Shaking beef was great as usual. Our guests enjoyed the rice dish with egg. Service was very good and understated. Brought one bottle of wine and that was properly handled. Asked for some hot sauce for one of the dishes and it appeared promptly.
Loved the green sauce and the calamari, always pleased with the food. Service was nice and polite. Always love it here.
Excellent food except for my entree which was just Too much salt....
All the rest is fantastic.
Very good food and service, nice place to have a conversation. sound absorbers on the wall really helps. Will come back
We tried Tamarine for a special birthday dinner and were unbelievably rushed through our meal. The waiter made it clear that we didn't order drinks and starters fast enough to suit him, but even so, we were finished with our main meal 45 minutes after being seated. We did order dessert, which added another few minutes, but we were paid and out the door in 1hr 15 min. It didn't feel special! The food was interesting and tasty, but the experience was spoiled by being rushed.
The quality of food is always consistent. We enjoyed the food, and the service was great. The tab for 3 for lunch without any alcohol was $120. That's $40 per person for lunch... not a place one can frequent casually.
I found the food to be exceptional, and the service equal... I bit pricey for some, but the quality of ingredients made it stand above your typical Vietnamese fare... Our group was for four, and each had enough to share our meals... It wasn't described as "Family Style," but definitely consider that concept when ordering... I rarely look at menu these days (I know, pretentious), and as the wait staff what to order based on what I feel like eating at the time... Our server Hector nailed it for me with the Sea Bass, and garlic noodles (their house specialty)... The four of us ate with a shared appetizer, four main dishes and three cocktails for $210! not a bad night
Great food. Slow service.
Our server Brandon was a dream, and you can't beat gluten free calamari! :)-
This place never disappoints me. Food Quality and service is top notch. Love the lychee martini. Vegetarians have great options.
Wine by the glass on small pour size - more like one flight
Tamarine's cuisine and service never misses a beat. We celebrated my dad's 75th birthday and they did everything possible to make it a special occasion. First, they put us at one of the best plush tables with a great view of the restaurants electric scene. Second, they had a birthday card plus homemade cookies wrapped in a small box for him. Finally, they brought a dessert out with candle. Nice touches that made the experience a great one. By the way, the shaking beef and clay pot cod remain wonderfully flavorful and tasty dishes. The Brewer-Clifton Pinot noir put a cap on the cuisine. Steve was an attentive and personable server whom we enjoyed very much. Tamarine will continue to remain on the top list,
I went here with my sister for a fancy dinner, and it was amazing. The food was delicious, HIGHLY recommend the empress rice--too good. The service was great. My sister accidentally ordered the wrong dish and they brought out a completely new and different one in less than 10 minutes. Also the food comes really quickly which is good and uncommon for fancy resteraunts. Only negative: it's pretty expensive- thanks mom and dad for paying!!
I love coming here. The atmosphere is modern and cozy. The food is always delicious.
We enjoyed a delicious family meal at Tamarine, finishing our holiday in the US and time together with our Stanford student son. It was a fitting celebration. The service was attentive and pleasant, from seating us at a quiet table as requested, to plenty of explanation for the special dishes on offer and suggestions about combinations and sizes of dishes. The food was fresh, beautifully presented and full of new tastes for us. The shrimps were a firm favourite!
Tamarine food good but not great. The service slipping our waiter seemed too busy to take care of us. It used to be great but now it is coasting on its past repute.
Food was delicious!
but i felt like the service was being rushed.
waiter came by so many times askng if we were done eating, but we were still eating.
and as soon as we put our utencils down, they just rushed into clearing the table as soon as possible.
Nice artwork. food was great! Felt like we were having dinner with the two men next to us. Tables were too close. Even the waiters had a hard time negotiating between the tables.
The heading says it all.
Even though Tim Cook from Apple was sitting near me, the place is not worth staying.
It is the place your parents force you to go for your great Aunts 95th birthday with decor that was cool in the 70's. They are too cheap to put in new lights. The IKEA pin lights are so annoying.
The waiter named Steve was beyond terrible and nasty. I didn't do anything to provoke him.
The food was very good but do take out. You will be glad you did. Or, go to SF to Slanted Door. If SD was in Palo Alto, these guys would be out of business.
The cuisine in this establishment is--in a word--nuanced, subtle, impeccable in production and presentation. The decor is subtle and "crisp". The service is superb, efficient, unobtrusive, and friendly without being cloying. Our server Mary Anne was perfect.
Outstanding, varied, and interesting food and flavors. Service was prompt and in the right sequence. All 5 stars.
I love their shaking beef and tamarind prawns! It is so delicious! A must try!
We LOVED Tamarine. Excellent food, nice ambience. This restaurant has been here for a number of years, even after the newness buzz has worn off it delivers some of the freshest, tastiest food in town. Will definitely be back.
This was my first time here and It was everthing and more what I thought the food would taste like.
Had the sea bass + mango chicken. Both were delicious. Would definitely come back (for leisure & business lunches as well!)
This is my fourth or fifth time eating at Tamarine in as many years and it never disappoints from the perspective of the quality of the food. Always, always excellent. Portion sizes are, however, a bit frustrating. Unless you are a *very* light eater an entree + rice (even if you get an appetizer) are not quite enough. And for the portion size, prices are very high. Because of this, I don't dine at Tamarine as often as I'd like to. We started with the salt & pepper calamari. Perfectly cooked (breading was crisp, calamari was tender) with a tangy and delicious cilantro emulsion that you wanted to drink. You can't miss with the clay pot cod...flaky, delicate with the incredible molasses sauce that makes you want to lick the bowl. The shaking beef was tender, but dry...almost no sauce (we should have asked for some). Good, but not as it has been in the past. Empress rice rounded out our meal and was completely delicious. We had the lemon pudding cake with blackberry sauce for dessert. Moist tender cake but, again, too light on the sauce. Dinner for two with *no* beverages came to $95. Now you can see why we don't dine there very often! Service was attentive, but not annoying. We were there for more than 2 hours and didn't ever feel rushed, even though the restaurant was very busy. I had asked for a quiet table/booth, and we were seated in exactly such a spot.
the food and service were spectacular...would highly recommend ordering the chef's tasting menu in advance for your first visit
Vietnamese food upscaled for foodies. Very nice food and decor at surprisingly low price. Nicely done dishes that feel modern but are still have an authentic core. The beef noodle soup, pork chop, black cod in pot, tea leaf beef appetizer, kiwi drink, and sauces were all excellent. Desserts were also top notch -- innovative high-end spin of vietnamese favorites.
I love the food at Tamarine when I discovered the restaurant with the my co-workers. Subsequently, I reserved a table for my wedding anniversary and for my parents' wedding anniversary. Both the times, I reserved well ahead of time (2-3 weeks) and requested a quiet corner table. Even after calling them directly and requesting a corner table, they said they will try their best - both the times, we ended up with a 2 person table between other 2 person tables (there's a whole row of them assembled in a line). Felt crowded and squeezed in with the other tables. Food is consistently top quality but I think it misses the mark on the 'personal' touch. Some restaurants will give a little treat at the end of the meal to celebrate the occasion they have come for. Didn't get any of that here. Because of the excellent food and mild mannered servers, next time, I would only go there with a group and not for a romantic ambiance.
The whole Sichuan Branzino was fantastic. Also enjoyed Tuna Tempura rolls. I will definitely go back. It is too pricey for a regular lunch but special occasion fantastic! Good service as well.
We had a great evening and waiter (Sam). Each dish was very tasty and yummy. This is a very special place. Of course we will return.
Tamarine has a pleasant atmosphere, polite and efficient staff and a nice, vibrant feel. The food was prepared and presented well. Our appetizer, the calamari, was the most flavorful with a strongly-flavored citrus dipping sauce. The clay pot cod had a deeply sweet flavor. The vegetable curry had a hint of coconut and was a little on the bland side, but nonetheless very good.
We always have a fantastic meal. The tapioca may seem not very exciting as a desert, but it's surprisingly delicious, and vegan!
Perfect combination of flavors, good service, convenient location on University Av.
Delicious food. Tuna tartar, seabass and empress rice are highlights.
You can feel the prosperity in the ambience at Tamarine. On a warm Friday night, the rooms were packed with beautiful, no I mean that honestly, beautiful and happily boisterous people. Absolutely everything but the food was terrific. I'd heard about this place for years, made a few abortive attempts to go there, and was excited to myself to finally have a date, a paying date, to dine. But one bite into a soggy nugget of fried calamari with a fancy name and I was wondering. A bite into an equally soggy zucchini fritter (I am not responsible for the ordering) and I knew. Don't get me wrong, some of the dishes were good, and one cold soup was excellent. But the for the most part, you're buying elaborate presentation for its own sake, elaborate presentation that's become too elaborate for its own good. Sorry to be negative ;(.
Second meal at Tamarine. Food was quite good; especially liked the appetizer "Tamarine Taste". Had the Shaking Beef entree and the Prawns, both of which I enjoyed. Service was quite slow to start but picked up well as the meal went along. This visit was more noisy than the prior one but this visit was prime time on a Friday night. My prior visit was early on a Saturday evening, which explains the more quiet atmosphere at that time. I appreciated that we were seated immediately when we arrived for our 8:00 reservation through Open Table. Beware of the crawling traffic on the street on University Avenue. I knew it would be like that so we gave ourselves what seemed like a generous amount of lead time but still cut it close due to the traffic. There is a convenient municipal parking deck immediately behind the restaurant. If I get back to Palo Alto, I will visit the restaurant again.
Great food and service. Will return for sure. We ordered several appetizers and one entree to share, it was all so delicious .
Kamie was awesome as our server and we tried wonderful new allergen free items absolutely love the meal and the service
Tamarine never disappoins on the food. The lemongrass see bass, the cod , the shaking beef, papaya salad were all great. But entrees at $29 for lunch seems a bit steep
