Tamarind - Tribeca

We loved this restaurant! We were a party of four and we were seated in a large booth right next to the reception desk. We were hesitant to sit there at first, but there weren't any disruptions from people coming and going. It was also quiet so we could actually have a conversation. Our waiter, Vinay, was very good, as was all the service. Plates and silverware were replaced frequently, and I happened to spill a drop of red wine on the tablecloth which was covered with a napkin so we didn't see the spill. We shared 3 appetizers and 3 entrees, and still had food left over which they packed very nicely for us. The bathrooms were spotless too! All in all, it was a very pleasant night out and I would like to return to this restaurant as they had an extensive menu of many dishes that I have not encountered in other Indian restaurants.
Always outstanding. The host Mr. Walia is on top of everything and makes everyone feel welcome. The food is always excellent and the service professional and discrete.
The food was good though I had higher expectations. The service staff was very attentive but little pushy and did not give any time to review the menu.
Lovely place for lunch date. Pre-fixed menu was delicious and just enough for lunch. Very quiet for a weekday lunch meeting.
Favorite NYC restaurant. We go there often. Food and service always consistently great. You feel welcomed from the time you arrive until you leave. Owner and staff always gracious
I have rarely been more disappointed with the food in any restaurant . The ingredients were fresh and the halibut was good quality, but all the cooking was flavorless and hardly any herb or spice could be detected. The chicken tika was much too sweet; the food has been adapted to suit every generic taste and can hardly be called "Indian".
Vinne, our server was excellent! I remembered him from when Tamarind was on 22nd / Park Ave. He's still as enthusiastic and professional now as then. He's been with Tamarind for over 16 years, which speaks to the owners and shows in the service we received.
Highly recommend - :)
Love this restaurant! If you are looking for an Indiana restaurant with good food, great service and nice ambiance this is the place to dine at.
Delicious ethnic cuisine. Wonderful service. Good ambiance. Good spacing between tables. A fun place to have dinner with friends.
Delicious flavorful traditional Indian offerings with a fresh flair. Highest level service, polite and respectful. HIGHLY recommend! We will be back!
This was a great find, especially for my Brit husband who love Indian food. We have eaten at many posh Indian restaurants in NY, London, and India and this was such a great find. We will be back soon. Also great for larger parties and you can actually have a conversation in this restaurant - a rare find these days.
Exceptional food in a beautiful and relaxing dining room. My friends and I had a wonderful time here.
Expensive for what it is.
Service was warm and attentive. Beautiful ambiance. Outstanding food quality and presentation. I loved the Bhagarey Baigan...a truly memorable dish that I'll come back for!
Vinay was an absolutely wonderful server and made the evening a delight!
Tasty Indian food, heat-tempered to your taste from mild to fiery. Varied menu and extensive wine and cocktail list. Lovely multi-level space.
Overall, great experience. The servers and staff were very attentive, the owner even checked in on us. Great ambiance, very comfortable and spacious. We enjoyed our meals and the prices were very fair.
What a great evening! The team at Tamarind was terrific, responsive and extremely courteous. The food and the wine was top notch and Tamarind is redefining 'excellence' in consistent best practices in hospitality. Thanks Team Tamarind!
Very good restaurant. Fantastic service and very gentle people. Very good value
Understaffed. Never filled water glasses. Never bothered to look over. Took 20 minutes to get the bill.
This is a wonderful true Indian restaurant. We have been going for years and have never been disappointed in anything. It is always a treat.
Among the Very Best!
Okay, according to Open Table, I dine out more than 99% of others living in the NYC Metro, so believe me when I say Tamarind is among the best restaurants in NYC. Located in Tribeca, it's also a nice non-touristy spot near several of NY's best bars (for before or after). If you are a tourist and have never been to Tribeca, you should... it's a lovely neighborhood with narrow brick streets offering a different perspective on Manhattan.
This was the second time in the past few years begun our New Year's Celebration with dinner at Tamarind. We started the night with a pair of Samosas, one with ground lamb meat, the other with chicken. Both were extremely tasty, of the two the lamb was off the charts. For my main dish, I had the Chicken Korma which was so delicious I can still taste it. My mother-in-law had a spicy shrimp dish that she loved (and she is one picky diner with discriminating taste). My wife enjoyed a lamb dish which we all shared... also delish.
The only question we asked ourselves the next morning was, why don't we dine at Tamarind more often, thus it's added to our list of New Year's Resolutions!
My wife is from Pakistan and was quite impressed by the authenticity and quality of the food. It was certainly the best Indian restaurant I've been to, and I've sampled many. I can't wait to go back. Top notch in every respect. Also, we enjoyed watching the chef from our upstairs table as he used the tandoor oven.
Vindaloo had very subtle flavors that build to hot, best Roti, very good halibut. This is a lovely restaurant with fabulous service.
Great food with great service!
Excellent experience. Delicious, innovative cuisine. Attentive service. Lovely ambiance. Interesting wine list. Highly recommend.
Took my daughter for first time. Was fantastic. The cauliflower appetizer is heavenly, and is a “must-order” for anyone
Fourth time there... top notch every time no matter what I order
Best restaurant in Manhattan
Unique twist on Indian dishes. Not the same dishes that you see in every other Indian restaurant. Very balanced and flavorful.
The best service and food, overall great experience.
The food was great, and our server Vinay was fabulous - very professional and charming, and very helpful in guiding those of our party with food allergies to the most appropriate dishes. A great restaurant to visit.
Vinay my waiter excellent!!
Warming and knows all the food
This has turned into our tradition for Christmas dinner and it has never disappointed. It is definitely one of my favorite Indian restaurants in NYC. Good food, good service, and good ambiance. Thank you Tamarind!💖
As always the service is impeccable, the food amazing, and the atmosphere outstanding! Just cannot day enough good things about Tamarind!
The Waiter was very pushy with the amount of our order. He made me order 2 of everything when I already knew better.
Consistently delicious. Certainly the best Indian restaurant and maybe the best overall in Manhattan.
Went to this restaurant to celebrate our son's birthday. I was not impressed by the service or the food. We had cocktails which were overly sweet which killed the flavor. For appetizers, we had Chilli Crab and Shrimp. It was just fine. Our waiter didn't introduce himself to us. Throughout the night, his service was poor. He was always in a hurry (even though we went early at 6.30 for dinner). He forgot our kids' drinks until halfway through the meal (only after being reminded).
The main course was just fine (Chicken Briyani was just pedestrian). The highlight was the Halibut, which had a killer sauce that went with it. It was the best item that we had here. Desserts were usual Indian affair - Gulab Jamun, Rasmalai & Kulfi.
We were hoping for something special for our son's birthday cake, but it was disappointing when they brought out the dessert we ordered with just a candle. Overall, the experience was disappointing. I have heard great things about this place from a bunch of friends, but I guess that was years ago.
Food was delicious. Service was good. We had a lunch reservation for 2:30pm. At 2:29pm as I was walking through the door a lovely lady called me to advise their last seating is at 2:30pm. “Great, I’m walking through the door as we speak.” We sat and ordered. After ordering and BEFORE the food came out our server asked us if we wanted to order anything further as the kitchen is closing. I’m by no means saying our server was rude, she was lovely as can be. However, it was strange to ask us if we wanted to order anything further before our food even arrived. Please keep in mind we ordered quite a bit.
Once we finished our food and the last plate was taken from our table, you could smell cleaning products as someone began to mop.
We felt rushed and left feeling like we were a burden to the staff. I enjoyed the food and our server was lovely but please adjust your last lunch seating.
