Our only complaint is that they did not come around to refill coffee - but more importantly they did not come to refill our water until we were finished. The waiter however was excellent, as was the food.
As someone adjusting to not eating beef, I was concerned that eating at Tam O’Shanter would be a difficult experience.
I could not have been more wrong!
The Roasted Jidori Chicken was amazing. It eased my feelings of jealousy over having to skip the prime rib. If I could, I would still go with the prime rib, but the chicken is a worthy substitute!
I was sorry to see that the prices had gone up so much, but the service made up for it somewhat, as did the fact that we didn't have to deal with valet parking on this Sunday brunch. The restaurant was packed by one in the afternoon which made it very loud. I loved that the landscaping had been updated since my last visit; very pretty.
Amazing first time experience! Seated right away, food was delicious as well as attentive service by staff. Water glasses always full. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Fantastic ambiance in a historic LA restaurant. Recipes don't seem to have changed much in its 87 year history. Reminds you of the supper club your parents would take you to as a kid. Food is out of this world - truly the best prime rib I have ever had, and I've been to all the best steakhouses in the country. Literally all of them. Eat in the same spot as Walt Disney (his favorite) and John Wayne. Outside was the inspiration for the Snow White cottage. Valet parking in mandatory and very reasonable. Great for large families or just dinner for two. Very cool, great service, a dinner to remember.
Pricey, but overall a great experience. Great food
We came to the restaurant for a family celebration as we have done for many years. Some of our family are disabled or elderly. On all previous visits we could simply drop them off at the valet from which there was a short walk into the restaurant. But the new outdoor dining area includes a very long walk from the parking lot to the restaurant entrance, on uneven ground with nothing for support. It's also the only way in or out. No ramp . No handrails. Fortunately, nobody in our party lost their balance and fell but it was frightening for them all. The front desk staff said there was nothing they could do although they said they would bring it to the attention of the restaurant. Although the food and especially the service were excellent as always, it's now impossible for us to visit this restaurant anymore due to the safety issue and it put a damper on our entire experience that night.
The Tam is a favorite of ours, especially for prime rib, Yorkshire pudding and creamed spinach. The quality was as good as always. The service was excellent and the wine selection was good and fairly priced.
Fantastic food and amazing atmosphere and service. Ratebit & Primerib!!!
Solid food, service is good, good bar in and old school setting
Always the best service, food and evening.
Especially loved the corned beef & cabbage.
Food was not too standard. Prime rib was of lesser quality. Service was fantastic. Overall the time spent was worth it but did have concerns on food quality
Excellent food and service! The staff was very accommodating and helpful!
The Tam has always been great. A well run restaurant with great food. We have dined there many times and the experience is always wonderful.
Went for Mother’s Day brunch. They were already out of the corned beef dish. Overall good experience and friendly staff. 4 entrees and 1 bottle of wine = $300 bill
Did not like that the Mothers Day Brunch was different that was showed in a Mothers Day advertisement link that I got from you. 3 of the 7 of us wanted the fish n chips or the Prime Rib dip sandwich and it was not on the menu. that was very disappointing.
They eliminated bottomless champagne just to celebrate mom in the best way... by making her day worse with $15 a glass champagne. They changed the menu entirely and even though when I called I shared an extreme dairy allergy... they did not share that there was an altered menu for us to check out... and the menu was covered in butter cheese and diary items... the server balked at our request for an ala carte poached egg and bacon request. I asked about bottomless champagne and they said this was NOT AN OPTION... but when we left I saw a sign that said it WAS an option on the patio... guess he just wanted that $15 a glass #neveragain
Excellent service. I took my family to the Tam for Mother's Day Brunch and had a wonderful time. Our server was so attentive and made our experience phenomenal. I prefer going at night because I love their fish and chips which are not on the brunch menu. Highly recommend the Tam for family dinners!
My spouse and I shared the California Cut Prime Rib dinner with creamed corn. My spouse had the Bread Pudding for dessert and I had the Cheesecake with Strawberry Rhubarb topping. Overall a very good dinner and more than plenty to share. Although this was the day before Mother's Day and was crowded, the service was still friendly and the food was served quickly. This is why we love the Tam!
As always, the prime rib dinner was delicious. And the service was gracious and unobtrusive.
Always a great meal. The soufflé is the best. My favorite local restaurant.
Prime rib was not as tender for amount charged. Chairs are in need of refurbishment. Very uncomfortable. Our server Linda was excellent. The charm of place makes up for negatives.
Great atmosphere and really friendly server who did not mind taking our picture at table 31 (Walt Disney's favorite table) and gave us some great Disney history. The food was great; I really enjoyed the Scottish Rarebit and the chocolate souffle. I have never been to a Scottish restaurant before and it did not disappoint.
It’s a great idea to arrive 30 minutes before your reservation in order to enjoy a drink at the bar. The service was terrific. The busy bar was not prohibitively loud.
Amazing time, place has tons of history!
We had a lovely dinner and the service was fantastic! My only disappointment was my chicken dinner. It was fatty, underwhelming and $29! Everything else was delicious.
Have always loved going to the Tam. However, when I call the Tam to book, I want to speak to a person to book, NOT do it online. I called during serving hours and there was no way to speak to a human as the mailboxes were "full" if I wished for a call back. I found that to be quite annoying and didn't get the kind of table that I usually have received when I have been able to speak to a person on the desk. My mother's name is on your website and on the reservation. I am the VIP member, NOT her. Perhaps that's why our table was not what I expected.
I booked this reservation for my mother's 91st birthday. Kudos to the Tam 'o Shanter staff and Open Table for honoring my request for table 31 (the "Disney" table). It added a nice touch to the birthday dinner. Our server was pleasant and accommodated all of our requests. I ordered the prime rib, thinking this is Lawry's stock in trade. The cut that I received however had little of the marbling that is usually present in a prime cut of beef. Even though I was given two types of horseradish as a condiment, it would've been nice to have been served au jus and capers with my prime rib as well. A disappointment, especially for a $40 plus entree. That won't keep me from coming back to give this place another chance to please me. I like the service, the ambiance, and the stiff drinks.
Wonderful service, delicious food, storied atmosphere. Look forward to returning.
We've been here a few times before, and have never had a problem or issue. The food is great, the portions are a good amount, and the service is excellent. My wife had the salmon, and I had the fish n chips this visit. Our friends split the biggest piece of prime rib I've ever seen, which they shared, and it was delicious.
My only warning is DO NOT come here if you're on a diet...lol.

Terrific old California restaurant with delicious comfort food and great service where you can actually talk to your dinner companions without yelling
Great food but waiter was a dude. No personallity and did not come by to check on us. He forgot drinks and had a charge on our bill for a salad we did not order and had to remove. We love Tam O'Shanter and will be back. Have never had a bad waiter or waitress before.
Everything was overcooked. The salmon sinner was like like a small brick. Very small portion too.. the two filet dinners came out the same- medium-well almost. One was supposed to be medium rare while the other medium. We should have sent them back but we just ate them. Something is slipping at that restaurant..
Food came out before the drinks, advantages of going early and sitting on the patio, beautiful afternoon. Jocelyn was very attentive and took care of everything right away.
food good, but menu has relatively few items, so choices are limited. service is excellent.
We no longer live in the L A. area, so aren't able to visit the Tam O'Shanter very often. We were happy to discover that, although there have been a few menu changes since our last visit a few years ago, all of our favorites were still available and the service was still excellent. This restaurant is wonderful historic institution and we are happy to see that it's flourishing as it approaches its 100th year.
I am always satisfied with their service, friendly servers, and the food.
The bus person was very rude and gave me a paper box for my au jus to take home. I told him I always got a plastic container. He said " WHAT?' At the end I complaint to the manager . He apologized and very polite. I just want to share this experience . For the price I paid and this service was not acceptable.
Always love dining at the Tam. It’s a great place to create good memories. And the food from fish-n-chips to prime rib and breakfast to the sandwich bar all pleased the palate!
