Talley's Kitchen and Bar Ratings and Reviews
Very nice restaurant. Reservations at 6:00 and the place was full at 6:30. A little for everyone. Great soup/flatbread. We had the mushroom soup which was excellent, flatbread and panko chicken. Friendly staff.
Very enjoyable. Will go back
Had 7:15 Saturday reservation for two and were seated promptly. Our server, Mandy, was terrific and very knowledgeable about the menu and wines to match. The baked goat cheese appetizer, onion soup and yesterday's lentil soup were all excellent. The braised short rib was very tasty and enough to share for my wife and me. Add a bottle of sensual chocolate wine (Malbec and Syrah) and it was an excellent meal. It was quiet enough for conversation until the live singer started after 8PM. We'll take that into account next time.
With only two other tables occupied, our server pressed is for and order without as much as a smile. The descriptions given were vague. We were left on our own after the food was served, despite needing to correct the meat temp of one order. The rest of our food was good. The music playing was odd and difficult to either listen to or talk over. We asked that it be turned down. Later in the evening the music genre changed; perhaps at the request of additional guests. Our server did not improve, unfortunately.
This will be on my go-to list of favorites for local dining. There was a fair going on in the streets so there were a lot of walk-ins with children which led to a lot of noise but tolerable. I will return when less hectic. Food was outstanding, gourmet. Waitress was exceptional, attentive but not bothersome. Highly recommended.
The service was horrible. My husband ordered a drink and never came. We saw our server once when we ordered an appetizer. we were still waiting to place an entree order and awaiting our drinks, when we decided this was a waste. We paid for our app and left. Again, seeing our waiter once in about 30 min. He Never checked to see how the app was , if we needed anything, etc. The food smelled good and the appetizer was good, but would not recommend based on the service.
Five of our group of six had the Tuesday steak and frites special - clean plates all around! Well prepared, simple, nice cut of beef. Not too much. The seafood dish was large scallops on a bed of risotto - elegantly plated and well prepared. Would dine at Talley's again tomorrow! Nice blend of all age groups and some young families. Casual, an energetic volume but easy to chat.
I wanted to like this place and some things I did. But my husband ordered the filet medium rare and it was way overcooked. I don't know if it was the kitchen or the server put in the order as medium well. He didn't want to say anything because he didn't want to send it back (I wanted them to be aware for future). But I think if you can't cook a filet something needs fixing. The filet was thick so to have no pink whatsoever even in the very center, then it was neglected in a warmer or seriously overcooked, neither are acceptable. I had the trout which was good.
Talley's Kitchen is a neighborhood gem. A great alternative to Naperville's crowded downtown, Clarendon Hills is compact and cozy with easy parking. The casual, lively restaurant was hopping at 8pm on a Sat night, with a good mix of young families, dates, and large groups. The food was very good; I enjoyed my spicy chicken pasta dish, and my date liked the meatloaf. Service and ambiance were great. But the highlight for me was the glass of sparkling wine I ordered; a New Mexican Brut from the Gruet Winery in Albuquerque. It's perfectly crisp and tart and dry and bubbly, and may be the best champagne I've ever tasted. Thanks for introducing me to it.
Our first time here, and the food was delicious and a great price value! However, it is very noisy and hard for my wife and I to chat unless we yelled. Also, I think they need more wait staff -- the service, though carefully done, was slow. Our meal, nothing fancy, took almost 2 hours. Any place can have a misstep on occasion, and this one is definitely worth another try. We were there at 6:15 on a Thursday. We will try an hour earlier on a weeknight next time and hope for faster service and easier conversation. The wine list is very good, by the way!
Been a while since we've been there for an early Saturday night dinner (~6:30). Last time was pretty much a bad experience (service & food). This time totally different - good & good. Cocktails were simple (a gin and a manhattan) but prompt and well poured/mixed. Appetizers: Pork Wings generous size, good flavor but just a little heavy on sauce (Ginger BBQ); Green Bean appetizer could not have been better - crispy on the outside, snap-fresh inside; Gnocchi were 3.5/5.0 but could have been 5.0 if only the garlic was just a little lighter and some of the gnocchi were not burnt. Service was great! Busy room but still managed a friendly, attentive waitress ... and LAST but certainly not least ... owner was ever present, running food, chatting up the diners, making it very known that she cared that the service went smoothly and we were all very welcome! Made you glad you chose this restaurant.
This was our first visit to Talley's Kitchen and won't be our last! Our menu choices were cooked to perfection. The scallops over risotto were tender and flavorful. Our server, Mandy made great recommendations for entrees and she knows her wine pairings. We had a great time, great food and the homemade ice cream was a delicious finish!
First time there. We waited awhile to be waited on and to get drinks even though it wasn't even half full. After that, service was more attentive. Everything from cocktails, wine, appetizers, dinner and dessert was good. It wasn't very noisy, so we could have easy conversation, but again, it wasn't crowded. I would go back.
We have dined at Talley's since it opened and have always had a delicious, hot outstanding meal. They do change their menu from time to time which offer new fare for someone who goes there regularly.
The servers are always attentive, courteous, and truly enjoy what they do. They are very expressive when talking about the specials, or just to ask how something is prepared. Cocktails are always done to perfection. A great place to dine....
Four of us visited Talleys on a quiet Thursday night. Our food was delicious; the tomato and mozzarella flat bread was flavorful and had just the right amount of cheese! Homemade meatloaf over mashed potatoes was the perfect comfort food for a chilly evening. My only complaint was that the waitress interrupted us four times to try and take our order in a ten minute span. We felt completely rushed that we were not allowed to enjoy our cocktails.
Four of us went for dinner and loved everything about Talleys. Super easy to park in sleepy little Clarendon Hills. I had the Talley's Lemonade/Tea special cocktail and it was truly delicious. We split the fried green beans, also good. I ordered the short ribs and they were excellent too. The four of us split the Croissant Bread Pudding, and it was sinfully good. Can't wait to go back!
