Truly fantastic dining experience from platter to platter! We are vegetarian and ordered the tandoori subz platter, garlic naan, dahi aloo puri, kothambir salad to start out with. A couple of delicious cocktails-the maharaja and the hibiscus followed by the evergreen dal makhni and an adventurous nargisi kofta. Lachcha paratha was perfectly delightful with dollops of ghee! As if this wasn’t enough we celebrated the evening with a dessert platter for 4-which had every texture, temperature and flavor any dessert lover would want! One of our best dining experiences in NYC!
Food was yummy, but, we were extremely dehydrated after having food
Went there for our daughter birthday. Service and food was great. Delicious food and the drinks were great. Service was very good.
Vinay was just lovely. Great server!
We ordered the Lobster Marsala and lamb chops and both were excellent! The atmosphere, service and price were appropriate and what I expected. Can’t wait to return and try something new!
Great meal to celebrate my friends birthday! They have lovely cocktails. The food is always delicious. Our server Vinny was excellent and attentive. If I lived closer I’d eat here twice a week! Yum!
This a real gem in NYC. Perfectly balanced flavors with outstanding service in a elegant setting. We don't mind traveling from uptown at all for this great masterpiece.
Vinay created a wonderful dining experience for us—the perfect balance of hospitality and humor. The warmth he and the rest of the staff demonstrated will definitely compel us to return again. 5 stars!
Amazing experience on a very special day. Tamarind lived up to the expectation and didn't dissapointed.
Superb service and excellent food!
Every dish excels and always has. Love the food, love everything here and Vinny will look after you and put a big smile on your face.
I always love Tamarind. Vinay served us and he was excellent. He remembered my order from last time and made special selections because my friend cannot eat dairy. I will make sure to be seated with him again.
Very authentic and delicately prepared food. Seek Kabab and lobster was the highlight. Service was friendly yet professional. We left with desire to eat more. The perfect Indian experience.
Wow. This place is dated. Service still kind of feels like a 5 star restaurant but food is tired. Sad.
Consistently outstanding on every measure
Our meal was amazing as usual. The food is delicious and authentic with a modern flare. And the staff is always friendly and hospitable. This is one of my all time favorite NYC restaurants.
Always great, if pricey. Worth it for a special occasion. Beautiful restaurant and impeccable service.
I always loved the Flat Iron branch this restaurant, and this Tribeca one is also excellent. BUT I was disappointed that although I arrived early and requested a booth or roundish table, our group of 6 was relegated to literally the uppermost, most secluded corner of the restaurant so we didn’t really enjoy any ambience whatsoever. Food was wonderful and we had a lovely time anyway but the location of our table was terrible.
Impeccable service and delicious food in a very elegant room— a special experience.
I've been coming here for as long as I can remember. Always fantastic - Food, ambiance, drinks. Excellent service. Keep up the good work . Probably the best Indian restaurant in NYC delivering 5 stars on service, food and ambiance.
Lovely staff. Vinay K -- fabulous waiter.
here are an additional 50 characters.
Wow! The best Indian food I have ever had.
The drinks were delicious, the food was amazing, and the service was impeccable.
Don't miss this gem.
Wonderful food with wonderful service. Our waiter(R. Vinay) was very, very helpful, as well as quite pleasant. I would request to sit in his station again.
Great dining experience. I was looking for a place to take my friends who came from out of town. They just loved it. Since we entered, every staff we encountered was very polite and professional. Took care of small little needs. Cauliflower appetizer was crunchy and tangy, chicken kababs with jalapeño just melted in the mouth. Everything we ate was fabulous. Definitely coming back soon.
We were out to celebrate the 54th wedding anniversary of my partner's parents. Our service was helpful and attentive from the moment we arrived. There was an excellent array of vegetarian, seafood and meat based appetizers and entrees. The special cauliflower appetizer was excellent - full flavored, crisp and delicious. Our two seafood entrees were the highlights of the night: the Tandoor prepared sea bass was fantastic: a generous portion with a seared outside and moist inside. The halibut special was also well portioned, with a variety of Indian spices and a curry sauce that did not over power the delicate flavor of the halibut. Our waiter was friendly and when he overheard we were celebrating an anniversary - he brought out a dessert with a small candle on it, which delighted the couple. Thank you for a delicious evening.
Love love love this place! Awesome dinner and the service was spot on.
We have patronized this establishment before and live locally. The food and the evening were just just OK, overall. There was no music, or no real sense of being welcomed by the staff. I had to ask about our coats being taken; no appetizers, wines, entrees or drinks were even suggested by our servers.
I was left with the impression that this establishment is not very hospitable or welcoming to male couples.
My husband and I truly enjoyed our experience at Tamarind. We do not eat Indian food often, but our waiter, Vinay K, walked us through the menu and made us feel right at home. His recommendations were right on point and everything we ate was delicious. The decor and ambiance are lovely as well. I would highly recommend a visit to Tamarind if you are in NYC.
The Food was Excellent, the service was the best service i have ever had and the price was affordable. The Decor reminded me of the Tropics and also India. The chicken Tikki Masala was superb, the garlic Naan was the best i have ever had i would recommend this restaurant to anyone. I also believe i met the owner when we walk in and was very welcoming, he even check to see if we were okay during our meal. Still thinking about the food to this day wish they delivered to Brooklyn. Even if the fee is high its worth every penny.
Tamarind was a bit disappointing. The food was good but the service was really abrupt and rushed. It’s too pretentious and rates as a pretty average overall experience and kind of needs to lose the attitude because it’s not that special. Overall, I wouldn’t go back or recommend.
It’s always an enjoyable dining experience!
Very nice experience! Would recommend
We couldn’t have been happier with food, service and ambiance. Our server did a great job guiding us through the menu and looking after us without being too present. The decor was comfortable modern chic. A lovely experience.
The ambience was good. The food was amazing.
We ordered Veg Thali and Kebab Platter, as being Indian and have heard so much about the place we wanted to taste a bunch of things. And also our server was unable to recommend or tell us what their specialty was or what was popular at the place.
Overall the thali was very good, to be specific my favorites were the Harabhara kebab, Dal Makhani, Paneer and mango chutney. In the kebab platter my favorites were the Lamb Chops and Chicken tandoori, the meat was juicy and well cooked, very flavorful. Did not like the Chicken Tikka and prawn, it was overcooked and chewy, prawn was hard.
For Dessert we ordered Rasmalai, the best part of the meal. Having being staying in NYC for long time, i got a chance to eat rasmalai after almost 3 years. This is my favorite dessert and i loved every bite of it. Ended up ordering another serving.
My only disappointment was, we were there to celebrate my husbands birthday. And i had requested them to write Happy Birthday on the Dessert plate via Open Table. So it was Open Table's fault or the Restaurant's i don't know. I am taking out 1star for that.
I would definitely revisit this place for the food and would also recommend this place if anyone wants to taste authentic Indian food with an ambience.
Great food and service. Worth the star that it’s got
interesting dishes - not your ordinary Indian meal
I made a reservation here to celebrate my husband's birthday. We hadn't been for years which is a shame we don't go more often. It really is such a FABULOUS experience that we should try to make it more often. We arrived for our reservation & had to wait a few minutes while they set the table. We waited at their large & lovely bar until seated. We were seated at a lovely 2 top table with the bar on the other side of the banquette. The dining area has super high ceilings with plenty of seating, not super close together. We were greeted promptly by a lovely waitress who was very professional & totally on top of things having given terrific, attentive service on a busy Saturday evening. We ordered specialty cocktails which were fantastic and a good amount of food which came perfectly as ordered. We basically ordered the specials, both apps & entrees, and they were all delicious. I would HIGHLY recommend eating here!
As always, the restaurant made for a wonderful experience
We went for my parents' 25th Wedding Anniversary, which was an extremely special occasion deserving of a special meal. Special it was, from how charming and personable our waiter was, to the AMAZING paneer dishes, and the (free) mango cake they brought out at the end with a candle in it for my parents to blow out. And the owner, Mr. Walia, while sometimes overbearing in how we vigilantly took note of everyone was a pleasure to talk to. He greeted all the customers, which is customary of a Michelin-star restaurant, but what blew us away was when he stared to mop the restaurant entrance when people's jackets from the rain carried water inside. I have never seen that happen before!
Must haves: Amritsari Seekh appetizer, Vegetable Jalfrezi subzi, and mushroom & truffle oil naan.
Improvement idea to the restaurant: Have more than one thaali plate or at least give the option to customize the food choices in the thaali
