What Insiders Are Saying
Taboon is one of the best restaurants in Hell's Kitchen, especially if you get down on Middle Eastern food. But also even if you don't.
The food here is so fresh, flavorful and beautifully presented. Warm, cozy ambience with the glowing taboon there at the entrance. A bit higher price point for the neighborhood and noise level moderate. A definite local fave!
Taboon is fantastic food, but give your time for the service. Communicate if you have a show to go to and then stay on them if your food isn't coming!
Steak wasn't taste same as before...
I've been there few years ago and I was very impressed about food.
I wanted to have scallop appetizer but it's no longer anymore and steak tasted more sweet like bbq marinated before but it was just like normal steak taste now..
And little noisy. Other thing was fine.
Solid and inventive food. Walked a bit after the theatre to get there, and it was worth the effort. Bread, dips and meats all delicious.
Incredible food! Amazing service!
I have had many fabulous dinners at Taboon, especially love the chees-stuffed bread.
Staff was extremely helpful in accommodating our rather large group. Our waiter was great and the food amazing .
Will be back
Always consistently great! Dining room very noisy but we were given table in first room near kitchen. Much better and cozy. Great place to meet friends
Food is delicious and location convenient for theater district, but we ordered the prix fix dinner and were surprised with the charges for all the little extras that were needed. Not such a deal!!
We LOVED this place. Really terrific food, nicely presented. Tasty, innovative herbs and spices. Good variety of choices. I had been here once before, and it lived up to my good memories of the place. We had appetizers, salads, and small plates (the "Mezes" menu). Wonderful food.
The waitress was especially thoughtful and helped us get to our theatre on time. The location is pretty out of the way for a return WITHOUT a nearby theatre date, but both of us were very happy with our meals and with the lovely service. We'll be back!
Always one of the best option around! Amongst my favourite restaurants in NYC
So incredibly yummy! Took 3 friends who were visiting from out of town and it became the one restaurant they raved about all week.
Very tasty , eastern mediterranean food . The ambience is simple, yet elegant. It is worth a visit.
Great food, could eat there daily!
Always a delight. Every part of the menu is a delight. Service is great.
Outdoor chairs not comfortable if you have time to linger.
Brought my out of town clients here for dinner. They loved it. This is a neighborhood gem and one of my favorite places. Great value and truly excellent food.
Pretheater good food. Good service. Sat a table with a baby right on top of us and the restaurant was empty.
My favorite in NYC !!! Should not be missed. From the creative menu to the best staff ever, a remarkable gem !!!
Great place great food terrific service
One of the best middle eastern foods in NYC, a bit expensive but worth it for special occasions.
This was out first time at Taboon and it exceeded our expectations. Everything about it was perfect: food, service and ambience. Though we do not live in NYC we are planning our next dinner there for October. We love Middle Eastern good and this was a find!
Had a great meal after the theater. Lively crowd great food
The bread may have been the best bread I have ever had! The staff was wonderful and super helpful I left it up to them to decide my dinner and appetizer and they were fantastic! Absolutely loved the squid!
Terrific, terrific, terrific - been here twice, and it's been great both times. This was a special gathering to celebrate two birthdays, and they helped with a birthday surprise as well. Superb food, great service, lovely find.
Fabulous bread and hummus, fabulous cauliflower! Lamb was a bit salty, service was great, comfortable chairs and noise level. We will be back!
I have been to Taboon many times since it opened. Over time the service and food have been declining. The bread was not fresh, we were overcharged for items, the wait staff rushed us and rolled their eyes when we were ordering, and the main courses were no longer simple and tasty (too many ingredients were used for a flavor of nothing in particular). I will not go again. I was severely disappointed.
Had one night in Manhattan to impress my sister from Naples, FL before the theater. Since I had dined here before I insisted on ordering four meze so that she could have a good sample of the many tastes available at Taboon. When you see “wood-fired” on the menu, order it. We dined on the chopped salad, bursting with fresh vegetables and loads of mint, along with the “wood-fired cauliflower” layered over labneh. Then we moved on to the Moroccan meatballs and the whole smoked melanzane (again, Wood-fired) with roasted cherry tomato salad and burrito. They all went very well with perfectly prepared dirty martinis and an outstanding Albariño. Our server, James, and the host, Alphonse, were exceptional.
Taboon used to be amazing, the recent visit, the menu has changed, the food wasnt as good. I feel they have a new chef and I didnt feel the service was as good as it used to be.
Food and service were excellent. I had heard many great things and everything we selected from our menu was absolutely divine! Would highly recommend and we cannot wait to go back! It's a must!
The food was just delicious. The grilled octopus and the houmms with focaccia was to die for.
Taboon has become one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Exceptionally good food, nice wines by the glass, and intimate and welcoming ambiance, great staff.
Restaurant week pix fixe menu was excellent. Recommend adding on house dips. Charming, sophisticated waitress. Outstanding food and experience. Deserves the “best Mediterranean in the city” accolades.
I made my reservation several weeks in advance and still they tried to seat me outside when only moments before there was a torrential rain storm (unpleasant and muggy). Needless to say, I declined that invitation. Service was not great - couldn't get our server's attention often enough (when we wanted to order another bottle of wine!), 2 members of our party had the wrong entree served to them (management apologized, but the rest of our party were 3/4 finished with their meal by the time the other two had the correct meal served to them). Dessert was nice. Gratuity of 20% was automatically added to our bill.
Outstanding restaurant. All dishes were distinctive and complex. Service was excellent
Good food (used to be amazing).
Overall a solid good meal. The crispy squid and baba ganoosh were excellent! The rest of the food was salted too much and the steak was choice at best, very grissely. Service was great, we asked for help on the menu and received good advice. Would have liked to seen a better sampler to introduce new items for someone with little Mediterranean pallet experience.
OK, you say. This guy only writes glowing reviews. But wait. I only review very good/excellent exeriences. Ask me directly for those we haven’t enjoyed and I’ll tell you. I just won’t diss a restaurant on social media.
Having said that, Taboon. SWELL! They were outstanding to honor our request for bar seating - it was reserved when we arrived. The bartender was attentive, helpful and professional. The kitchen, excellent. The half chicken ‘maschan’ was more than enough for both of us and the baby gem and frisee salad was fresh, unique & delicious; even more so accompanied by the excellent foccacia. The Israeli Cab was delicious x2 with our meal. GO!
Excellent food, always special!
Dined there and had the restaurant week menu. Everything was divine. Will definitely be back!
Went for dinner on a Friday evening with a friend and decided to do the Restaurant Week menu. The waiter was extremely friendly and attentive. Service was great. Food was okay. They gave us complimentary bread (which looked good but neither of us ate it). The octopus was really good. Crispy and not over cooked. The fish kebabs were not what I expected at all. They were more like fish meatballs and they came in a really oily, creamy base which looked way too heavy for me. The menu mentioned a red sauce which it did have, but the cream sauce dominated it so I tried to eat around it but it was hard because there was so much. My friend’s cauliflower dish also came in a heavy yogurt sauce which she couldn’t eat either. Wish menus were more descriptive of the items because we probably would have chose differently. I probably wouldn’t go back but only because it’s in the UWS and a bit out of my way. The staff was great thought, especially the waiter.
