We went with our son and daughter in law to celebrate our anniversary. We were able to sit at the table Walt Disney frequented during his life. The waiter was wonderful, and the food was great. We got complimentary desserts for our anniversary and our son's birthday. Fun place!
Wifey and I took a couple from the UK to dinner, who remarked at how very UK the menu was. they loved the beef and horseradish as wonderfully authentic and delightful. The experience was memorable.
We are big fans of prime rib and love Lawrys restaurants. We have been here before and have had a good meal. This visit surely missed the mark. We ate on Monday night, and it was very busy. It took 1/2 hour to seat us, with our reservation. Our waitress came over and was very nice. She took our order and drinks arrived. It was down hill from there! The prime rib was very tough--we had to cut my mother-in-laws food as it was so difficult for her to eat (she ended up not eating). It was not acceptable--but we never saw the waitress again to return or comment. We were unable to order more beverages. We had not ordered appetizers, anticipating we would get dessert. We waited and waited after we ate our entress(those of us who could) and finally asked the young man serving water to bring us dessert menus---20 minutes later--as no one acknowledged us sitting there with our dessert menus--we asked the same water server to get our check--even that took time to take care of!!! We arrived at 7pm--and left at 9:15--only having an entrée and drinks. This was a terrible experience as we hoped to celebrate a birthday with desserts. Food and service were both terrible. It was not acceptable. We will not be back.
My husband has worked for The Walt Disney Company for over 30 years, and since this was a favorite hangout for Mr Disney and his creative team, we love the history attached to Tam O’Shanter. The food never disappoints, either...especially the prime rib! We absolutely love this place and we always recommend it highly!
Took about 5-10 minutes to be seated despite a reservation when it was not that busy. Waiter forgot to put dressing on the side. Overall a positive experience.
Late Valentines and family dinner.
The most recent experience was good but I feel as though the quality of service is trending downward. This last experience was expected but Brendan could have been more available. Perhaps they were short staff that evening but we had to wait longer seemingly for things to happen. Now prior to the most recent visit, we had invited a few more friends to the party so it was around 10 of us. Our server was a little on the rude and inattentive side but again i took it as they are busy. The server was a little annoyed when my wife asked if the kids meal can be ordered by adults. It was a joke but it seemed the server was annoyed by it. My family has enjoyed Tam’s for over two decades since I was dating and now with kids and aging parents it’s a place we go to often. However if the service is compromised and the food quality is the only thing that stands, then I may be looking elsewhere to enjoy prime rib and chocolate soufflé with the family. I hope that is not the case since we’ve just became gold vip members. We love Tam’s but hoping service will pick up.
The food was very good; just like at Lawry's. The decor was very unique and definitely a conversation starter.
Efficient as asked for to get to a speaker on time.
Food was bad, no flavor and when it was brought to the table everything looked the same color. We were rushed from the moment we walked in to the time they cleared the table. I can't believe it is in the same family as Lawrys.
One of my favorites. Whether it’s just because or a special occasion, I always feel at home & special there. The food is always wonderful.
This has always been a favorite of ours and for good reason. It's fool proof -- perfect. Even if you don't order the prime rib, everything else is more than satisfying too.
This was a return visit after many years. My husband is of Scottish heritage and enjoys haggis and other foods I'd never cook. While we enjoyed our dinner, I found our waitress a bit overbearing. She pushed side dishes, appetizers, desserts and the like to the point of annoying. She also wanted to take our order as she served our cocktails. We deliberately made early reservations - 6 p.m. on a Friday night - so that the restaurant would not be busy, noisy or crowded. It wasn't when we arrived and it wasn't when we left, close to two hours later. I had the feeling we had to fight for our relaxation, as if the restaurant had a line of people waiting for our table. In spite of these comments we look forward to returning. We ordered rarebit and everyone at the table liked it. My prime rib and creamed spinach were very good. The mashed potatoes??? We had trifle, which I thought was ordinary, having had it many, many times over the years. Since it was my husband's birthday, he was given a complimentary small trifle with a candle. We did choose a satisfying Bordeaux - in the $70 range.
The food was good but the service was lousy! Was never offered the dinner specials nor about the wine specials. End-up getting wine by glass. Dinner was served with-in 5 minutes of order taken. This supposed to be a fine dining restaurant - where poeple get to enjoy the ambience - not rushed. To make things worse the food was only semi-warm. The restaurant was not busy - had just opened for dinner service - so no excuse. We usually go for special occasions. Not worth the price for the horrible service.
First time in this restaurant. They're renovating the outside atea. The restaurant itself is homey, staffs are friendly, food was great and they have an excellent selections of Scotch, Bourbon and even a few Japanese whiskey . I would recommended this place. FYI this is a sister restaurant of Lawry's thats located in Beverly Hills. I'd recommend this place
My wife and I dined at Tam O'Shanter Wednesday night to celebrate Valentine's Day which was also our 20th Anniversary! We have dined there many times before as usually we have our office employee Chrismas Dinner at Tam O'Shanter for the past 10 years.
We expected to have a nice, quiet, romantic meal. However, shortly after we were seated, a family of four , including a 2 year old toddler, was seated directly next to us. As any other 2 year old, he was constantly talking loud and making noises, which made our meal anything but peaceful and quiet.
We will never again celebrate our Anniversary in Tam O'Shanter.
It was Valentine’s Day, the staff was great k but the food was disappointing. The Prime Rib was over cooked. We order the English cut Prime rib but the texture from piece to piece was different. Not well at all.
Overall I would t recommend the restaurant for the food but I would for a place to hang out and have a drink.
Love the Tam O’Shanter. I’d eat there everyday if I could.
Great food and wine
This was not a good night at the Tam.The service was slow. (The server had many fine qualities, organization was not one of them) We ordered the holiday special for $125. One prime rib and the other filet. The prime is billed as a Calif. cut per staff. A Calif. cut is several thin slices of prime. I got one thin slice. Asked for it medium to medium rare, it came rare. The prime came with mashed potato's and heavy gravy. I have never experienced prime rib with mashed potato's. Different! The filet was fine. The rest of the meal was fine. The bill arrived for $165. We were told the computer calculates the bill and the software only priced half of meal at the holiday discount. They fixed the bill. We have dined at The Tam for years, it will take a while for us to return, if we do. There are too many restaurants of this style and price range to accept substandard quality of dining.
The service was excellent at the table. Our food was good but needed to be hotter when served. The reception up front could be improved. We were waiting for one person to arrive in our party of four and would have preferred to be seated at our table rather having to wait at the entrance.
Great prime rib. Haven't been there in almost 20 years. It hasn't changed much. They are, however, remodeling the front of the restaurant to accommodate outdoor dining in the future.
As always, Tom O'Shanter delivers. Excellent Prime Rib, cooked to perfection, medium rare. Cream corn and Cream spinach were delicious. Service was outstanding. Robin was our server. She made us feel welcome and at home. We will be back....soon. Keep up the great work. This restaurant never disappoints.
Construction of an outdoor patio was underway ... that killed the outside ambiance and there was only Valet parking available as street parking very limited. Our table for two was quaint
and our server (Sarah) was delightful, friendly and attentive. The food was good, just not great. We did order the chocolate souffle for dessert (do it early) and it didn't disappoint! They
also served us dark and light bread and also brought us ONE strawberry parfait dessert to celebrate our anniversary. Why not two? All things considered, we will place this restaurant
on the 'once in a while' list.
Birthday -Walt Disney‘s table was fun
We had a round table for 8 and conversations was easy to hear. Food was good and the service was excellent
Our family had a wonderful first meal in LA here! Our server, Greg, was fabulous (and great with our kids). The Devils on Horse ack were scrumptious and I wish I had more room to finish my toad in a hole - so delicious! We loved the history and the warmth of the restaurant’s atmosphere and staff!
Excellent old school dining. Generous portions. Great service. An LA gem.
We had onion rings and a shrimp cocktail for our appetizers; onion rings were not cooked enough, the batter seemed to be "wet". The shrimp in the cocktail were small, nothing spectacular, could've been a bit larger. I had the prime short ribs and that was really good, only one thing, I'd prefer to have my carrots cooked a bit more. The wife had the fish and chips, maybe you can add more non-red meat options?
Both the NY Steak -which was the evenings Special- and the Prime Rib were undercooked.
Food was not very good, the music was too loud and the staff never smiles. I went because it had such good reviews. Maybe we went on a bad day. Who knows?
