Tamarind - Tribeca Ratings and Reviews
Food was very average. The worst Indian food in the city for the price.
Chicken entree was golf balls - dry over cooked and insipid. The saag paneer was good. The daal was lacking salt. The lamb shank and the sheesh kebab were average. There was no point ordering desert given the poor quality of the entrees.
Service was spotty - a highly efficient person brought us warm towels and the amusee bouche. But the waiter did not show up with menus forever and then kind of disappeared. He also was very clear that he did not know Indian or the menu and hence could not repeat the order back to us. Also got a dish wrong on the order which they quickly fixed. Go elsewhere - junoon, Indian accent, many better options.
Tamarind is one of my favorite restaurants in all of Tribeca, They always call in advance to confirm my reservation and guest that will be attending and time. On the date of my reservation i called ahead of time to inform them we are running a bit late, they still accommodated us with the best service when we arrived. The moment we sat down they provided us with a warm towel and a delicate house appetizer. The atmosphere and food was overall a 5-Star all around, we had a lovely cocktail to finish the night. They also surprised my girlfriend with a small flan-cake for her birthday. We can't wait to come back.
The owner is a lovely gent, welcomes everyone makes you feel special. My chicken Marsala was tough and our waiter wasted no time taking it away and replacing with another very tasty plate. Very nice, professional service. We will return!
This is a most wonderful place. We have come here for an early New Year’s Eve dinner for years. The restaurant is large but one feels like one is in an intimate setting. The owner is always available and the staff and food are perfection. There is always a chef inspired special at normal prices on NYE and it is gourmet. We have eaten at Tamarind many other times as well and it is just as special. Well prepared Indian food that is tasty, fresh , not greasy, served in an elegant atmosphere with a strong touch of warm and polished service . What more can one ask for.
We were seated by a corner, by the window and there was a very cold draft coming through. We asked for different seating but we were told there was none was available. It was very uncomfortable. I don’t think anyone should be put there on such a cold day. Items used to prepare the food seemed to be better quality but I am on the fence about how much better this place is as compared to other more cheaper places. Overall good for a date night.
Having travelled extensively around the world from Africa, to the UK to India to Australia and now the US, I can say that this has to be the best Indian Restaurant that I have been to for the amazing food, ambience & quality of service. Highly recommend it!
This is the 3rd year the family has gone here for Christmas dinner. I guess it's a tradition now. The ambiance, food, and service are all top notch without being pretentious or stuffy. I will definitely recommend this place to family and friends and I will be returning for another great dinner sometime soon. (That says a lot because there are sooooooo many restaurants in nyc that if a place is just ok or pretty good I don't usually go back. I only return if it's really good.)
