Tantra Restaurant & Lounge - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
It's not that I would not recommend it... I think it's just not ready to be a dinner spot.. A late night dinner spot with party to follow yes .... But not for the 8.30pm dinner crowd... The 10.30 dinner crown will be happy here.
Food was good and service was charming and friendly. Do not fault it for anything just feel it lacks a bit if warmth at dinner time.... Decor is absolutely fabulous though... Maybe the lighting? Hope they are successful.
I came here last year and everything was perfect, so expetations were high this time. But it was nothing special. I asked for a Chianti and it took 15 minutes for the waitress to tell me they didn't have it. And she didn't offer an option. The meat was great, but for $109 (just the entrée), you can't expect less then perfection. The restaurant is famous for its Monday's after-dinner party, but this time it was half empty. Overall, just average.
I recommend the Love Apple (tomato, goat cheese), King Salmon, and Grilled eggplant side. Each dish had the right amount of spices and umami. The meal was one of the best I've had in Miami. The restaurant is great for a romantic meal: dimly lit, quiet and excellent service. Dinner music was a bit odd... Indian/emo. The restaurant turns into a dance club at night after 11pm... but the place doesn't fill out until 12am so waiting after dinner was awkward. They play a mix of hip-hop/dance and hispanic/salsa music which was weird to switch between since a lot of people stopped dancing when it switched. It's a few blocks away from the main streets and the sidewalks nearby have a homeless stench. Also the exterior looks old and poorly painted.
Our experience at Tantra was somewhat of a let-down. The food overall was good but the service was strange and especially slow. Our waitress was either new or clearly didn't have a clue about serving tables. She came back after the first course was served to ask what we ordered for the main courses. (?). Then she explained what foie gras and prawns were to us, as if we had never eaten out. Strangely she provided her opinion on both options telling us "it wasn't her preference". Overall the restaurant is beautiful but the atmosphere is ruined when you look up at the tacky TV and see strip-joint type pictures. Sexy to me, isn't having to show it all off. When I have a $40 steak, I'd prefer to see only that piece of meat in front of me.
Had an amazing New Year's Eve meal and post meal dance party. My only gripe was the service was very slow. It took over an hour for our meals and we saw people who sat down after us get their food first. By the time we got our food it was 15 minutes until midnight. We wanted to order dessert but the dance party started at midnight and we just got too distracted by then. Would have been nice to have more time to eat and relax before the countdown.
All the food was beyond amazing. One of the most decadent meals I've had in a long while. I had the lobster and truffle risotto which were beautifully served and the flavors were spot on. My friend had the sea bass. I almost had food envy when I had a bite of her meal.
I'd definitely recommen
This was our New Years eve dinner place. Athmosphere and service was very promising but the air conditioning was too powerful. It was cold in there! I had to say also that I expected little more from the food with that prices. Overall it was a good restaurang but it could have been much better.
WAITER DINT KNOW MENU WELL, WE ASKED FOR CHEF, HE CAME, WE EXPLAINED 4 IN MY GROUP ARE VEGETARIANS, HE OFFERED PLATER OF ROASTED VEGGIE, CHICK PEAS AND RICE, ONE 8 YR OLD WANTED A VEGGIE WRAP WITH LETTUCE, ETC., CHEF SAID WILL WRAP IN FLAT BREAD , WE SAID OK, AND ALSO WE ORDERED 3 SEA BASS, & TOLD HIM WE DONT WANT ANY OIL, BUTTER ANYTHING, CHEF SAID OK , IT CAME FULL OF OIL, WRAP WAS HORRIBLE AND WAS NOT CONSUMED, 3 VEGGIE DISHES RICE WAS NOT IN THE PLATE, WHEN ASKED WAITER BROUGHT RICE AND CHARGED EXTRA, WE WANTED TO TALK TO THE MANGER, AND COULD NOT BE FOUND, OUR RESERVATION WAS AT 8 PM, RESTAURANT WAS EMPTY, AFTER AN HOUR WE SAW ONE COUPLE CAME TO DINE AND ANOTHER TABLE IN ANOTHER SECTION, OVER CHARGED AND DINT EVEN CARE TO CORRECT BILL
Visiting from out of town on a Thursday night. Drinks, food, concept and service were all great at Tantra . . . . just expected a bit more of a bar scene. Ended up with a private, romantic dinner instead. We'll plan to come back on a Saturday or "Classic Monday" for the club experience.
They had a Zagat sign from 2007, which is the last time I think we were here. Looks like same place from 5 years ago. Felt stale in terms of ambiance. Food was really disappointing. Spice menu left a lot to be desired although sounded great on paper. Drinks were best part of meal. Probably time for a new direction for this place
my girlfriends and i decide to tryout the Miami spice at Tantra. it was our first time there. the waiter was friendly, helpful and unbelievable wonderful service. the appetizer and dessert. wowed the whole table. the taste, texture, and flavor. but the main courses was nice. very romantic restaurant.
A bit "hidden away" off the "beaten path" in the South Beach area. Great interior and ambiance. Nice place to go for a quiet, romantic evening. Service was excellent, though only 2 tables present while we were there. Portions on the smaller side, but taste was very good. A bit pricey, but would go back for a special occasion.
