What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation
7.7

Taboon is one of the best restaurants in Hell's Kitchen, especially if you get down on Middle Eastern food. But also even if you don't.

Ratings 7.5-8.0:These are restaurants that are reliable, tasty, and particularly good for whatever we have deemed them “Perfect For.” Hit up a 7.7 for Date Night with confidence, as long as you don’t need the restaurant to be the most interesting thing that happens that night.

The restaurant was noisy but the quality of the food and service made up for it. My only complaint was that when my husband and I ordered hummus to share our server ordered us a large portion which was enough for 4 people instead of a small portion which would have been adequate.

What a beautiful restaurant! The decor is gorgeous, the menu is rather unique and interesting and the food is outstanding. We had a reservation and were running late but they were still able to accommodate us. The servers are knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting New York City.

Beautifully presented, delicious, fresh exotic food and drink. Wait staff was exceptionally friendly. It's not cheap but well-worth the splurge. I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant.

Everything was great! The food was delicious, served promptly and the service was superior. I had marked on the app that it was my parents' anniversary and the dessert was served with a candle without any reminder to the staff. It made the occasion feel very special. All of the servers could not have been nicer or more accommodating. We arrived at 5:45 and left around 7 and the noise level was pretty quiet throughout, it also helped that the tables are a good distance so you're not right on top of the other guests. Highly recommend this place!

Everything we ordered was beyond delicious; the biggest problem was making a selection because the entire menu was so enticing. My favorite item was the grilled whole cauliflower. This was an especially delicious version, served over tangy labneh , best scooped up with the focacia bread. We also really liked the roasted chicken, fresh squid, and crispy fallafel.

Terra Cotta Lam Kebabs we perfectly cooked and seasoned, the baked Branzino was too. It also was presented nicely on the plate and easy to eat. The staff was friendly, attentive and professional with a great sense of humor. They seemed to manage the constant flow of guests with ease. For the amount of traffic they had that night, it wasn't noisy. We will go back

Taboon is a special place to take both your local and out of town foodie friend who especially like innovative mediterranean cuisine. I recommend their flatbread stuffed with spicy feta cheese to share. For dessert try the Silan (I think that show it's spelled) which is vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce covered in shaved halvah. Fantastic! Great service but it can get pretty noisy.

OK, I have to say how much I love this place! Been coming for years and wouldn’t ever come to NYC and miss it unless there was a catastrophic reason causing it, LOL!

Firstly, the staff is helpful friendly and unobtrusive. The food experience is superb. This time my friend and ordered the cauliflower app which had a slight char and was served with a lovely tangy labneh sauce. Was delicious! Also shared the avocado salad, also terrific. Then I had the giant prawns wrapped in pork belly with lentils and middle eastern spices. So delicious! My friend had the lamb kabobs which was really a pot pie of lamb meatballs in a perfectly spiced sauce. I shouldn’t neglect telling you about the awesome bread that was fresh from the Taboon and so fabulous. We of course had food to take home and it made for a lovely lunch the next day. Put this one on your list and I believe you will return time after time.

Taboon is one of my favorite restaurant in New York and maybe in the US. This is no ordinary middle eastern cuisine but raised to a level of sophistication in which one is trying to discern the complicated and delicious flavorings. If bread is a no-no, I suggest passing on the wood fired, highly seasoned scrumptious bread ever. You will be missing out. Pair it with the incredible hummus , the likes of you have never tasted, and it will be a match made in heaven. You can make a meal of the meze such as my favorite eggplant with burrata or the grilled octopus with avacado?...both of which are just amazing. Order another bread to scoop it all up! The branzini is fabulous as is their steak dish for meat lovers. And don't pass on dessert. I could go on and on. I don't even like telling to many folks about this place as it is a NY gem but it is too good not to share. Enjoy!

The food, service and ambience are all good here. We particularly like the meze, which are more varied and interesting than the entrees. Cocktails, however, tend to be small and weak. Better go with the wine.
