Taco Rosa - Irvine Ratings and Reviews
Our Open Table reservation was for a special occasion, my 74th birthday. When we arrived there was no mention of a birthday celebration by the hostess or by anyone else as the evening progressed. The special occasion part was missing! Even though our food was good, our server basically ignored us throughout the evening. I understand that they had a large group, however, that is no excuse. This may be a place for a casual lunch, but NOT a place for a special occasion! I expected better!
We had a party of 8 and it was obvious from the beginning our server was very annoyed to have a big group. Even though we had a reservation they had us at 2 separate tables. When we insisted they be put together the attitude started. I had to get up and find a server twice to get drinks started. When we still weren't getting any attention I told a manger. From then on, ther server came by regularly, but he gave us dirty looks and snapped at us. The manager never came by to follow up.
We will absolutely never go here again. Service ruined the dinner.
Made a reservation for my brother's birthday. Food was good as always. I had the tacos de filets which were delicious . Washed down the tacos with a Don Julio Margarita; also good. Our server Alberto was awesome: great service and very engaging. Will definitely look for him next visit.
If you're looking for great Mexican upscale dining, Taco Rosa is the place! The paella was great! My only criticism is the hard push for mezcal in all their drink options. I personally am not a fan, but if you like it then this is the place for you. The servers are great and attentive.
We've been to Taco Rosa a few times and this visit left us wanting a little more. I will say that the house margarita was very good and, unlike so many mixed drinks, I could tell that there actually was a fair amount of tequila in it! The guacamole was delicious and the presentation is so pretty! We ordered some different tacos and they all needed salt (in my opinion) and we had to ask our server for S & P shakers (I hate when they're not on the table!). The biggest turn off to me were the hanging curtains in between seating sections of the restaurant. The top poles/hooks were SO caked with dust, it was awful! It was slow when I arrived before my husband (4:30 pm) and one of the servers was cleaning the bottom poles/hooks but, sadly, he never looked up (not that they can clean those during open hours, a ladder would be needed). Noticing that made me more closely scrutinize some other areas that needed some attention with a dust rag! It also made me try not to think about what the kitchen might look like...
It's not the best food around and for what they charge you can get much better. But if you're looking for something local in Irvine it's not too bad. Your bill for two adults and 2 kids will quickly be $120 with only 2 margaritas. They do have a decent bar area outside to sit at.
I had been here before on a business lunch and decided that it was a place I needed to bring my wife to. I brought her for a late lunch/early dinner date and she fell in love with this place.
Our server, Octavio, was awesome. He was very friendly, personable and accommodating to our questions with regard to the menu and drinks. We will definitely be returning soon.
Food delivery was very slow. This is not the first time this has happened. Weekdays for lunch seems to work okay, but Friday and Saturday nights the kitchen does not seem to be able to keep up with the load.
We will avoid those nights
The food was outstanding. Interesting combinations of fresh ingredients and classic dishes. I had tomatillo chicken enchiladas with a side of chopped grilled vegetables. The serving was very generous with lots of chicken and two mild sauces.
We came at the same time as two large groups and our service was really lacking. Servers ignored our requests for help at times, but when they had time, they really tried to do their jobs.
Met a friend. Service was OK. My friend requested something with her guacamole and it came wrong. She made due, but still.
Lunch portion of fajitas was just right. Got chips+guac, chicken fajitas, with rice and beans for $15. Was pretty good sized meal.
Waited 15 minutes for the check. "No, seriously, please let me pay you for my meal..."
I have always enjoyed the excellent and authentic cuisine at Taco Rosa. However with its new menu , it is now probably the best in Orange County. If you love Mexican food you absolutely, positively must try the food here. Prices are quite reasonable. Service is excellent and attentive. Perhaps you'll even lucky enough to get Memo (Guillermo) as your waiter.
The side dishes are exquisite beyond words. Make sure and try them!
The food was amazing. The service was not up to par though. It took more than ten minutes for a server to ask me for my drink order. I was only dining with one other person and it took her over 15 minutes once she arrived to get a drink. Then it took even longer to order. The food was delicious though. The servers were nice but it took a long time
