Long described as a hidden treasure, Tantalum in Long Beach, CA offers up a fusion of New Californian cuisine along with Asian influences. The menu is eclectic and complex, and the setting is remarkably chic and inspired by the islands of Indonesia. There is a large and welcoming bar area with great views as well.
Guests at Tantalum can enjoy brunch options as well as lunch, dinner and happy hour. If you crave a sweet treat, there is an extensive dessert and cocktail menu. There is also a scotch whiskey menu to enjoy as well. Dining at Tantalum means savoring appetizers like truffle mac and cheese or yakiniku calamari. There are hearty soups and salads, wok prepared dishes, sliders and many fish and meat dishes too.
The food was fantastic. However, it was much noisier than I had expected. From the website and the decor, I expected it to be a quiet, peaceful, kind of meditative place. Boy was I wrong! The bar was hopping! The band, although very good, was very loud! And the restaurant itself was super loud. I took my husband there for his birthday. I was expecting a high class romantic restaurant. But we couldn't even hear each other speak, so he moved across the table to sit next to me instead of across from me. For that reason, I think it's a great restaurant for a big party or casual evening with friends. But it was not the ideal place for a romantic, birthday dinner. Great food and drinks though! And the view of the Marina is very nice. Also, although I had mentioned my husbands birthday when I made the reservation online, the waitress did not acknowledge his birthday in any way. Maybe she didn't get the message. That was fine. But I was surprised by that. Like I said - fantastic food! It's just good to know what you're getting into in terms of the environment and noise level.
Made a reservation a week ahead & asked for a view table . Got there & table was by entrance with NO view , our server hardly paid attention to us, our drinks & food took forever . Waay too loud could hardly hear what my partner was saying right across from eachother.
Great spot year round
I grabbed brunch with a friend here last Sunday. This place has amazing views. We were able to grab a table by the windows. We were able to see the marina and water goer go by. Food was good The mimosas were $3 a glass. Not to bad but it adds up. I would definitely eat here again. =D
A friend recommended this restaurant, so my boyfriend and I went for our anniversary. The setting was beautiful and the ambiance was fitting. I suggest going during sunset. Watching the light hit the water was amazing and very romantic.
Food was Fricking top notch
We ate at Tantalum to celebrate my daughter's graduation from Graduate School. She lives in Long Beach, and had not been here before. Our waiter was excellent, and our table was situated in the back where we had a nice water view.
Everyone was very happy with their meals, the wine and specialty drinks were also great!
We had a fabulous night!
The view, the decor, all, bring a feeling of eating at a luxury vacation hideaway. The brussel sprouts "tantalizer" was delicious, and the portion more than adequate for 4 people. With bacon-wrapped scallops, pad thai, truffle mac & cheese, and a burger, our meal was well-rounded. For dessert, the Fondue seduction was more than enough, but we added the banana topped brass monkey, which was somewhat of a let down. Overall it was a great experience. The one disappointing spot in the service was that we were celebrating a birthday, and 2 of our party mentioned it to our server upon their arrival, and I believe to the hostess. Throughout dinner and when offering dessert, nothing was mentioned. Even if they did not have a "birthday offering" it would have been nice to say "happy birthday" at least once, but it was not included in the final goodbye. 3 cocktails, 3 appetizers ( one guest likes appetizers as entrees, side salad, 3 entrees, and 2 desserts, the bill was close to $200. Worthy experience.
The ambiance, and views make for a great venue for a date. They do have a great happy hour so the restaurant is lively and live music. The food was tasty. I ordered the fish special of the day which was a yellow tail dish. It was very good. My girlfriend ate the Mahi Mahi. She wasn't crazy about it, but liked it so so. For dessert we shared their version of the Creme Brulee..called the Brass Monkey. It was very good. I would recommend this restaurant for happy hour, live music, and great views.
The food and service was excellent
I had a phenomenal salad- chicken was well seasoned and the portion was just right. My guest had eggs Benedict and they were also perfect!
Great vibe, food and drinks were delicious, and service was great
Bad service from our waiter. Otherwise I would of given it 4/5 stars.
We were so happy to find what we thought was a gem of a restaurant hidden in the corner of a Long Beach mini mall.
The view at sunset was hard to beat and the place was just jumping the night before mothers day.
Calamari appetizers were just great , but were finished before our drink order arrived. We wanted to take our time , have a few drinks order dinner and wine for an impressive business client. Instead we were rushed, the waitress timing was poor as the main course arrived as did the second round of drinks. The wine arrived at the end of the meal, we ordered a nice bottle of Duckhorn and ended up pouring it ourselves. The waitress was obviously swamped and the place was understaffed for a busy Saturday night. The fillets were under cooked and accompanied by a wine reduction sauce that was way too salty.
There was no point in complaining , it was actually embarrassing. The waitress was on to her next large group and had no clue that we were unhappy. Overall this might be a great place to kick back with drinks and appetizers in the bar area. But the average food and mediocre service accompanied by a $400 check , make this a place I would not visit again in a hurry. Pity.
Great there's plenty of free parking, can pick something up at the grocery store, and have a great dinner with a wonderful view!!
VIEW VERY NICE
SERVICE SLOW AND INADEQUATE
THINGS ORDERED NOT DELIVERED
ICE TEA SPILLED ALL OVER ME AND NO COMPENSATION ON THE BILL
FOOD FAIR TO GOOD BUT SLOW IN ARRIVAL
Food, view, service were all great but the noise killed it. I have nothing against live music but when you have no separation or barrier from the bar, it detracts from the great dining experience.
Very enjoyable. Often the music is so loud during the dinner hours that you cannot have a conversation. This time was the exception with nice background music. The food was excellent, wait staff attentive. This was our third visit on a night they were having wine specials, and the third time they had "run out" of our first and second wine that we selected. At 6pm no less. They worked real hard to up-sell on a wine that was twice as much. By the way, we had the salmon, but it was the wine deal that smelled fishy.
Always a favorite! Never get tired of this place.
This is my second time to the restaurant and I plan to come again.
I have already recommended this restaurant!!
Elegant quiet ambience and excellent nouveau cuisine! Although we enjoy Long Beach's many informal dining choices, there are times when you want something a bit upscale. Tantalum is the best choice. It's a tad overpriced, most items being slightly more than even higher end Westside spots, but the setting is lovely and the food is beautifully plated and perfectly prepared.
Had a wonderful evening here on this very special occasion. Started off with the Strawberry Fields cocktail and it was so refreshing and delicious! My honey and I shared the flatbread and then each ordered the Kobe burger which was amazing but could have definitely split it because it was so filling! We just had to have dessert since we were celebrating 4 years together, and we decided on the dark chocolate lava cake and oh my! so good!! My evening ending with an amazing surprise, my wonderful boyfriend asked the band to bring me up on stage and proposed to me in front of everyone! of course I said yes! :) This memorable night is definitely one for the books!
I met a dear friend at Tantalum for lunch. The food was delicious. I had the Hoisen Chicken and my friend had the Salmon and would recommend both.
We shared the Bread Pudding dessert which was good and large enough to easily share. Dinner can be more noisy, but the view is lovely, the food is good and the decor is gorgeous.
Loved the Kobe sliders. The view is amazing and the band playing was fantastic!
Always great food, music and drinks!
The view and ambience for this place is very good. We were seated by the window, service was "fair". From the Happy Hour menu, we ordered the lettuce wraps (great taste and value) and edamame (great taste and value). One in our group ordered a Happy Hour Martini which she sent back. Everyone else ordered from the regular menu. We also ordered the calamari (huge portion, she liked it). Food, we got steak. 8oz with wasabi (taste was fine, but for the price, I could have gotten a better steak at Ruth's Chris for that money).
All in all, if you want to take your mate for a romantic atmosphere and great view, this is the place. Be prepared to pay for that view. If you are a foodie like I am, I don't recommend it.
Service, food and price were great.
Americana and Asian cuisine Fusion. Loved it! Will return next time I'm in town! A must try!!!
My wife and I visited Tantalum for the first time last weekend. Our excitement was met with a cool reception as the hostess appeared to be less than enthusiastic. We dine out a lot and have become accustomed to a smile and warm welcome (afterall, that's the first 'handshake' with the customer). Nevertheless, after we were seated, we were met by a cheery and smiling waitress. The food was par, but the waitress was forgetful and we ended up having to ask the busboy to fulfill a request since she was MIA once again.
Additionally, my online reservation requested a seat at a window if one was available. Miss Unhappy Hostess escorted us to a table right next to an open table next to the window. I asked if there was a problem with being seated next to the window, she replied "Oh, you can sit there if you want." The vibe from her was as if I reminded her of someone who had killed her dog!
Maybe this was an off day, but we won't be back.
The brunch menu was limited but absolutely delicious. The server was on point even when he was double sat. I will be coming back here!
The hostess that night were rude and food was extremely salty. But nice little area perhaps I would go again only for drinks.
Fun place average food. Be ready to shout at your dinner date.
They have a top notch chief which provides phenomenal food. Superb ambiance and great service.
NICE ROMANTIC PLACE A FEW YEARS AGO, NOW OVERRUN BY TACO BELL AND POPEYES
CUSTOMERS, EXTREMELY NOISY, WITH OBSCENITIES FLYING LEFT AND RIGHT ... AVOID !!!
Just a real cool, chill environment!!! The only reason I said the noise level was high was because there was a live band performing, which did an awesome job.
The three (3) of us were celebrating the end of audit season and filing of the 990 tax return. It is also a great spot (practically on the beautiful Long Beach marina water) to catch up, celebrate a anniversary, birthday, going away, etc. The live music is beyond amazing! We ordered about seven things and all the food was delicious! I would recommend this restaurant every day of the week and twice on Sunday! The customer service was also great. Need I say more?
The place had much 'swag' with energetic overtones. I WILL BE BACK, AND SOON!!
Maybe I just had an "off" night here...but my eyes could not adjust to the lighting that I felt like I was straining my eyes just to be able to see. We were seated in the "quieter" corner...so maybe it was just dimmer there. Food was ok. We ordered the fried rice, Mac and cheese, and short rib sliders. Mac and cheese was pretty basic...sliders were bomb. Ordered a mojito and it was just tooooo sweet so I only had 1 sip and wasted $10 . Service was average. It just seemed too expensive for the average food and drinks we had. However, I would still recommend the place for an evening out- it is a nice restaurant with pretty cool views. Just don't sit in the dark, dim corner.
Food was WAY too salty! I did not like the Brie crostini jam appetizer and the Buddha rice and fried tofu vegetable udon tasted like salt. My friend liked the miso soup and some fish dish he got but it was nothing to rave about. I wish I checked the website first because it was so loud from the band my ears started to hurt and triggered a migraine. Oh and the service was horrid, our server went MIA and there was nobody we could even flag down for help in our vicinity.
I enjoy Tatalums, the only thing that was a buzz kill was the nice kid that was running around and ended up taking a cookie off our plate. Food was great, drinks were amazing and the music was awesome!
we love this place, we were meeting friends, they arrived before we did and were holding 2 seats at the bar, they placed their drink order then 2 other people came and the bar tender, said that they could not hold seats, in a rudely way, my husband and I were parking, but she did not care, so the other 2 people took the seats and did not order a drink or food... not cool because I walked in as soon as the other 2 people took our spots, and we were drinking, plus had dinner reservations. at the end the other 2 people left and we got the seats back, the bar tender came and apologize for being so rude to us, after that everything went normal the drinks were really good and the food was outstanding. I would recommend this place.
