About Talula’s Garden

Behind the wrought iron gate, past the herbaceous patio and through the atrium is Talula's Garden, the warm and elegant Washington Square eatery from Aimee Olexy and Starr Restaurants. The modern menu, prepared with carefully-sourced ingredients and a light European touch, changes with the seasons. The artful cuisine, hospitable staff, sustainable spirits, and a focus on cheese make the dining experience here incredibly memorable.

- exquisite food, wonderful ambiance, excellent service
- highly recommended
- cheese board had a lovely presentation; foccacia de recco was delicious, textured, and multi-layered; short ribs were melt-in-your-mouth; The Artist cocktail was yummy
- our only disappointment was being too full to attempt the desserts!

The atmosphere was very nice and the food was superb! The entire meal from the wine, cheese sampling to our entrees and finally the cappuccino was every I had hoped for and Mowery. The aroma of each dish was fantastic. Kudos to our waiter, Nathan, who anticipated our every need.

We returned with another couple for a special occasion after having a fabulous dinner 2 years ago. Hoping this evening was an outlier because it was disappointing in several ways. Entire restaurant was super cold. We changed tables but found out that the heat had broken earlier in the day, had been fixed but it would take awhile to bring the room to a comfortable temp. We had to retrieve our scarves and in one case a coat from the check space in order to sit and dine without shivering. Temperature was also a problem for some of the food. Their fondly remembered special rolls, warm and dripping with butter last time, arrived at room temp with non melted butter on top. My pumpkin soup was also just barely warm. We also remembered truly warm and friendly service which was not matched this time around. Server seemed distracted and reciting info by rote. Won't critique every dish but quality was not consistent. Add to all of the above that prices are on the expensive side and we left feeling like we spent the evening swimming upstream, sad that our memories were not close to being fulfilled by this latest experience.

The brunch was delicious. Squash frittata with a little salad and yummy potatoes. The frittata was served on top of a yogurt sauce. It was out of this world. I like the atmosphere. Just a little loud. There is plenty of space between tables which seems to be unusual in restaurants anymore. Great service.

Packed but that't to be expected for Sunday brunch. Waiter was pretty slow, but again, its Sunday. The food was warm coming out so that was disappointing. I've dined here a few times before so I know what it's capable of. If you are looking for more of a drink-friendly lunch at 1pm, then you can't go wrong. Just don't expect too much out of the food.

One of my top 5 favorite restaurant meals ever. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, but the food is so delicious it's worth it. The apple salad was different, fresh and delicious. Had the chicken dish and I've never had such a moist, delicious piece of chicken before. The sides were all yummy. Super beautiful ambience and I can only imagine in the nice weather how beautiful the outside garden is.

We went to Talula's Garden on a recent trip to Philly. It was great! The Cheese plate was well thought out, and great for two. The pasta was also amazing. The entree portions are substantial and the waitstaff, though helpful really steered us into way too much food, which is tough when you are staying in a hotel without the abilities to do left overs. While I would go back again, I would order much differently!

Talula's Garden is a darling restaurant, tucked away in a secluded nook off Washington Square. It has all the trappings of a remarkable dining experience, including a thoughtfully assembled menu with a wide range of interesting dishes. But I think the food itself falls short. I got the fall salad (apple, cheddar, peanuts, greens, vinagrette) which was terribly overdressed and beyond that just kind of odd, even though it came highly recommended by the waiter. My main course, the gnudi, was good but not memorable.

There are many other places that are less expensive where you will get a more fulfilling meal. If you're going for ambiance, though, this can't be beat.

We had a wonderful meal. The cheese tray was to die for! This remains one of my favorite restaurants. Fina, the manager, was very kind and even got my hot tea to go when our waiter did not serve it right away, as we had to leave for a show.

Excellent dinner with a friend,. Scallops were excellent and the rolls were very tasty. First course salad was both delicious and big. It was a busy night and a bit noisy so they gave us a complimentary dessert that was awesome. I will definitely return

One of the best and most unique culinary experiences I’ve ever had. Made a reservation specifically to do the tasting menu with my wife for her birthday and would have to say Talulas surpasses my expectations. Every course was so strong on its own and the wine pairing I ordered was unique and matched each course so well. They even accommodated my wife by making her a couple non alcoholic beverages free of charge. Would highly recommend and will look to come back for another special occasion!

My husband took me to Talula's Garden for my 50th birthday dinner. It was an exceptional experience from start to finish. We got there a little early and grabbed drinks at the bar. The stools were all taken and the bartenders were very busy, but they very quickly took notice of us, provided us the bar menu, and prepared our drinks. Once seated, we had a table opposite the entrance, so we did get some blasts of winter air when the door was opened, but it was tempered by the fact that the entryway was heated between the exterior and interior doors. This made a big difference! Our server, Amelia, was very knowledgeable and attentive. We ordered a cheese platter, two appetizers (tuna tartare and ricotta gnudi), two entrees (short-rib and salmon, and two vegetable sides (cauliflower and beets). Everything was absolutely perfect- we just ordered too much and had some leftovers to take home- not a bad thing! We didn't have room for dessert, but the kitchen sent out two salted caramel banana cake squares with a birthday candle (the best banana bread/cake I've ever had), which were the perfect ending to a perfect night! Thanks to Amelia and the staff at Talula's Garden for a wonderful start to my 50th year! The restaurant is beautiful, both inside and out, and I look forward to returning on a nicer weather day to enjoy the beautiful patio outside.

My husband and I don't get an opportunity much to go into town for dinner, so every meal counts for us. Talula's Garden did not disappoint. The ambiance was lovely and the service was wonderful. Our server was very knowledgeable about every item. There were choices for vegetarians on the menu which is always a plus for me. The bartenders were very attentive and friendly. We cannot wait to return in the warmer weather to dine outside in the lovely garden area. What a great choice for dinner!

I went to Talula's Garden with my husband and parents for my birthday and we had an amazing experience. The atmosphere is perfect and feels like you are inside of someone's kitchen. Upon being seated, we received a complimentary cheese sampler as well as toasted brioche with herb butter. They were both delicious!! We ordered the chicken liver toast and the foccacia flatbread. The Chicken liver toast was to die for and was easily shareable. The flatbread had apples, brussel sprouts and grain mustard on it. It was amazing!!

For dinner, my mom ordered the ravioli and because she has a mushroom allergy they were able to accommodate and swap out for other vegetables. I ordered the gnudi which was like gnocchi without the potato. Both were SO good. My husband got the scallops and my dad got the chicken. I didn't taste these, but the presentation was beautiful.

For dessert, they brought out a pumpkin sampler for my birthday and complimentary donuts! They were so warm and sugar-y. The best!

Their cocktail list is not overwhelming and has a lot of good options. I went with the dirty martini (as I always do). It was perfect! Will definitely recommend a dinner at Talula's for a special occasion!!
