Tamarind East Indian Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Really enjoyed the restaurant! Our favourite dishes were the appetizers, being the vegetarian samosas and the fish pakora. The mint and tamarind sauces were both very good and the mint sauce was not too hot. The fish pakora was basically fish fillet (half white fish and half salmon pieces) with a nice light breading. Neither was greasy at all! Didn't quite enjoy the butter chicken or chicken tikka masala as much. The butter chicken was slightly too tomato sauce tasting. While the chicken tikka masala didn't have many pieces of chicken and was full of large pieces of onion. The Naan bread was awesome as was the coconut rice. The service was excellent and we will return to try some new main dishes.
Since this is in our neighbourhood, I come here quite often with the kids or get take out. We were celebrating my uncle's 65th birthday so there was 15 of this time. Everyone was very impressed with the food as it was fresh, tasty and came out piping hot! For the number of dishes we ordered, the service and timing of when the food came out was great!
A couple of dishes my Asian family would not have tried was the papri chaat and they loved it! Other dishes we had was the butter chicken, curry chicken, palak paneer, okra masala and the fresh naan bread were all delicious!
I've tried many different establishments but for Indian, this is the best one! Highly recommended.
Tamarind restaurant was a great experience- especially when it came to the service. Everyone was so accommodating, friendly, and went out of their way to make our experience amazing. The Dahl was incredible, as was the bbq tandoori. The atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxing, and although I cant stand the suburbs- I would make this drive again!
Tamarind East Indian Restaurant has great food and service. Would definitely return. They have a large menu with plenty of options. Server was very friendly and very knowledgeable. Worth the drive to the N.W. Prices are very reasonable. Decor and ambiance at Tamarind East Indian Restaurant is relaxing. Thank you very much.
4:30pm dining on a Wednesday evening.
One of the reasons I chose this restaurant was because it was rated as casual ....I don't believe this to be true. We were on our way home from camping and were dressed in sweat pants and sweaters and I felt very under-dressed and foolish.
My family and I had a serving of beef samosas, coconut rice, lamb korma and butter chicken.
The beef samosas were very tasty and I was surprised by the side dipping sauces. The mint chutney was a different texture than I was used to, but it was so yummy. I practically licked it off the plate! lol
The lamb korma was out of this world. Very delightful.
The butter chicken was disappointing to myself. It was a little too sweet and tasted a little too much like campbell's tomato soup. Although, my husband and children loved it.
Overall, I really liked my experience at Tamarind.
The entire experience was fantastic!! Given that they new it was our anniversary (put that in the special instructions in our Open Table reservation), they prepared a prime table for us. The service was exceptional. The food was tasty, vibrant, succulent, exciting, and plentiful. The service was second to none. We will definitely, definitely be back.
Excellent food and service, our waitress was particularly good at explaining how much we should order for a group of 6 and made suggestions. We all felt she was one of the best waitresses we have met in a long time. The overall experience was excellent and we will be sure to return.
We have been to this restaurant a few times and always enjoy the food. My only complaint about our visit this time was our arrival. We booked more then a week in advance and arrived on time. They acknowledged our reservation, so they knew we were coming. The restaurant was half empty, yet they still hadn't gotten a table ready for us. So we stand in the doorway as they scramble to wipe down a table and get cutlery etc. What does it take in this city to get restaurants to reserve their best tables for customers who book in advance and be ready for us when we arrive? This is not the only place where it happens, but I just don't get how restaurant staff can't figure this out.
Anyway, with that behind us, seated we focused on the food, which we know is good! On a recommendation we tried the fish pakora this time, a bit pricy but delicious! Hard to share the sauce (between four people) that comes with this dish as it is spread on the plate, maybe ask for it in small bowls. All our other dishes were excellent too, lamb, prawns and veg curries with hot, fresh garlic nan and two kinds of rice. Delicious! The restaurant is nicely decorated, for a little while feel like you have escaped the snow and cold! Service, once seated, was excellent! Great neighborhood restaurant!
The food was acceptable though far from the best Indian food I've had. We had four chicken dishes. The butter chicken and coconut dishes were the best ones. The tikka masala was a little too spicy for me.
The server brought out an erroneous dish but he was cordial in fixing the mistake and bringing out the right dish.
Mostly though, it was just mediocre.
