Tango Bistro Ratings and Reviews
I had put in a special request at booking and did get a call from the Tango Bistro two days before reservation to confirm and they said they could accommodate. When I arrived they knew nothing about it and could not accommodate and seemed disorganized. We waited about another 10 minutes standing and finally let to some basic seating. The service was extremely slow and food was not hot just barely warm. However the waiter was friendly and the taste of the food was ok. The steak was cooked perfect though. I knew the food would be expensive going in and that was ok as long as it was really good quality food and to be expected for the price. I have had many better meals at a lot less cost, in my experience with eating at nice restaurants in Calgary. Not sure if this was just an off night.
Outstanding. I have had much more expensive meals in the city, but, this was one of the best that I could recall. I had the whole Cornish hen, and my partner had the salmon. The salmon was juicy, crisp, refreshing, and a reasonable portion size. She has some allergies, and they were amazing at accommodating our needs.
The game hen was delightfully seasoned with an well paired starch and vegetable, leaving me full, and satisfied without being gourged.
The server was knowledgeable about the menus, and was able to recommend wines and pairing that would go together. Service was fast ( we waited about 10 minutes from ordering, athought we were not there durring peak times) and the food came hot, and juicy!
The ambiance was soft, quite, and respectful, with pairs or small groups at all the tables. Noise was perfect for a private conversation, or a night out. Lighting was soft, and made everything look more expensive than the prices would suggest.
While you can get some menus items over 100 dollars. Most people can expect to spend around 30 - 35 dollar per person for a meal with a drink. We opted for their Tuesday "all day happy hour" and had some of the most delicious oysters we have ever had. These people have their sourcing down to an art to be able to get such quality delicious ingredients.
I have no issue recommending Tango to family friends or colleagues for a special outing or a client meeting. We will be back again next year, and are already excited!
It’s been a while since our last visit. We sat over 15 minutes before I went to find our server. The food was great but then at the end the service fell off again. The over all time spent at the restaurant was almost 2.5 hours. I think has the server not been overwhelmed we would have cut this down to 90 minutes.
Great restaurant, great food, very poor service, we had food on the table before our first glass of wine arrived, the meal was finished when our 2nd glass of wine arrived. The waiter dropped off the wrong bill at our table it was for a $6 side dish our bill was $150 had to ask for it. Again great food you should try it I just hope you have better service
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The service was friendly and attentive. My wife and I shared
a salad that was enough for both of us, and we had the short ribs, which were fabulous. The prices were reasonable considering today's environment. We would recommend this restaurant
Instead of exchanging Christmas gifts my family decided to go out for dinner and drinks. Tango was above and beyond our expectations. Everything we had was delicious!! We all had bites of each other’s food and we’re in awe of it all. Our server Riley was wonderful as well. She even brought my sister a blanket noticing that she was cold from the draft of the back exit door being used. I highly recommend this restaurant.
We booked at Tango Bistro to have a welcome home celebration with out daughter who was just returning home from New Zealand after a year. It was raw bar night, which I had no idea when we booked but it was great. We love seafood so this didn't disappoint! We were a large group and the service was great and accommodating for us! The food was great and we would definitely return again. Thanks for a great meal, service and setting.
We enjoyed our meal and will go back. The table side preparation of the smoked old fashion was nice. Overall a very good meal. My only complaint would be how the meat was cut for the carnivore platter, a couple of the portions had significant inedible gristle. When paying top dollar for a total of 16oz I expect none to be wasted tableside.
I had the lobster dinner special and it was basically inedible. The clam chowder was milk thickened with cornstarch and not much else. The lobster was dry and we did not get any utensils to open the claws, the corn was overcooked and waterlogged and the baked potato was stale. I would not recommend this dish at all.
Unfortunately I hate writing negative reviews but if I can save anyone's time and money I would have to say tango is a place I would never go back to. Our server was absolutely horrible he didn't bring out our drinks Until our dinner was a done, thanfully for the other staff members that were assisting him bringing out the appetizer plates, and attending to our water or we would have been extremely dehydrated since our drinks didnt arrive.
Now the dinner- we started off with the clam chowder soup which was good definitely something I would not rave about, and out comes this cold small white dish off a lobster meal, The presentation of our dinner plate looked like we got it from a shelter/ prison (no joke) A teaspoon of what the call coleslaw, whith two bites of lobster, piece of well over cooked shrivelled corn, under cooked potatoe, and a cold stale biscuit on top.
There are where also other issues throughout the night.
With so many different restaurants to choose from save your money and dine somewhere else.
We were disappointed to find out that Tangos is no longer a tapas restaurant, which was why we were returning. Granted, it had apparently just celebrated a year since changing, so we obviously weren't regulars even when it was.
First, the service was excellent. I wish I took note of our server's name; he had definitely been there on one of our previous visits (a year+ prior). He was very helpful with the menu, especially when we had mentioned that we had come for a tapas experience, he pointed out items that had stayed on the menu, or what new menu items made for nice sharing.
We chose a few appies (seared scallops: delicious!), and shared the Gnocchi Ratatouille; I was a little disappointed in how little actual gnocchi there was in the dish, but the roasted vegetables were lovely.
I'd likely return again, but in no rush. Out of all of the incredible restaurants in Calgary, its unfortunate to have lost the charm of the tapas experience Tango once offered. Now I feel like they blend in with a sea of other good restaurants in the city. Still a very nice experience, though!
We had gone to Tango very excited to partake in the All You Can Eat Crab Boil, but it had been discontinued despite still being advertised as available. We were quite disappointed and instead ordered the Lobster Dinner (which was “coming soon” according to the website). The lobster was over cooked and the roe was off-putting for my children. The clam chowder was really good though.
We went for the first time since the menu was changed from tapas. We really enjoyed the new menu. I feel the new menu is slightly more expensive than the old menu, but there are still some more economical options which are also very delicious. We will definitely be back.
