Taka Sushi Ratings and Reviews
Food was great, but like most nicer sushi restaurants, is not inexpensive. Indoor seating is somewhat limited. Lots of outdoor seating, but outside seating not very desirable when Atlanta is 90+ degrees & 100% humidity. Service was very friendly, but was slow or uneven at times (e.g., too much time between table visits, especially for a sushi restaurant where "add on" orders are common). Beer list should be much better in Atlanta. Wouldn't be that hard to add non-Japanese beers to the menu. Japanese IPA was $8.50 & was mediocre. Stick to Japanese lager/pilsner styles with current beer menu.
So glad I found this sushi restaurant online. We normally go to Ichiban for sushi but have friends in Sandy Springs and Taka was much closer for us and got great reviews online. The food was excellent and the service from our waiter was great. Definitely a neighborhood gem if you're a sushi lover. Good wine and beer selections. We will dine at Taka again in the near future.
The sushi is truly outstanding and among the best that I have had. The fish is amazingly fresh. Unfortunately, the service needs a lot of work. We had a reservation for 7:30 and arrived promptly. We were ignored for 15 minutes as the service staff seemed to flounder around in total confusion. Despite having a reservation, it was apparent that there was not an available table. After someone finally acknowledged us, we were asked to share a table with another party or sit at the sushi bar, which we declined. We were finally seated about 30 minutes after our reserved. Afterward, the service was OK (not great) and the sushi was fabulous. If Taka will work out their reservation management and service problems, this will be a great place. We will try it again, but another poor service experience might be enough to send us elsewhere.
We had a casual business dinner on a weeknight. The decor is modern, but nice if a bit spartan for the price range. Service was accommodating and smooth. However, the star of the experience was the food! The sushi was some of the best I've had anywhere, even better than some famous restaurants in Japan. Everything we tried was absolutely fresh and melt-in-your-mouth-OMG delicious. If you think you don't like sushi you really should try Taki before judging! The menu emphasizes traditional hand-made nigiri, simple and of the finest quality, plus several interesting appetizers and creative rolls. They also have an outstanding selection of top-shelf sakes (the really good ones that are served chilled). We will definitely go there again.
