Tam O'Shanter Ratings and Reviews
The Tam O'Shanter is a Los Angeles landmark. Delicious food, excellent service and a great atmosphere. Won the last of the old Los Angeles restaurants. The food never disappoints. Love this place and have are here many times and looking forward to many more visits. I rate this a 10+ restaurant
We were here for dine LA and we're shocked to find their bathrooms were port-a-potties. They were doing construction. It was disappointing and not a good impression for 2 of our friends who were dining at Tam for the very first time. The baked potato soup was not very good, but the prime rib was delicious as expected.
We went to Tam O'Shanter for the winter DineLA menu. The facility is currently being renovated to restore the outdoor patio dining that was originally on site. The only inconvenience is the restrooms are outside. However, the portable restrooms are very nice so there isn't any issues with the restroom service.
We had the dineLA menu and added Deviled eggs to our starters. The food was excellent and the service was top notch. We choose the prime rib and it was up to the Lawry standards. The sides of cream spinach and Yorkshire pudding were also very good. Our desserts were exquisite and decadent. I would recommend that everyone try the dineLA dinner menu since it is such a great deal and a great way to introduce yourself to this long-time LA gem.
I went here for Dine LA, so my review is based on that, and not on the normal Tam O'shanter menu.
I ordered the Lamb--and it was very sub par. Dry, tough, and bland.
The vegetables were good. But I didn't go to Tam O'shanters to eat carrots and kale.
My girlfriend's prime rib was also good, but that's to be expected at $50 a plate.
Overall, very disappointed.
My wife and I absolutely love The Tam! We try to visit every time we are in Los Angeles. The decor and ambiance remind us of our favorite classic Disney films. It's no wonder Walt Disney loved visiting the restaurant back in the day. Our favorite dishes include the prime rib, salmon and Toad in the Hole. Make sure to order the chocolate souffle. It's a phenomenal dessert that's a perfect way to end every visit to The Tam.
My wife and I wanted to visit the Tam O'Shanter after knowing it was one of Walt Disney's favorite restaurants. It was an absolutely fantastic experience. Very short wait for a table (we had reservations, but there was not a huge crowd standing in the parking lot), very prompt and frequent service by our server (I wish I remembered his name...he was great, and gave us a nice introduction to the history of the restaurant!). The food was excellent - my wife had the DineLA four-course meal, while I enjoyed Fish & Chips with a side of the Macaroni and Cheese.
I will definitely be coming back the next time I am in Los Angeles.
We are pretty much regulars, who have seen the changes over the past 20 years. This new change looks like an expanded patio adding more dining space, and new restrooms. We were fortunate enough to be sitting next to the famous Walt Disney Table, which had an engraved table marker and the artwork of the creator of Disney. As for food, we had the 2018 DineLA special menu, and I believe it is worth it to try the various foods, which have been added to this traditional time. Also, I was able to use Lawry's VIP rewards for an extra dessert, which made it all the sweeter of a deal. The cut of prime rib was a tad smaller than what I am used to, but just right for my appetite at the time. It's the first time I ate everything! If you want history and elegance, I would certainly recommend Tam O' Shanter for entertaining guests or relatives who have never been to LA.
This has become my family's New Year destination for the past 4 years. We enjoy the family atmosphere and the friendly staff, not to mention the great food. Before coming to USA, I lived in England and this restaurant is a reminder of the Sunday Lunches we use to have in London and then would go to the pub and sit in front of a roaring fire and enjoy a glass of beer or brandy.
This our go to favorite for special occasions, and in this case New Years Eve and also a birthday in our party. The place was as busy as we've ever seen it. They also had two people playing bagpipes and drum roaming through the restaurant every half hour or so that was both entertaining and very noisy. And also a band in the bar. But we wanted something special for New Years Eve and we got it. Food, drinks, and service is always first rate. And it was again on this busy night.
Our first time at this restaurant and we'll be back. It started with the warm bread that seemed fresh from the oven. We snacked on the rarebit while enjoying our cocktails. My prime rib was excellent and the sides, especially the creamed corn was superb. My wife's Scottish salmon served over sautéed spinach was as good as we've had. Throughout the meal, service was outstanding--ask for Howard.
Visiting during holiday season is so very special here. Strolling Victorian carolers will sing you any holiday song you can think of. Specialty holiday cocktails freshen up their classic menu along with a couple holiday featured entrees - though it's hard to pass up the classic favorites. The Prime Rib was excellent as usual. Attentive, but not intrusive service means it's a great place for really catching up with friends and enjoying the holiday atmosphere. The Tam is now a new holiday tradition.
Our go to for Christmas holiday get together with old friends. Little spends but atmosphere in the holidays worth it. I always get fish & chips ($17) since not huge red meat fan and it's ok; others got prime rib and were happy enough. Carolers during holiday week are terrific!
We have been going to the Tam for over 8 years for Christmas Eve dinner. Usually it's great but they were having an off night this year. Started out well, good apps and service. Then we waited literally an hour for our entrees (we timed it) and the meat was cooked well done even though we ordered medium rare. The waitress started avoiding us after about 30 minutes, as she could tell we were feeling impatient and there was probably nothing she could do. However I think offering some kind of discount would have been appropriate. An hour is a very long time to wait for a meal.
