A true culinary experience. A legend before the west loop was the “west loop.” If you would like to be treated to some of the best flavors in the world and amazing service then stop by. I always go with omakase and you can mention any dislikes, allergies etc. everything is amazing and spectacular. Deserves a Michelin star if not two…just try it already.

The food was outstanding and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice date night or dinner with friends or family. Quiet, clean, and slightly hidden gem. Very attentive staff with personalized service. The staff made sure you had a great experience.

We had a fabulous experience at Tanoshii, and that’s what you are going for: a quality sushi experience that encompasses great service, timely execution, a chill vibe, and authentic while inventive sushi that maintains respect for tradition. David, our server, really knows his sushi and his sake. He was key to our experience that included ordering the Omakase… Omagoodness, it was a pricier option, but worth it!

We LOVE Tanoshii. We go frequently for their omakase and love the entire staff who work there - they are so attentive, kind and knowledgeable on the menu. We’ve gone to tons of sushi spots in Chicago and this is our favorite for so many reasons.

Love this place so much I would eat here everyday if I could. The rolls are fantastic. I come with family, friends and clients. Everyone is blown away by the unique flavor combinations. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Only great things to say about this wonderful establishment.

Food was good as it always has been. Vibe was subdued. We were on the early lunch side but place was pretty empty. People go support the west loop stalwarts.

I’ve been here a few times before & have ordered take out from here at least 20 times. However, this was the worst dining experience I’ve ever had in the city of Chicago. It took 25+ minutes for the host to bring us our menus & water after we were initially seated. It took an hour and 45 minutes for us to get our food, with no apologizes or excuse other than “sorry we’re slammed” - which was interesting considering the restaurant was at 50% occupancy. No one checked on us to see if we needed anything throughout this either. After my boyfriend who was paying for the bill politely complained to the manager in private was ANYTHING done. (He has never in his life “talked to a manager” - which should show how bad it got). The manager was very kind and apologetic and gave us some complimentary mochi for our friend’s birthday, and our two drinks compensated. If it weren’t for her, I would have completely cut this place off.

We love Tanoshii and have been going here fairly frequently for about five years since we moved to Chicago. Their omakase experience is always worth it, and while they certainly have the staple rolls, they always surprise us with something new since we’ve tried so many. The staff here is truly incredible and works so hard. Even our friends visiting from San Diego said this was the best and freshest fish they’d ever had. Highly recommend!

Tanoshii has become our go-to sushi restaurant because of the casual and cozy atmosphere but high quality of the food. One is also a lottery winner if Michelle is the server, although the servers work well with each other to provide continuous and efficient coverage of all of the tables. We just do Omakase now and don't even look at the menu, but the scallop, fatty tuna, and roll with shitake mushrooms and truffle oil are our favorites. When we made the reservation we included a note that this was a birthday dinner, and we were surprised with fresh mango and mochi ice cream desserts! We like to select the earlier times because it tends to be quieter at that time, but when we arrived, there was a large, energetic group that was having a great time and unfortunately, kept the noise level high during our visit. Michelle's attentiveness and the excellent food made up for it.

We always enjoy dining at Tanoshi. Everything is very fresh and delicious. (Their martinis tasty too.) Server Michelle is the best! Very happy they have reopened for lunch on Thursdays and Fridays.

We have gone to this restaurant for 2 years and every time it is amazing. David (our life-long waiter) remembered what we ordered since our initial visit. During our first visit he asked us what sushi we enjoyed and what we didn't like. He set out to customize the roles to our liking. It's been such a wonderful experience. Michelle (bar tender and waitress) makes the best drinks and provides equally amazing service. She researches drinks and comes up with suggestions based on our preferences. This is our go to sushi place.

Second time dining at Tanoshii and it is just as fabulous as the first time. All 4 of us had omakase and it was great! The chef makes very good rolls as well, had at least 8 of them and I don't even like rolls is how good they are!! Drinks are excellent as well, extensive sake and wine list as well as Japanese whiskeys - whatever you like, Tanoshii has it!
