Tanoshii - West Loop
Sushi was fantastic! Ask the wait staff of options not on the menu.
This is the best sushi in the city. The specialty chef’s choice rolls are amazing. You can 100% trust they will make every bite delicious.
I highly recommend trying the Sushi Mike specialty rolls, they were so good.
The hamachi Kama was awesome and saved the meal. Very tender and flavorful. The chef sushi was underwhelming and I was not a fan of not being able to specify what I loved or didn’t. And not sure what goes into the pricing. Was surprised our tuna etc sushi was on the higher end of the pricing.
Sushi I was floored by the quality
I highly recommend just going the Omakase route.
Decided to try this place, glad we did. Not an extensive menu, which for a modern sushi place, is unusual. Usually they are throwing the kitchen sink at you.
Affordable and some creative fun from the chef. We ordered 2 rolls, 1 custom roll, 4 types of sashimi, and 3 drinks and the bill was just over $100. Yay!!!
Would go back, however, the ambiance is not my fav ... did enjoy that it was quiet though.
Very good sushi, especially the signature rolls served omakase were excellent.
Hidden gem in west loop. Say no mushrooms bc you don’t want mushroom roll. Only get the mikes chefs rolls and a couple basic rolls. Gyoza was great too!
We tried the Omakase (chef’s choice) meal. It’s always fun to have the chef choose the menu, and the selections were very good. Nice mix of fish varieties and sauces / treatments. Maybe not the best value for money, but solid. Attentive waiter, though sometimes had to wait for him to be within sight / reachable. Very quiet, sat near the front. Seemed a bit more lively in back.
Service was weak. Server would disappear for long intervals.
The restaurant has a good vibe. Loved the exquisite food and tableware. The sashimis are absolutely amazing! We’ve also tried a chef’s special roll and it was one of the best I’ve had in Chicago.
I had been previously and was blown away. This time was good, but not great.
This sushi is ridiculously amazing. It’s not just fish and rice. The chefs artistically construct rolls like you’ve never dreamed of! And very accommodating to food restrictions. We had a truly awesome evening. Can’t recommend enough.
Great sushi. Great service. Great neighborhood spot. Can’t go wrong with this place. Hoping to come back often!
Great food and great service, will be going back again.
The sushi was delicious! Loved the Randolph Street!
This was a perfect place to catch up with old friends over some quality sushi and sake. The service was very helpful and the atmosphere was conducive to conversation. Both friends said they'd definitely be back. Thanks!
İ didn’t feel anything special about that place. Tried Omakase experience. Chef’s choice was pretty ordinary, nothing special: either taste or presentation. Table area is not cozy. Yes,pretty big distance among tables that gives you privacy, but no cozy feeling at all...
We had a wonderful time enjoying the Omakase offerings. The overall ambiance was perfect for a birthday date night.
Outstanding Omakase option, great service
Food was incredible but service was slow and inattentive - had to wave server down for even the most basic requests, he never checked on us after food was served, apps came out after mains, one persons food didn’t come until everyone else was served, bus boy was more helpful than server. But again - specialty roll was absolutely incredible, scallop appetizer was delicious, and fish was fresh
Great experience! Ordered the omakase and it was some of the most flavorful dishes we’ve ever eaten. Service was equally as great. Ambience/restaurant set up is a little lacking... as is the wine list - but overall great experience and we’ll be back.
Never disappointed in the quality of the fish or the incredible Chefs Choice. Amazing staff!
It was nice to have a low key place to eat sushi in the neighborhood. The food was fresh and the staff was very friendly even dealing with an allergy. Will definitely frequent this establishment when wanting a great dinner that’s not a production.
We were 15min late to our reservation and they still accommodated us. The butternut squash soup with lobster, scallops and mushroom and hamachi Kama was the best appetizers we ever had. The waiter recommended us to try the Sushi Mikes Special... amazing balanced umami flavors!
Will be returning again in the future
Great food and presentation, highly recommend!
Great sushi but not a hip West Loop restaurant if that is what you are looking for. Has the feel of a strip mall sushi joint. Food is very good, but more casual (brighter lights and booth seating) than most West Loop spots.
there is a "chef's special" option that is not on this menu or the online menu that is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING they basically make a custom roll for you based on your preferences. I would have tried this place a lot sooner if I had known about that.
Great service and delicious/ fantastic sushi! It is expensive, but worth it. The area we were, was very cold though.. I blame the location as it was near the exterior storefront, but I wished it was insulated better because my family had to keep their jackets on. (Our table wasn't next to the storefront system, offset about 5'...) Overall, great sushi (nigiri/sashimi/roll)!
I've been coming here for quite sometime already and I have to say that the food, service, and drinks are just always on point or beyond my expectations.
If nigiri is your fav, this place would make you walk out with a happy stomach. At Tanoshi, the chef only cut the fish by order for nigiri/sashimi, unlike most high volume sushi places.
I would highly recommended this spot to any high quality sushi lovers.
We live by this short saying "If it is Prrdictable it is Preventable." To say the least, we can predict great food with Sushi Chef Mike. We can prevent a bad meal by never leaving the best Sushi in Chicago.
Mike our server did a wonderful job. Thank uou for a great Valentine's day, xoxoxo!
Rolls we're good. Hot dishes were bland and wouldn't recommend.. we
I didn't think this was the best sushi I've ever had. I wish there was a menu of the special rolls instead of just allowing the chef to decide after telling your preferences. I didn't think my custom roll was that interesting. The noise level allowed good conversation.
The shiitake mushroom roll is heaven.
Service was slower but food was great and prices were good! Would totally go back
Incredible food, the chef’s choices were delicious
besides the server not taking our order for the first 20 min, everything else was great.
Great evening - John super helpful. Food outstanding. Really a nice evening.
