Tamarind - Tribeca

They don't make it white person spicy. They used actual chili. Great taste.
Always wonderful. Always consistent. Always excellent. For years and years. If you haven’t been, GO. If you have, GO AGAIN.
Chicken breast was dry but the thigh meat was perfect.
Great Food and Experience
Tamarind is never disappoints. The food, service, and ambiance was terrific.
ALL the glasses were terribly dirty when we were served water. We order a wine which took well over 25 mins to come, the food came and the bread was missing then the main course was cold. Then we ordered dessert which tasted very OLD.. this was a terrible experience!
While I prefer the intimacy of the original location, the food is just as delicious 15 years later.
The food was DELICIOUS! Service was great - our server Vinay was incredibly knowledgeable and was able to help my husband who has food sensitivities, choose options that would agree with him. He was also incredibly patient as we just couldn’t seem to stop chatting long enough to order our food 😂. It was my son’s birthday and they brought a pice of cake with a candle at the end of our meal - so thoughtful. Would definitely go back.
We have been going to Tamarind for years including there original location up on 20th. The food is exceptional and one of the best restaurants in New York city. Such flavor and clever modern versions of great Indian dishes. It is a must go place and to be repeated.
I was disappointed. I had been looking forward to dinner with several friends. We had agreed to meet in the bar before dinner. Several other friends were to join us just for drinks. We arrived at 5:00 in order to enjoy drinks before our 6:00 reservation. We were told the staff was in a meeting but we could wait in the bar until the meeting was over. We told the woman we were expecting guests. While waiting for the bartender we were laughing at the bar, admittedly loud. But there was no one else in the bar or the restaurant. The manager came over and told us to quiet down as they were in a meeting. Wow! Never had that happen before. Finally, the bartender arrived. He took our drink order and put the check on the bar to close out the tab even though we told him others would be joining us. Before we finished our first round of drinks, the hostess told us our table was ready, a half hour early. We explained that we were waiting for our friends to join us. She said OK and returned to her station.
After our friends arrived we had to ask for another round of drinks and start another tab. He gave us the bill, thanked and dismissed us. Very rude! Our friends left and we were led to our table. Nice table overlooking the first floor.
Service was rushed. The waiter rushed through the specials and gave abrupt answers to our questions. Tamarind has been on of our favorite restaurants and the wait staff had always been helpful and friendly. Not that night. We had to ask for silver for the entree course. We had to remind the waiter to bring a rice dish we ordered. Very inattentive. We declined dessert.
I had traveled from Raleigh and was looking forward to the food. Disappointing. I ordered the samosas which were as good as I remembered. The mixed grill was hit and miss. The lamb chop was amazing; the chicken was dry with not enough sauce. The rice pilau was dry. However the naan was outstanding. I travel to NYC regularly. I am taking Tamarind off my go to list!
It was our first Anniversary and as always they have a high standard of service. Food is great.
Great meal!! Well worth the price. The service incomparable. Though this was a vacation, I will be sure to visit the next time I’m in NYC.
An exquisite treat each time. The service is unparalleled, as is the food. Tamarind is timelessly elegant and gracious.
Very disappointing. I guess it could be good for those who have no idea or palate for great tasting Indian dishes. Had gone one time before and didn't think much about it, but thought maybe I ordered the wrong dishes and hence gave it another try. There never will be a third time. Have had way better tasting food in fast food Indian Joints.
Worst service experience... our waiter was obnoxious. We come to Tamarind every year to celebrate our anniversary. We had a very rude waiter who never came back to take our order. When he finally did we asked if there were any specials. He said, “let me check with the kitchen,” walked directly to another table, took their order, input it in the system and came back to tell us the specials. It was so rude. Especially since he had been absent for 30 minutes. Then items we ordered came at the wrong time. At this point, my husband went to host stand to ask if we could have a different waiter.. they then rudely came to our table demanding we move. I said all was fine, just let us finish our meal. Rude and arrogant behavior at what was our favorite restaurant in the city. Never coming back and they ruined our anniversary.
As always food and service outstanding
We dined here for 4th July. Food was lovely and service was very good but very expensive for what we had to eat. 2 starters, 6 main meals with 3 rice and 2 nan breads. 12 drinks altogether 2 being coke. $481 in total.
I’ve been to Tamarind before and I really recommend it. It’s Indian food like no other in an ambience that is upscale, looking more like a fancy Italian restaurant! Most of what we ordered tasted so delicious! For desserts, I highly recommend the mango cheesecake.
Wonderful food and friendly, attentive service. And for a NYC restaurant it's pretty quiet, so you can actually hear each other talk. One of my favorite place to have dinner with friends.
For a Michelin star this restaurant has really gone down in food quality . I have been here couple of times before in the other location before they closed it .
The food came in 10 minutes which is impossible for any good food to be prepared especially Indian . It tastes nothing like slow cooked original recipient - it was more like fast food . What a shame . Would not recommend this for the price at all
Tamarind is truly an outstanding restaurant. It IS a little stuffy, and I suspect that some diners arrive not having done their homework and expecting something from E. 6th Street--those restaurants can certainly also be excellent, but different, and not so expensive as Tamarind. For what you get, Tamarind is a good deal. Professional service has an overtone of friendliness and total efficiency. The menu is various, both strong in fundamentals and very imaginative. And delicious. The setting is on the elegant side--not fancy, but tasteful and consistent. We always liked the uptown Tamarind a bit more than the current downtown one; but this is what we have, and it's terrific, having incorporated some of the strengths of its uptown sibling.
The food and service are great! I will definitely come back again.
Very average food and not worth the price
Best Tandoori lamb chops on the planet. Everything is delicious and beautifully presented. It is always a pleasure dining at Tamarind!
Delicious special of tandoori halibut on a silky bed of lettuce. Solicitous service,
spacious environs, soothing decor, excellent wine list.
Tasty food, great service, excellent value. I keep going back.
This is one of the finest restaurants in Downtown NY.. I make it point to visit the restaurant when i visit NY..Its great place to have one of the best cuisine in entire East Coast.
I am not particularly fussy about my food, but this was easily my worst food experience in a high-end restaurant ever. The dal makhani felt like it had been cooked two days earlier and left out to dry after that. The paneer was just plain bland with large chewy chunks. The starters - bhel puri and aloo chaat - were just ok. You could easily find a better place in NYC to enjoy good Indian food. I recommend Junoon.
Best Indian food I’ve ever eaten. Service was excellent. Will definitely be going again, next time we’re in the city.
Really wonderful restaurant for a special occasion or if you're interested in having your favorite indian cuisine but with a high end twist. Flavors and portion sizes are worthwhile. Love this place.
Everything was perfect .
Excellent food and service!
Drinks made at bar were not my favorite but everything else was stellar
The food was not tasty at all. The coffee and tea is over $8. They bring it in tiny cups and charge another $8 for a refill. The restaurant is expensive anyway so why do they need to do that? We were 6 of us and ordered tons of dishes but nothing was tasty.
Great food, great service, over priced and too quiet
I would only recommend it in a very special occasion: To introduce to indian food a friend who is afraid of lesser cleanliness elsewhere. Tamarind is very clean and westernized. Food is very good, but it could be found as good elsewhere at half or third of price.
Food is poor.
Great authentic indian food
Best Indian food in New York. We loved the truffle naan and the cauliflower starter special was incredible. This restaurant is a must visit.
Very good customer experience and amazing food. Right size portions too !
