Tamarack Junction Steak House Ratings and Reviews
Not impressed. We went there on a date night. The hostess was a bit snarky right off the bat and it took a long time for our waiter and even longer for our food. We had the lobster and crab appetizer and it was the best part of our meals. We waited 20 minutes after placing our appetizer order for it to be served and longer for our waiter to take our order. My date ordered the special described as a prime cut boneless ribeye. It was NOT a great cut of meat. The choice rib eye at Costco is a superior steak and a far better value for the price. I ordered the filet and it cooked as ordered around the outside and far too rare anywhere else. The creme brulee we ordered for dessert tasted like it could have been out of a box. It was gritty...not creamy and lacking a crunchy, sugary top. The truth is, we were not expecting to be overwhelmed with greatness. We were hoping to find a local joint with good food. Overall, neither the food, the service, or the ambience was top level steakhouse. We would have settled for good steaks. We took a gamble on a smaller casino and lost.
If you could go into the restaurant from outside, you wouldn't know it's in a casino. The ambience and service were excellent. The only issue we had, was the filet was cooked to the proper doneness, but was charred so it tasted bitter. They did take it back and brought a new one, but it almost had the same problem. We just trimmed off the char and the steak was ok. Kind of sad for a steakhouse that advertises their 1400 degree broiler. Maybe a little to high? Oh, and the steak was requested to be cooked medium. Will probably give them another try next time.
The atmosphere was perfect. Sadly the staff was not attentive what so ever. The Chardonnay bottle of wine was warm, so had to wait for it to be put on ice. Then we had to serve ourselves. One of my guest ordered his steak medium and it was raw. I ordered well done Diane and it was also very rare. Even when I asked him. He was in a bit of a hurry and couldn't wait for me to check to make sure it was to my liking. Overall the food was good, but service was sadly poor. We were all surprised. Such a nice potential place, but this happened a few months ago and we decided to have business meeting there. It hasn't changed. They need to train the staff. It was a big bill for such poor service. I never did get my dinner either. He forgot I sent it back. Arg. No other staff could help as it was not their table. Won't be back.
Our experience did not live up to reviews. Food was fine but not revelatory. Dining room was loud between the wait staff speaking over the conversation noise and the frequent table-side salad making endeavors, which added an annoying (wooden bowls used) scraping sound. The scraping noise was loud and out of place compared to other restaurants. Wait staff was friendly and attentive, although a bit eager to clear. Granted, we were at Tamarack Junction. but think we were expecting more of a fine dining experience and ambiance and this was not that. Doubt we will go back.
We eat here quite often and find it superior to Charlie Palmer's at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - less expensive, better food, better service, and a generally better atmosphere. Of course, you still have to walk through a smoky casino to get to it, but because the Tamarack is much smaller, it's much easier to get to.
Dave and Paul (our wait staff) took great care of us; Dave was very knowledgeable about the menu, preparation, and presentation of the food, while Paul was very attentive to keeping our table clear and ready for the next delicious course.
The price with entree and soup/salad was $55 per person including tip, so commensurate with an upscale steakhouse. We had an order of lobster tail, two orders of petit filet, and a Chilean sea bass. We had a creme brulee for dessert (1) that we all shared.
Awesome evening with good food and service.
The Tamarack Steak House is our go to restaurant when we want great food and great service. We took our friends who had never eaten at the steak house and they were amazed by the ambiance and by the food. They are locals born in Reno and kept remarking on how nice it was.
Thank you Tamarack for another wonderful food experience!
Lost my date at the last minute, but the server (Niki?) was gracious and very accommodating. I ordered his meal "to go", and that was accomplished. Meanwhile, I had the most exquisite steak and potato soup which was stew-like with a very creamy broth. A bowl of that "to die for" soup and a dinner salad were more than enough for a filling meal.
Tamarack Junction is a locals casino and only they know about the great Steak House inside. A high end restaurant with impeccable service, atmosphere, and great food. Our favorite is their tableside prepared Steak Diane. You can't get it better anywhere in Reno. To start that meal off, you must have the tableside prepared Caesar Salad. Prices are moderate ($50-$60 with drinks & a glass of wine).
We have been here several times. Every visit has been a very good dining experience. Service is allways exceptional. The meats are first rate. Excellent variety on the menu. Despite being in a casino, once in the restaurant you would never know it. Nice ambiance.
Made an Anniversary reservation on line for dinner. Service from Dave was excellent. They carry one of my favorite wines, Sienna, a red blend. They are known for the scalloped potatoes. Our third time at the restaurant, food delicious as always. Only one hitch in the gitty up. The hostess didn't let our waiter know it was our anniversary. Dave came through for us. One last thing about Dave, he is very knowledgeable about the menu and how everything is prepared.
The ambiance was wonderful and the service was great but i found a short red hair in the butter that came with the rolls and my fillet that was $38 came to the table medium when it should have been med rare, some may think im just being picky but if im paying close to $40 for a piece of fillet it should be cooked exactly the way i want it, the mashed potatoes are made with russets and i think red potatoes make for a smoother and creamier mashed potatoe but other than those two things it was a good reasturant.
The prime rib, green beans, potatoes, pasta, wedge salad, dinner salads and service were excellent. And now for the constructive criticism. The carrots were overly salty, the chicken dish was a smaller portion than usual, the chicken was overcooked and tough, and the lobster in the appetizer was also overcooked and tough although the rest of the dish was very tasty. Basically, my overall criticism would be a lack of consistency. Those dishes that were lacking we have had before and they were excellent. That's why we ordered them again. We were celebrating two birthdays, and really enjoyed ourselves. Thanks for an overall good experience. We're all "foodies", and that's why I've written a detailed analysis.
