About
Tamba's legendary chef is Daljeet Malik, New Delhi Native, wanted to open an authentic Indian restaurant that encompassed the foods she had from her travels with husband Sikender Lal Malik from Kashmir to the dhabas of Punjab and the northern mughlai cooking she received from culinary school in India.
Kebabs are the specialty of the house and they’re anything but typical. The signature dish is Gulauti Kebab and the Infamous butter chicken.

Typical Indian food place with good food and clean restaurant.
If waiter can give faster service would be nice and portions were bit smaller than other Indian restaurant that I have been in NYC.
A group of friends from out of town asked me to pick an Indian restaurant for a Friday (and last) night of NYC Restaurant Week. The reviews of Tamba were enticing, and the menu online looked great. It was also within walking distance of their hotel, just up Lexington Avenue. From the moment of our arrival, we were treated very kindly, and the food was spectacular. Among the top Indian dining experiences of my life. Thank you, Tamba!
I've lived in the Curry Hill area for a few years now and have never tried Tamba! I'm so mad that I didn't find this place earlier! Staff was friendly and totally accommodated our large table of 8. Food was so yummy! Best Indian in the neighborhood! Can't wait to go back!
We had Keema Samosas & Lasani Gobi (cauliflower in a terrific slightly spicy sauce). The samosas were some of the best ever -- a beautiful shell, firm but not crispy/greasy. My wife had Lamb Bhuna Hyderabadi entree --very tasty & well-seasoned, but not hot. I asked our waiter (the owner?) for goat & they brought a wonderful goat curry. The chardonnay was OK, not great. Red would have been a better choice with our seasoned food. With naan & rice, this was way too much food for one meal. (Heads up: they gave us one dish of rice -- good, but not really enough for the two mains -- and they charge for additional rice.) Prices are higher than most Indians we go to, but the food is better than most. All-in-all we highly recommend Tamba.
My husband and I went on a Groupon voucher for 2 glasses of wine, 2 entrees, rice and naan bread. Our host was very friendly and helpful with his recommendations. I had the chicken tikka masala and my husband ordered a lamb dish in an almond sauce. Both were excellent.
Dining at Tamba was an amazing experience. The lamb biryani had the right amount of spices and was cooked to perfection. Definately be back!!!
Went to Tamba for dinner, and it was like eating in a family's home. Staff was very gracious and attentive. Food was great and the staff unexpectedly gave us a complimentary desert at the end of the meal. Will definitely go back.
Although the food was good, I was somewhat unhappy with the bread. We ordered potato kulcha, and it arrived mostly charred. It was discouraging to have it black and burned. Also, the room was extremely hot, so much so that while I was fanning myself the manager came by to ask if he should turn the AC up. I asked him to please do that, but by then I was already soaked in perspiration.
I bought my partner here for his birthday, as he loves Indian food and overall I was happy. The food was very good, I had the Chicken Tandoori and he had a Lamb Jalfrezi, both of which were exactly the right amount of spice, flavour etc.
However, the service was a little slow. We did not get checked on at any point during the meal so if there had been a problem there would have been no way to flag it. A HUGE pet hate of mine is cold plates being brought out so we asked them if they would mind swapping these, which they did.
The wait time between ordering and the starters was unbearably long and as the entrees came out so quick afterwards I think they may have just cooked it all a once.
Overall, a solid 3/5 and for the food I would return
Every time I go to this restaurant , I enjoy it immensely. The food and service are excellent and it is reasonable. I am never disappointed.
Food was excellent, service was fair. Plan to spend a lot of time at the restaurant waiting for your server, waiting for your food, waiting for your check. Overall, it was worth the wait.
food delicious. owners seemed to have a difficult time dealing with the groupon coupon situation.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Tamba Indian Bar and Grill. The food was delicious especially dessert. Their rice pudding was the best rice pudding I had ever tasted! The waiter was very pleasant and made sure we were comfortable the whole time. I will say that if you make a reservation prior to going there, make sure you watch them actually mark your reservation as counted for. They failed to mark me down. I made sure to verify with them ahead of time and they assured me that my party was good, but later it showed that they never marked me down so the system here had me as a 'no show' and I didn't receive my points. It was a tedious process to have them correct it, but I would say that's my only complaint.
Solid indian food.
We went with another couple. Everybody loved their food which was tasty, and cooked to the level of spiciness requested. The service was very attentive, even devoted. They even threw in a couple items on the house. We were an older group and never had difficulty hearing our own conversation, a real treat! We sat a long time and were never rushed. I would try anything on the menu.
What a great Indian restaurant. Everytime I come to New York, I like to go to an Indian restaurant. The food at Tamba was excellent and reasonably priced, which was quite impressive for New York. The service was very good as well. I'd definitely return.
We went for dinner on Easter Sunday, and were blown away. I've tried what I thought was every Indian place on Lex, and certainly had my favorite. This place destroys that favorite...and might be the best Indian food I've had. We pretty much had the place to ourselves, and being the center of attention was a little weird, so we'll have to go back on a normal day (happily). We ordered Samosas, Shahi Korma, Tikka Masala, and a naan basket. Everything was cooked perfectly and carried the appropriate and specified level of spiciness. I'm so psyched to attack the leftovers in the fridge!
Bottom line: GO. NOW. If this place doesn't survive, I will be devastated! Support good Indian food!
The entrees were better than I expected. I would go back for the chicken kabab marinated in yogurt and mint and the lamb koshimi dish - yummy. The naan we ordered to, meat & cauliflower filled were pretty good too.
Very good southern Indian. Many of the Indian restaurants are vegetarian and/or have no liquor. Both liquor and meat!
the most expensive item, the Tamba Grill was awful. After waiting 45 min it came out lukewarm. The lamb was grisly and chewy. The 'prawns' were small cold and chewy. Oddly, another lower priced lamb stew type of entree had much better quality meat. Or maybe the sauce it was simmered in just made it seem better.
The Food was awesome and the plating was terrific. I wish the price of the items were more affordable - luckily i bought a discount coupon
The food was very good but the service was a bit slow considering ther was only one other table in use when we arrived.
Terrible service. Don't waste your money.
Fairly standard Indian fare, nothing to write home about. While billed as a "grill and bar" the bar was very small and right in the middle of the dining area. Service was so-so. Makes me long for E 6th St.
