About Talavera Cocina Mexicana
Mexico, home of Talavera, the unique fine art pottery from the 16th Century, native of the city of Puebla.
This genuine and refined Mexican spirit of the Talavera art sets the ground for the spirit of our menu. From the "Huarache" grill, a series of delicate dishes served on a corn tortilla base, to a variety of regional specialties from Sonora to Oaxaca, from Michoacan to Puebla, from Jalisco to Yucatan.
Talavera, the art of a genuine and refined taste of Mexico.

Talavera Cocina Mexicana Ratings and Reviews
The service was really slow and we sat waiting on refills for our drinks, chips, etc. Our waiter was never around and always sitting around talking with other staff. The Octopus dish that we’ve had before which was originally a nice big size was now nothing more than the size of an appetizer with no side dish to help fill you up. I would have to consider hard about going back. Service and quality has definitely gone down.
I reserved a booth table not near the restrooms in a reservation I made 2 days prior to the Birthday dinner I was having there. When arriving 15 minutes early to the reservation on a Saturday night, our reservation requests were completely ignored by the hostess who did not even make attempts to accommodate us as customers. She was reluctant to help and did not even offer us any food or drinks as courtesy for the inconvenience. We proceeded to wait for 30 minutes past our reservation time for a booth to open up as requested.
When making a reservation, Talavera is very inconsiderate of your requests and even ignores them. The hostess was rude, unapologetic, and lazy.
Other than that the food was delicious and our waitress was great.
This was the first time I visited this restaurant but my friends' had been there before. We ordered soup and appetizers. The soup arrived within minutes of ordering, before we even received our drinks, and it was lukewarm. A few minutes after our soups arrived, the appetizers were brought. It felt like we were being rushed the entire time. We even asked the server to hold off on the appetizers as there was no room on the table, and he advised that he had to bring the food as the kitchen requested. All of the food items were spicy, even the soup. It was a disappointment overall.
The major problem is that we came for a quiet family conversation. When we arrived there was a loud band going table-to-table. We asked about it and were told the music would end in 15 minutes, so we stayed. The music did not end. We could not have the conversation we needed to have. We were very disappointed. There is nothing wrong with having music, but we should have been accurately informed about the fact that it would continue for a long time.
Went there Christmas night. No wait. Unfortunately was served by the bartender who was a lovely combination of rude, incompetent and ignorant. Started with ordering a Guacamole appetizer off the menu. He asked if I wanted a small or large one. Since I was by myself I figured small was fine. He neglected to mentioned that "small" was not an appetizer but rather a side dish, hence no tortilla, etc. When I asked where was the tortilla the response was basically, "that's what you ordered". When I explained the flaw in his logic the tortilla' s eventually (10 minutes) showed up.. Main course shows up but I was out of my soft drink. Took my glass to the bar. (i was at at table in the bar area.) Asked for a refill. I was near the gun. Said he would bring it to me. Should have been a warning as the gun was nearby. Drink never showed up. When I went back and mentioned I wanted the refill now. He told me I was rude. At that point paid the tab though I had eaten literally one bite of the stake and left. Learned my lesson. Fire the moron!
My third time here - and it gets better every time. The standard margarita was as good as I have ever had in Mexico. My bill ended up much lower than I expected too, given very reasonable prices for good wines (half of what a nearby restaurant charges for it cheapest bottle). Queso fundido con chorizo is divine.
I've been to this restaurant before, the food is usually good but pricey. On this trip the service was not great, our waiter barely checked on us, we had empty plated and glasses for a while before he came by and we had to ask him to refill or clear up for us. One of our party said the ceviche tasted like it was from a can but they changed her plate without issue. It's a nice location and drinks are good but not sure if it would be my go to place.
Regular diners since Talaver opened, we have watched a steady deterioration over time. It isn’t the restaurant it once was. Speculations as to why would make this review needlessly long, but it feels like Talavera has become the barely tolerated stepchild of the Jaguar group. The owners are rarely if ever there, they have had a parade of managers, and the menu has shrunk. It’s as if nobody’s “running the ship”, and no one cares. C’mon Lalu and Sergio! You had a good thing going. Restore it to its previous excellence.
