Everything on our menu is made from scratch, with love. At Tapalaya we have our own farm in West Linn, OR that supplies us with wonderful seasonal ingredients. The plates of food are small to medium sized but rich and full of flavor, perfect for sharing and pairing. Menu items highlights include Crawfish Anh Luu, Jambalaya, Turmeric Red Beans and Rice, Blackened Octopus, and Beignets.
Join us at Tapalaya for Live Music every Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday from 6pm to 9pm and Saturday brunch 11am-2pm.
Always like coming home. We brought two Southern visitors to enjoy the food and the music of Reggie Houston. They loved it, right down to the beignets!
Amazing brunch here - definitely a must visit restaurant in Portland, and obvious why they are on Eaters brunch list. Bread pudding French toast is the best, and their hash with blackened catfish was also incredible.
The food here is very good for starters. It's a great fusion of New Orleans and Vietnamese food. Good service and drinks. The brunch is excellent. The owner is super nice. I very much recommend eating here!!
Food was very good. Interesting variation on Cajun food. Happy hour was really good and drink prices very reasonable.
The atmosphere was cute but the brunch food was meh. The coffee was not great and was $3 which is pricey for crappy diner coffee. My boyfriend had the pulled pork Benedict and it was nothing special. I had the fried oyster hash. The oysters were not fresh and just eating one made me sick for the rest of the day. The potatoes were under seasoned. Would not recommend for brunch.
Great New Orleans cuisine. Gumbo was the best
Great food - sorry to see Tapalaya close! Everyone needs to come here and eat in the next few weeks!
My favorite place for weekend brunch. I love the food and service, plus the acoustic guitar music is a huge plus for us.
Wish we had found this place before now, since it is closing at the end of the year. Hope someone buys it and keeps this amazing menu! It was terrific!
I so enjoyed the food. The shrimp in the daily Tapas (3) when we went was to die for. I cannot wait to go back and have the Jambalaya.
The waitress was super friendly and helpful.
I recommend Tapalaya to everyone!! I absolutely love their food, drinks, and overall vibe.
Great food and drinks, cool laid-back atmosphere, friendly and attentive service.
Always our favorite go-to!
The food was delicious (I tried the fried tofu and veggie jambalaya). The music was really chill, and the lighting was dim which made it feel comfy.
Reggie Houston is very special and the food is excellent
Menu keeps evolving towards Asian flavors, while maintaining the base southern flavors - mostly the sauces. No complaints, but traditional southern style sauces are still available upon request.
Not much flavor to the food the service and cocktails where good can’t believe a fried seafood plate with 2 catfish 3 oysters and 4 shrimp was $30 and soooooo bland
We were in town to see our daughter and husband. They took us to Tapalaya for Saturday Brunch. It was hands down, our favorite place all weekend. The Shrimp and Grits was creamy with just a hint of heat. Our daughter had the Brisket Benedict and finished the whole entree! Fabulous food. Run don’t walk to Tapalaya!
Really tasty combinations. I need to go back to try more delicious plates!
Disappointing cajun fusion. Julep cocktail was sweet and bland. Tried gumbo, appetizers and the Crawfish. None of them had the electrifying spicy taste I am used to from Creole food in New Orleans.
delicious and unique menu - we were there for brunch and plan on returning to try the dinner menu. service was wonderful, they have a guitarist/vocalist during Sunday brunch who was really good!
this is a restaurant is a great find - can't recommend it enough:)
Such a great neighborhood find. Food yummy & interesting combination.
Returned to Tapalaya again for another delicious experince
It's always a great meal and a fun time when dining at Tapalaya. Friends ask me for recommendations of what to order but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu!
Great atmosphere, delicious food and drinks! What a great spot!
We regularly dine at Tapalaya and are never disappointed. On this visit, we had the crawfish etoufee nachos (always perfection!), the radicchio caesar, and the edamame caviar. All lovely. Service was friendly and efficient and drinks were very good. We are looking forward to our next visit to Tapalaya!
We had a nice time, and came away impressed by what they had to offer. We started with the gumbo. Had good flavor (I like mine with a little kick), but it was served luke warm at best. My wife had fried chicken dinner (but the substituted the catfish). She loved that and the rice beans and rice. I had the jambalaya which was decent, but again lacked kick. When you say Cajun I expect a little kick. The major treat was the corn muffin....???....I know but the were really good. I am usually not a muffin guy, but this was the exception. As for the service. Our guy was outstanding and attentive. Although he was running back and forth he was never short and always courteous. We have already told family and friends they should try it.
We had a great experience on my wife’s first Mother’s Day. Excellent food and brunch cocktails...we definitely have plans to return soon.
The food that was good was really, really good - amazing biscuits, eggs benedict, and more. However, some things were pretty bad - the chicken soup was way too salty and the kid's french toast had a strong bourbon flavor which I loved but most kids, including my own, would not like.
Beignets were heavy and doughy. Fried chicken had little flavor. Grits were clumpy and greasy
Tapalaya was nice, though it was expensive for the quality/portion size. The edamame with garlic and chilli oil was good. The pot stickers were kind of too meaty for us, as the filling was all meat. The kids 'popcorn' chicken was nice chunks of juicy chicken well prepared, though it was disappointing that the only vegetable on offer was greens, which my kids won't eat. The fried chicken was okay and the beef medallions were tasty, though too rare for me.
Amazing food! Great ambience. If you’re looking for excellent creole food with a Vietnamese twist look no further. Brunch was outstanding.
Music was good but too loud. Suggest not to use a mike....
One of my favorite Portland gems! Wonderful food, great prices, fun servers.
Casual, fun and a little visit to New Orleans with a twist.
Never had a meal I couldn’t rave about. Chef is at the top of her game!
While tasty, the dining month portions were tiny and did not represent a high value distinct from ordering food off the regular menu. Spent $66 plus tip and left still hungry.
Good food, good experience. I don’t know why I haven’t been there before but I will be going back!!
The food was amazing we went for Portland dinning month. I’ve been to New Orleans and the food reminded me of but with a Vietnamese twist.
