cheese and salami plate as and appetizer. I have to say I don't think you could cut the cheese any thinner. You could see through it.
We ordered the calamari and the mussels with chorizo and asked for bread instead of the French fries they serve in order to soak up the sauce with the mussels. The calamari came out overcooked and cold. The mussel and chorizo was good but it came with about 6 or 7 crostini's and almost half of the mussels didn't even have mussel in them just empty shells.
I seriously am going to rethink returning which is unfortunate since we've had a lot of good memories there.
I enjoyed my experience except the menu I was given was dirty with something sticky. It got on my hands which was unpleasant.
Great food choices all with a different twist. Unique flavors and taste. Satifyingly great
Been to Tapas once in the past and liked enough to come back. It was a busy Thursday night, yet we had excellent service. Food was good, some interesting choices. As for ambiance, first time we visited was earlier in the day and we liked the decor...this time, found the dim lightening to be a bit too dim, and from what you could see, the place is beginning to look a little tired. The wood table tops are quite worn and don't give the feeling of a clean surface. Other than that you were quite pleased with our dinner & with the service received.
Not sure if it was post Musikfest or what but the food was awful. Calamari was hard as a rock and flavorless. Pork Belly was dry and manchengo cheese was soft...although it's not a soft cheese. I'll be waiting awhile to go back.
Went during a visit to Musikfest 2019. The food was delicious. We ordered a Paella Palomino (primarily seafood) and a calamari tapa; and had leftovers. Our server, Jay, was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, and swift. He shared what the popular items were across the menu with ease and accommodating with suggesting that we could order more mid-meal to help us decide what might be the “right amount of food” for us when we expressed concern about not wanting to over or under order for our level of hunger.
Overall, we were very happy with our experience. The value was pretty amazing considering our bill was less than $40 for two people; and we had leftovers, too!
The only (minor) downside was that it was difficult to hold a conversation due to the noise level—which if it were during a non-festival event—could potentially be different.
We had the leftovers today with added seafood and it was delish! Would totally go back during a future visit. Highly recommend.
I had been there before and I wanted to celebrate my second wedding anniversary and to show my Italian husband that Tapas was something different but good. The server was really nice but the food wasn’t. We ordered one Paella Palomino and one vegetarian Paella. They both tasted the same even though there were supposed to be different and we were under the impression that the rice was pre-cooked.
I have had paella in Spain and it is completely different to the one we ate at your restaurant; I wasn’t expecting the same but at least something good. My husband’s steak was good though.
First time at Tapas for a birthday celebration. We were seated in a wonderful spot and our server, Magda, was wonderful. We loved the food she recommended and, of course, the Sangria. We will definitely go back.
The food and service was awesome. Every dish was super. Loved the beet salad, eggplant balls and every other dish. Wish we didn't live so far in Georgia.
Everything was great. Food, sangria, service: Susie was our server and she was amazing. We had a great time.
Food was ok. Some stuff like the Chicken Empanadas were really good. Other things like the hummus were just ok. Service wasn’t great at all. Servers like to socialize with each other more then help the customers. Asked for extra pita which arrived after everything was done. Server seemed annoyed when we said didn’t need it anymore.
The food was excellent and the service spectacular. Can’t wait to go back.
Overall great! We come here often. Ordered the hummus app and asked for both pita and veggies, had to ask for more veggies (3 little carrots and celery for 4 ppl?!) they were out of several sangrias which was disappointing but the pear sangria special was great.
Bench along the wall was uncomfortable. Anisha our server was great. Gin martini was average. Food was mostly good. Pollo empanadas were not good. tasted like what you get in grocery frozen section. The experience was fun.
Excellent dining option in the heart of downtown Bethlehem. They have a relaxing mood-lit/intimate dining room.
Unique and diverse drink and food menu. You can also order from their other, connected restaurant, Cachette Bistro & Creperie (an excellent dessert option!).
Another great dining experience at Tapas. Food was delicious and great service. Truffle fries are to die for! Eggplant meatballs, garlic shrimp, paella were so good! Highly recommend.
Good food good drinks! Starting to show it’s age . Good basics spot .
Great place for tapas and sangria. Staff was attentive and enjoyed ourselves very much at this restaurant. Would definitely recommend this place to others.
Could only pick 1 option but all the others fit too. Just an overall great tasting entrees and a good ambience inside and out. definitely going back
