Over Sauced, over-salted, overpriced. Starting with the creamy chop liver on toast all was well except for the overpowering flavor of the sour cherries. Moving on to the duck, the breast was good but again too much sauce in the confit. Lastly the steak and eggs was way too salty. As for pricing, a very small glass of Malbec was $14. The one appetizer, two mains, a glass of wine and a beer came to over $100 which in my opinion is overpriced for that type of food. So I would say skip this place. You can get better food at better prices in much quieter restaurants elsewhere in town.
It may not have felt spring outside but it tasted like it inside. Chicken liver toast with sour cherry, spring pea julep, escargot with farfalle, duck breast with wild rice, carrots with paneer and an international cheese plate to top it off! All in a lovely garden old farmhouse style setting. Perfection!
As always, food and service were beyond excellent. I had striped bass and my wife had shrimp and scallops. We shared a raw salmon appetizer. I had a six cheese plate for dessert and my wife had mint ice cream.
Loved the restaurant! Wonderful ambiance and food!
Fantastic and unusual menu. Loved it.
Great spot for any occasion. The biscuits that were served instead of bread melted in my mouth. The entrees were beautifully presented and delicious. Great choice of specialty cocktails! Service was perfect! Cannot wait to come back and sit outside on their patio, which is just beautifully landscaped!
Love, love, love this restaurant. Food is always awesome; the staff attentive and pleasant. And the cocktails - wonderful!
Wonderful experience. One guest had a severe allergy and they were amazing attentive and accommodating.
Very special place, elegant even with kids. Excellent food and let's not even talk about the WARM BRIOCHES WITH THYME BUTTERRRRRRRRRR.....
The food came out really quickly and it tasted fresh and amazing. I loved how they added a nice touch to our anniversary with complementary desert.
Get the tasting menu. It never disappoints. One of the top 3 restaurants in Philly hands down.
Talula's Garden is located near one of Philly's nicer urban parks and features outdoor seating that would probably have been nice if the weather in the Northeast was cooperative when we visited. Unfortunately, cold rain has been the rule lately, so we can't really say much about the garden dining, except that it was visible through the rain streaked windows.
The interior space is quite large, with high ceilings and oversized decor. It was comfortable in an impersonal sort of way. The wait staff was attentive and thorough, but overall the service felt a bit rushed, which matched the size of the place.
We both tried food orders that were based on home-made pastas and it is clear that the cook staff has a fine grasp on fresh pasta dishes. However, outside of the pasta and baked goods, some of the food options were quite bland. I tried a dish that offered escargot with a lovely garlic wine sauce and fresh pasta and the snails were soggy and tasteless. The rest of the dish was good, so I did not leave feeling like I had a problematic meal, but it was not a great choice.
The wine list was good with some thoughtfully selected domestic wines.
Overall - this has the feel of place that is starting to live on its prior reputation, and is slipping in quality. Maybe it was an off night, but there are better choices in Philly.
Wonderful place! I found myself stranded in Philly with one night to dine out. Right off the bat I loved the ambiance (if the weather is good enough to dine outside, do it!). Server was wonderful and made me feel very welcome even though I was by myself. She recommended a lovely wine and a fantastic cheese plate (I bought some on the way out as it was really good). I had the ravioli for dinner with a side of glazed carrots and they were both delicious. If I had another night in Philly I would not hesitate to come back.
Just delicious!!! service was outstanding. We all had fish main courses, the fried oyster appetizer also beet and fennel side yum, I am still salivating and need to go back soon to do tasting!!!
Sunday night was busy and noise level just fine. :)
Even on a rainy day brunch this was the place to be!! Cozy and comfortable we didn’t even notice how close we were to the table near us! The food was superb and the service outstanding. A special treat for sure. Really loved the cherry crepes, chicken and waffles, and rhubarb crisp!
The space was so cute and brunch was amazing. It was raining so we couldn't sit outside but that was okay. The prices are a little high, but the food is amazing. I had the crab Benedict and my girlfriend had the farm fresh omelet with local mushrooms, brie and truffle butter. We split a single pancake and the chef was so nice to let us get the raspberries and Elderflower whipped cream on top with lemon curd-AMAZING! Best pancake I have ever had! We will definitely be going back.
Really nice restaurant scene for a warm spring day and delicious food- both my girlfriend and I had a really great evening!
First time dining here for 3 best friends celebrating birthdays. Why did we wait so long??? We had fried oysters, ravioli with pine nuts, shrimp and scallop with beet hummus and everything was absolutely delicious. Service was excellent as well as the wine selection . Would highly recommend this restaurant.
Started with one of the cheese plates; will do so again next time. The complementary rolls were so good. Food was delicious. We ate outside; it was a great atmosphere. All of the wait staff was very friendly, etc.
Absolutely wonderful menu as always! Especially on a perfect evening to snag a table outdoors.
The best experience ever in the garden. Ridiculously good food.
Awesome service and experience! It was loud but not obnoxious. The food was fantastic and the server was amazing. Highly recommend the cheese plate. Loved this!
I was very much looking forward to dinner here, but was unfortunately underwhelmed. There was nothing special about any of the items we ordered. Several dishes were very bland, lacking any flavor or dimension. Our server was excellent and very attentive. The food was acceptable and nothing more. I’ve heard wonderful things so perhaps it was an off night for the restaurant?
Great experience, as always, very personal and friendly — made better by being able to be out in the garden for the first time this year!
I ate just the right amount
A beautiful location in the garden for an anniversary dinner. Service was great, dinner was just lovely. We had the bass and the “mezza” scallops and shrimp for dinner. Our appetizer was the buttermilk fried oysters and the spring pea salad. Both were beautiful prepared and served. At the bar we ordered a cheese plate and cocktails and we were delighted with the cheese selection. A great evening and would definitely recommend.
Very nice ambiance, but unfortunately very very noise. Good food, although not exceptional. Excellent cheeses for tasting and good wine list. Service was very friendly. I like this restaurant, but it is more appropriate for groups than a special date.
Amazing tasting menu!
Peas, ham and goat cheese pasta was kinda bland. Disappointing. But cheese plate great and beat veggies yum! Beautiful restaurant, if it wasn’t so windy sitting outside would have been awesome
Some of the very best food I’ve had in Philly. Worth every penny. Restaurant extremely well run; staff were very attentive but not at all overbearing.
Excellent evening! Great food, service and ambiance.
After our second visit to Talula's Garden, we continue to be surprised and amazed in the best possible way by everything the staff does. The food is creatively made using mostly locally sourced ingredients, and combines unusual combinations of food, vegetables, pastas, fruits, cheeses, and sauces in inventively delicious ways. The wine list is excellent, and priced reasonably (for a restaurant), with a wide variety of grape types, styles, and origins. There are excellent cocktails as well. The waitstaff is consummately professional, warm and friendly without hovering, and all the rest of the wait staff are almost invisibly efficient. We warmly recommend Talula's for any meal, and special evenings out as well.
Talula’s Garden was recommended by a friend, and it did not disappoint! Great ambiance with equally delicious food and pleasant service.
Extraordinary flavors for each dish. Excellent meal from the fried oysters (although presentation on crumpled wax paper was odd) to the snow pea salad (truly outstanding!) even dessert and tea selection was fantastic. We will be back!
Delightful restaurant ambience; exceptional food; wonderful service! Very happy we decided to have dinner at Talula’s Garden.
Lovely time at brunch. They had heaters on in the outdoor seating area/garden, but still too chilly due to shade (visited early April). Seated indoors with beautiful natural light from lage windows. Excellent carrot-orange juice, French press coffee. Most memorable was the brunch side salad topped with fresh dill fronds & parsley & raw fennel.
Great experience.. great service.. beautiful atmosphere.. a little pricey.. but everything was wonderful
Amazing Brunch as always!!
This was my first dinning experience at Tallulah's Garden. Friends raved about the restaurant and I read many reviews online. The food and ambiance did not disappoint. Our waitress was very knowledge about the wine selection and entrees and was able to provide great recommendations. We received little buttery brioches prior to our starters which were scrumptious. The appetizers were surprisingly larger than I had expected. I ate the pea salad on a bed of ricotta cheese while the other guests ate the clam chowder and a fish carpaccio appetizer. The main courses were delicious beyond belief. I had the ricotta ravioli and couldn't finish the whole plate. The other guest had the sea bass fillet which looked delicious. Overall, it was a great experience and we'll definitely return again.
