About Taco Republic
It’s a taco shop, taco joint or taqueria. This laid-back, original style taqueria brings guests a diversity of flavors from Mexican streets and marketplaces where homemade “street-style” tacos originated. Now the opportunity to eat “real-deal” tacos in a casual, independent, not-your-standard-Mexican restaurant is available to all. At Taco Republic we use traditional Mexican meats like Barbacoa and Cochinita Pibil atop authentic tortillas and topped with the freshest ingredients. We create ethnic street food by slow cooking, smoking and braising meats to get the simplicity of freshness and exquisite flavor. Taco Republic establishes a new category of neighborhood taco shop in the Midwest, producing casual comfort and extreme value in a unique environment.

Taco Republic Ratings and Reviews
As visitors from out of town, this taco joint came recommended to us. The salsa was awesome, the chips coated with grease (lots of grease), and the tacos - OK. We went for weekend lunch and it was pretty hopping. We didn't try margaritas, so i can't speak for the booze. If it was a place in my neighborhood i'd go back, but i don't think its a destination restaurant. This being said, i won't be back.
The tacos were well flavored and put together nicely. My tostada was drenched in sauce from the tacos on the plate which made it difficult to eat. The jalepeno margarita was WAY too spicy, but that's to be expected (my fault for ordering it). However, the highlight of the entire dining experience was the corn. I'm not a huge corn fan, but this stuff was amazing. I would eat corn more often if it came prepared like this. As for returning, it's possible. A bit out of the way, and if I'm going to make the journey, odds are I'm headed to Joe's KC, but if the line is too long, you'll see me at Taco Republic.
For the second time, staff has said Open Table is down and couldn't check me in. When I confirmed with the server, I'd get my points she said they don't take reservations. When I showed her my reservation on OT, she said that must be new because she's never heard of it. Seriously?!?! Two tables seated after me, were given drinks and chips before I was. I then had to ask for them myself. This was the second time I've been there and service was pretty bad the first, but this was even worse. The food is good once you get it.
This is a trendy, neighborhood restaurant that was reasonably priced with fresh, good food. It's a good thing they give you chips and salsa because the wait time for the food is incredibly long considering they're only making tacos. Our server had a pompous attitude which was not okay. OpenTable wasn't working when we arrived, however, our reservations let us bypass the 30 minute wait time. The outside dining space is great, if you like eating outside. It got very chilly and we were nowhere near a heater. Good experience, but definitely room for improvement.
We tried six different tacos between the two of us. ALL of them were good. The beer braised brisket was really outstanding. Don't skip the freshly made churros for desert. If you have ever eaten a hard dried out prepared in advance churro before, this will remind you what a churro is really supposed to taste like--DELICIOUS! The service was good too which made for a very pleasant experience; we would highly recommend!
I walked in the restaurant and the staff had our table ready. My guests trickled in and the restaurant was very accomodating. Our server was friendly and helped us order rather quickly. I had a sage Margarita that was tasty. The food was delicious. Lots of variety on their menu. Dessert was tasty too. I would definitely come back.
On a last minute decision to head into downtown for the night, I had a difficult time finding a reservation at any restaurants on the Plaza. I stumbled across Taco Republic on open table. I had never been but my husband had heard good things. We decided to try and it exceeded my expectations. Food was great and it's cheap which is always a plus! We all ordered three tacos and I loved that none of them tasted anything alike. It's not like when you go to a chain plain and by the time you get to the third you can't eat anymore. My favorites were the veggie taco and the shrimp taco. My husband's favorite was the pork belly taco. We were very impressed and will definitely be back.
Sat in the outdoor (enclosed) area on a cold night, and it was very comfortable. Food was delivered quickly, but we were really disappointed in each of the tacos we tried. Nothing spectacular for the $3+ each we paid. Fundido was perhaps the best we've had in KC.
