Tap & Barrel • Olympic Village Ratings and Reviews
The Tap and Barrel is great and has been since it opened. The only down side was the reservation system and requesting a table with shade or an umbrella being entirely overlooked. Getting seated was also a challenge for the 4 people at the front, as I was the second in my party they just pointed to the patio...pretty sad when everything else is amazing there
We made reservations so we could sit on the patio. There was a long line up and we were told by the hostess we had to sit inside. Once we were seated, we asked for the Manager and she moved us outside to the upstairs patio. Great service since I believe when you make reservations, you should have your pick of seating.
Nothing special. My salmon benny was small and priced more than local restaurant. Keg still makes the best caesars, this one was fishy tasting and the spice rim was only on a quarter of the glass and not great.
Waitress was great :)
Would I go back, probably as its a convenient and in the summer you can sit outside.
We chose this restaurant because it was close to the show we were going to. It was a wet night so was apprehensive when we were shown to our table on the enclosed patio but there were very good heaters so no problem. Took a while to get some water for our table. Others arriving after us had some before we did but other than that service was good and attentive without being too much. We both chose the same salad with grains which was very good and filling. Mine had salmon added and it was cooked well.
I would say that this is more of a pub than restaurant but overall it was a good experience. On a dry evening it would have a good view towards BC Place and the surrounding waterfront from the patio. I would return another time.
It was my first time to this Restaurant. The Food and Service was great. The Upstairs Seating had a beautiful view. Will definitely grab that seat next time. The Seats were comfortable and it was perfect to check out the Game. Will definitely be back. Thank you. Huggies.
Food and service were awesome. Sweat up a storm with the out door heat lamps. Asked if they could switch ours off. They said "sure". Never followed through. Guy who said he'ed turn off the lamps never made direct eye contact with us the rest of the night. Was funny. Wife and i made a joke of it. And yes we could have asked again but didn't want to make a stink. I'd still go back, especially if I want a simulation of a hot summers day ;)
Terrific ambiance and great service, however if the food sucks, the review is poor. I've now eaten 5-6 times at various T n B's and the food is consistently between poor and fair. The pad thai is horrible, and my last meal was fish n chips. Two soggy battered pieces of flavourless cod dumped onto a small portion of fries, so the fries were soggy.
We were at the Tap and Barrel for a pre-theatre lunch. The Olympic village location is only a few blocks walk to the Arts Club BMO Theatre. The upstairs dining area was closed so we had to sit either outside in the enclosed patio or sit at a high table with stools in the bar area. We chose the patio because some people in our group are not comfortable on stools. The food was okay; I have had better Pad Thai. Other meals were reportedly 'good'. This would be a great location in the summer but not so special in the winter.
We live in the area and come often.
Service is always great with a great team there. My daughter go on to the Nanaimo jar sadly. Great selection and look after kids well with a superb patio one of the best in vancouver. Great for watching the world go by on the sea wall.
Attended Tap & Barrel on our way to a concert at Rogers Arena. Thought we'd try it due to the close proximity to the arena. We were surprised and delighted by the great food and service. Patio has a terrific view of False Creek right beside a walking / riding path - great for people watching. The only suggestion I have is to turn all the tables on the patio by 45 degrees so everyone seated can better enjoy the view. Loved this place - will definitely return!
Food was good, I had steak and fries and it was tasty. Service could have been better. The Hostess (2 of them) were hardly helpful or friendly. I reserved through Open Table for a business lunch. My guests had arrived and been seated. I arrived at 12.05 and asked for my table. They said I had no booking! I guess they deleted the booking when half the party arrived and then could not recall the name. Unprofessional. I walked around to find my guests. Would not have worked if it were a first business meeting!!
Also, when the sun moved over to where we sat, not one staff - many walking around very importantly with ear pieces! - walked over to ask if we wanted an umbrella. Oh well... the New Gen folks.
Our group of 8 had a great time together and enjoyed sitting in a comfy corner couch area which took up a big chunk of the top deck patio. Only problem was that a bunch of us were blinded to the point of tears by the sun but they would not put the sun umbrella up over our area. Four different people in our group asked our server repeatedly but we were told that the manager said "no, the sun was going to go down soon." We'd been asking since 5:10 and the sun had just set when we left around 8:00 !! ... very very very weird customer service!
First time I came here was a Sunday, my friend and I sat upstairs on the patio. I was very happy that the hostess was able to accommodate my request "outdoor patio, but out of the sun"! Haha. Second time was a weekday, unfortunately their upstairs was not open. Anyways, upstairs/downstairs does not matter because their service, food, and quality was consistent. I really enjoyed their PB&J Burger. I highly recommend it! Oh, remember to pair it up with their house salad! Truly enjoyed every (daytime) experience here. Will come back and try again in the evening. I'm sure no matter what time of the day, their amazing view alone is worth the visit.
Reserved two weeks in advance for daughter's 24th birthday dinner. Reservation information said patio unreservable and that you had to request it. We didn't want patio, so all should have been fine. Hostess stuck us out there, instead of giving us our reserved inside table. Our thinking is that my husband and I looked too old to fit in with the hip crowd inside. Haywire Pinot Noir came mixed with their rose by mistake and was dreadful! Why didn't they just accept their mistake and call it spillage? Yuck! Arugula and mushroom pizza consisted of a small mountain of arugula! At least that was easy to fix, but pretty ridiculous. Thankfully the three of us found these antics quite humourous and did not let this unfortunate and overpriced restaurant experience spoil our fun.
Although our server was absolutely excellent, I have to say that we were disappointed in the food. Although our shared appetizer of hummus, olives and pita bread was delicious, the main courses did not fare as well. My dining companion's fish (of the fish and chips selection) was unfortunately coated in thick batter which was simply sodden in grease. Our server very kindly took the fish back and had a fresh order made. The second attempt was somewhat better but still more greasy that it should be. He ate the fish but left the batter for compost. My salmon and quinoa salad was acceptable. The wedge of west coast smoked salmon was strongly smoked and salty on the thin side but got much better on the thicker side. We did very much appreciate the interesting selection of tasty beers. I'd return for beer and snacks but not for dinner.
We had awesome service the night I was there with friends; friendly and professional without being overbearing, many visits, prompt attention and checking in that all was okay. We all enjoyed our meals (particularly the Mac 'n Cheese with mushroom & tomato) and the wine before live theatre a block away.
Our only criticism is the stools, which look cool, but are pretty uncomfortable. We all said it's good we're only staying for a quick bite, but a longer evening of drinking wine would have been unpleasant.
