Just go anywhere else. This place is awful.
This was my second time to Talde and it did not disappoint! I was in town visiting my sister and begged her to make sure we had a reservation during my stay - I had been dreaming about going back since my first time a couple years ago! I love the ambiance of the restaurant and unique menu offerings. It was delicious and wonderful!
Birthday! Good time. Would’ve liked more dessert options but other than that it was great.
The menu was spectacular, along with the ambiance and buildout of the restaurant. Definitely worth it.
Talde has a really cool vibe. The decor and seating arrangement is well done. But I don't go out to eat to admire cool lighting and neat tables :) The food... is pretty average. It reminded me of what I make at home. Not quite "restaurant" quality, but still pretty good. The kind of food I'd make and say "next time I won't do that or add that ingredient" and it would probably be better. The dishes are creative, but to me, they just didn't work.
It just misses. Even the cocktails, while far from bad, just weren't home runs. I doubt I'd come back here to eat. Maybe if I was hanging out at the bar and getting some apps just with a bunch of friends, but, even then...
Over rated restaurant in my opinion.
Both the food and service left a lot to be desired. Right from getting seated it was not a good experience. We were welcomed by a hostess after a short wait at the reception and were shown a dimly lit table in the dingy rear end near the restrooms and below some pipes. This is at 6pm with many empty tables and we having a reservation via opentable for a party of three. When we asked to be moved to another table the request was denied saying it was reserved for a larger party. But that table was empty throughout our dinner and was later occupied by another party of just two!
Our waitress was in training and she was the only bright spot in service and attitude shown to us the whole dinner there. She was friendly, warm, polite, and talked to us well while she was watched over by her trainer standing beside her who said no word to us! The guy who served water or drinks neither made eye contact or said a word. Not even an audible response when I said thank you. But we were pushed to order all dishes at once and not given time to decide after ordering appetizers. One of those things I felt they try to do with customers who they know wont protest such ways. And after our order both disappeared until we finished and had to look for them to get us the cheque.
My Prosecco was served not chilled in 75 degree weather in a wide mouthed red wine glass! My vegetarian Phad Thai was made with no veggies except Mushrooms even though I had requested them to add in more veggies and they said will do it. My request for some tofu to be tossed in was denied while they do charge the same price for this veg phad Thai as the seafood one on the menu! I do not know how my friends meat based dishes tasted but they said were good. Later when the live performance started the sound was too loud for us and we decided to leave ASAP.
I will not be recommending or visiting this restaurant ever again! It is very un American in service and food was just OK.
Every bite was absolutely delicious. We all had a little bit of everything. Sharing is encouraged there. They give generous entree portions.
We came for Valentine’s Day. The speakeasy downstairs is very cool. We got the pretzel dumplings and bao sandwich for appetizers. Both very yummy. The octopus salad and crab fried rice were really good. Very cool spot!
Stylish, very loud, chairs too low, food doesn’t come at the same time by design, food was ok but not great, salmon came in a pot covered in broth which was fine, but still had skin what is then hard to do remove when in a broth. Rice never showed up and we had to follow up to find out 15 min later that the rice cooker was broken. The substitute came much later, my dinner was basically a piece of salmon. To top it I got an email that we were a no show. To be fair they took off the bill the side and my glass of wine.
The atmosphere & ambiance was great. However, I was a bit disappointed with the food quality. I ordered the short rib with noodle and didn’t think it was up to par with 4 stars from Yelp. Also our blue crab rice arrived when we were nearly 3/4 done with our meal.
Our waitress was okay although she dissuaded me from ordering the grilled octupus which turned out to be great - a colleague ordered it and had an opportunity to taste it.
May return but will be more careful as to what I order.
Plum basil margarita had no taste of basil or plum. Bartender gave wrong change back. Not engaging. Server was nice but was given too many tables at once. Host never checked us in and made us wait for table longer than we had to. Food was great. Dessert was okay. For what they charge, should be more up to par.
Large space, and table good for large groups.
Food was good but lukewarm when served. Proportions are for sharing, Asian style.
Went to Talde in JC a few days ago for the 3rd time. Food is delicious as always. Service was very slow, took over half hour for our appetizer to be be brought to our table. Literally 2 mins later, out came our enteee. It was a Saturday night so that could account for the slowness if they were busy. Regardless, I would definitely recommend to go and when yo do, you MUST try the #6 Bao!
Seriously paltry vegetarian options, the most soggy shisito pepper dish I've ever had and just lackluster service all around.
This was a birthday celebration. Food did not come out on time. Food was salty. Overpriced. Poor service. Couldn’t bring out any type of dessert to Birthday celebrant. Would not come back.
I came to check out their Hudson Restaurant Week (HRW) 3-course pre fixe. I personally think it was a great deal what I ordered. I got the Grilled Octopus for my appetizer, Pork Sisig for main, and Flan Spring Rolls for dessert. All were great! I would totally come back for the octopus, hands-down. I also love the spicy vinegar that they serve here, too! It reminds me of what I use as a condiment in the Philippines. The drinks here were also great! I got the Magellan’s Curse; definitely a hit! You also can’t beat the $5 wine/beer special with the HWR. Service, on the other hand, was a little rough. I’m assuming the kitchen got slammed all at the same time so food took long. When dessert came, the (maybe) manager dropped off an order of Flan Spring Roll to my fiancé (though he had two orders with him) and left. So I waited longer to get my Flan Spring Rolls. I felt bad because the couple next to us have been waiting for their second dessert while we were eating our main course, and we both got the dessert at the same time. The managers seemed flustered at times, but like I said, it could have been just a busy night for them. I’d definitely come back!
Restaurant week was disappointing. They ran out of many items, portions were small, food wasn’t hot
Went to Talde for Hudson Restaurant Week. Plates were very small and underwhelming. We did not receive our dessert after being in the restaurant for two hours. Food was okay but not filling. We do not recommend trying the restaurant week menu, it wasn’t worth the money at all.
I have been to Talde in Brooklyn a handful of times and it became one of my favorite restaurants in my neighborhood. Unfortunately the experience at the JC restaurant was not the same as BK. Obviously the tapas/family style is meant to come out as it's ready. But it took two hours for two apps and two entrees to come out. The server was extremely apologetic and was doing everything she could. But for a slow Monday night, the experience as less than ideal. Not sure what the issue was in the kitchen, but that is a snails pace. The food, per usual was good, though the two entrees were actually cold. We were hungry so we decided not to send it back. Hopefully this was just an off-night for the kitchen, but something to be weary of going in.
Cool bustling neighborhood spot. Great for a date or a group, as all dishes are meant to be shared. Definitely make a reservation in advance or you might be facing a long wait for a table. Have dined here several times and they food has blown me away. The food is creative and you'll find dishes and flavors that you can't find anywhere else. Favorite must have dish is the branzino dish. It is served with wanton wrappers so you can make delicious mini fish tacos. It pairs well with the cashew vegetable rice which is flavorful and not oily at all, and the bok choy or whichever vegetable dish they have. My husband loves the spring rolls - He says it is the best he has ever had. The sauce for it is so good, it should be bottled and sold. There is usually only one choice for dessert... Right now they are serving these amazing potato chip pretzel crust cookies with chocolate ganache. They are an addicting and perfect combination of salty and sweet. You'll see why Dale Talde won a Top Chef cookie challenge with this recipe when you take one bite. This is becoming one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. The only thing not perfect about it is the service. It has been ok but not at the level it should be at. One time the waitress never checked on us until we finished eating. My husband would have ordered another drink if she stopped by earlier. Another time, I told the waitress we were celebrating a birthday. The waitress changed shifts and the second waitperson was not informed. Still, the food is so good we keep coming back.
We really liked the space and the food but the service could have been a bit better. I had told them in advance it was my wife's birthday but they totally failed to acknowledge that when we were there.
The service was extremely slow
Wonderful experience! Great food and service. Perfect place to go with a group and share plates. Highly recommend the Kung Pao chicken wings, the Bao #6 spicy chicken sandwich, the pork with crispy noodles, and especially the blue crab fried rice...so yummy!
Talde feels like a Gastropub that has a few innovative menu selections, but certainly more choices of drinks than main meals. What they do offer is tasty and interesting, just very limited selection. So if you want to drink first and mostly, with a side meal- it's great.
Delicious food, my only issue was although it was a very cold night, the restaurant was freezing inside . My people kept their coats on! The food was delicious
Very simple, the food is really good the service is not! They are halfway there.
Food was delicious, service was just ok. It took forever to get a drink after we arrived. It would be really nice to see valet parking.
Cool place. Interesting food. A little bit hit and miss. Staff is friendly and professional.
The food was very salty. Octopus was excellently cooked but the olives were super salty. The sauce for the Singaporean noodles and pad Thai were very salty, even after sending back to the kitchen. The first time the noodles came out they were covered in the dark colored sauce.. The branzino was great. Great service, very friendly!
Great food and very attentive and thoughtful staff. They asked if there were any food allergies/intolerances and were able to make recommendations based on what we were trying to avoid. Food was absolutely delicious and the ambiance was great! Highly recommend!
Excellent as always!! Kung pao wings and dumplings are delicious and creative.
Always good as we are regulars. Can’t go wrong with the fried chicken.
Overall food was great. Service started off a little slower than we like but our server made up for it with great suggestions and better attentiveness once drinks were ordered. One really irritating thing to me was that the hostess was preoccupied with her phone for longer than I thought necessary when we arrived, I finally had to ask her to help us. At the end of the meal while we were walking out, no effort was made to say thank you or acknowledge our visit. I was expecting more after spending almost 200 dollars for the meal
I have been to Talde several times before but it's been 1.5 years since the last time (due to moving - not the restaurant). Food is still great as long as you are not expecting "authentic" Asian cuisine. The food is a playful take on your familiar Asian dishes and packs a lot of flavor. The restaurant is nicely decorated however, the noise level in the restaurant is high! It's not for intimate conversations. Overall, glad to be back after 1.5 years.
The restaurant was not open for brunch. Since I had made a reservation and had people coming who weren't from the area I would I have expected an email or phone call. I don't understand what happened here?!
The MC Bao was absolutely delicious. Meat was tender and a great smokey hoisin style sauce. The pork dumplings were super crispy and flavorful filling. The shrimp shumai were filled with pieces of shrimp, not the usual paste you get elsewhere, and went well with the corn and Chinese sausage on top. The only slight disappointment was the yuzu guacamole. It was served like sushi on crispy rice. While it tasted good, there wasn't enough guacamole considering that was the star. The short rib kare kare was incredible. The meat was fall apart tender and the coconut, peanut sauce was light and savory. All in all, it was outstanding!
Too much hype too little good food.
Over priced in every item on the menu.
Fun spot, great food, good band. Service was a little lacking - waitress was nice, just wasn’t terribly attentive.
Had a reservation for a group of 9 friends to celebrate a Birthday. Food was amazing, but service was awful. We were packed uncomfortably into a booth despite the spacious table running down the middle of the restaurant. Our server was absolutely miserable. We spent most of our dinner with empty glasses, and only half of us were given the opportunity to order more than 1 drink in a 2 hour period. The table was filled with 5 industry people, and we couldn't have made it any easier for this waiter. As much as I love the food here, I may not return, and if I do, I will never return with a group.
Delicious. Classy but not frippy. Had a great time.
