The perfect place for a business lunch, meeting friends out on the patio, everyday dining, special celebrations or brunch with the family.
Come for the scene. Stay for the service. Return for the fare.
My family took me out for lunch. Didn't like the table we sat at, or the design of the restaurant. All of our meals were okay. Nothing outstanding. The steak tatare was served with Gaufrites which was kind of interesting. My meatballs with kale didn't work, and was hardly a dish befitting of a bistro. Nor we're crab cakes, or halibut Cobb salad. I would never recommend this as a bistro restaurant .
I'm still a fan but barely. Food was very good and service was efficient. However, compared to my previous visits, the service was not "real". I felt like I was being swept up into a reality show voting process. Staff were all wearing T-shirts lobbying for votes. Postcards on the tables urging the same. KEEP IT REAL!!!!
Have walked by often, finally had a chance to check it out. Came there on a "first date"; chose it because it seemed quiet/intimate. Perfect for conversation. Wasn't competing with the sound system! Will be back
Honestly, this was a great meal. Our server was utterly charming. The food was really delicious. The French Onion soup was really great. I had the Braised Shortrib and it is the best one I have ever had in Vancouver (I order this dish quite often and this was nirvana). Everyone else in our group raved about their meal as well. Very pleased that top notch service was provided for my two bottles of wine I brought and paid corkage on - the corkage charged was more than fair, and both bottles were decanted and served in appropriate stemware. Best of all - the pricing is more than fair and Tableau provides excellent value. Thank you so much. We will be back.
I had heard great things about the food at Tableau and the food did not come anywhere near to living up to those expectations. my appetizer was a the tuna cakes which were unimaginative and could have been something I whipped up at home with a tin of tuna and some potatoes. Both myself and a friend had the fish collar which was breaded and deep fried - I've had better at a fish and chip stand. Again it was completely unimaginative and flavourless. My partner had pasta with meatballs - again it was boring.
Such a disappointment - we won't be returning and I won't be recommending it.
Great place to start the weekend with champagne and oysters on their sunny patio. Then a glass or two of BC wine or two with pommes frites.
Alain and Laurence (sp?) steal the show in Vancouver. Food and the patio are great to boot as well. Bravo!
I went to Tableau for brunch and was impressed so I wanted to try it for dinner. However, I was quite disappointed with my dining experience. I ordered the Halibut dish. I thought it was mediocre. The presentation was sloppy and the flavours were dull. It lacked complete flavour! I love fennel but the roasted fennel did not work. The fennel should have been either carmelized or as a confit. The red pepper and tomato fondue was more like a ketchup.
I would not recommend Tableau for dinner, however the brunch is great.
Starting with a wonderful table and a warm and informative server, this meal was a standout in Vancouver. Foie gras special to start, along with salads, our mains were the Duck confit with cassoulet beans , duk breast, and lamp chops cooked to perfection. Clafoutis and crime brûlée, coffee Ned cappuccinos for dessert. Go? Go!!!
The restaurant is OK for drinks and appetizers, I wouldn't recommend a meal - especially dinner. The steak frites were a huge disappointment - beware - the restaurant will slice the steak before they serve it - so you should ask them not to before hand. The highlight of our meal was the mushrooms on brioche starter. On the ambiance, we were misled on the table - I called ahead to ask for a good table because we were celebrating a birthday - and was given advice that we would be getting a nice booth by the window. This translated in reality to a booth by the bar, and near the entrance way and hostess station (quite a bit different from the "nice booth by the window"!) It felt like we were in the way!
We were a party of 4. The service was excellent and the food was wonderful. I will certainly return with my wife and try dinner or brunch. This is a very busy place so a reservation is really needed
Must. Have. Fried Chicken. And Waffles.
This place was a hit and miss. The mushrooms on toast was dynamite! Who knew that a simple concept could produce such bold and distinctive flavours. The chicken & waffles, on the other hand, failed to hit home run with our expectations. Then again, this is a French bistro so you'd be better off with the classics. On the side note, we were really pleased with the ambiance of the restaurant. The interior will transport you to Paris with its chic and sophisticated flare. I'd return to try their dinner menu.
I've been twice now, once with a group of 14 and once with just two of us. I really enjoyed my dinner both times. The service was friendly and the food was very tasty and well presented. If you get to have the Lemon Chiffon Cake, don't miss the chance!
Joined a "new friend" for lunch, couple things I wanted to try contained mushrooms, which I can't eat. Too bad, but that's my problem. C'est domage.
"New Friend" had the Steak Tartare with crisp potato wafers, which he said was very good. I had basically a caprese sandwich, which was also nice. We essentially had the restaurant to ourselves since we got there after the lunch rush. Quite corner booth. "New Friend" very much liked the huge Marilyn Monroe pictures from "Something's Gotta Give" (pool scene)...so at least I know which way he swings :). Korinna....you're awesome (as always)
Yes I said bites! The food here is amazing and perfect for sharing or having a reasonable meal. The portion sizes are perfect, not small not to big, everything we had was just right! The wine list has an excellent range of regions and prices. Our Waiter was Kenton again, amazing. Excellent knowledge of wine and the menu. We enjoyed his comments and suggestions, he added fun to our night and made our evening entertaining and memorable. This is a must go, must eat, must meet friends place to go!!
We've only ever gone to tableau for brunch, but the food and service has always been excellent. What I would recommend is the Chicken and Waffles, which has been difficult to find in Vancouver (most places want to put a chicken sandwich on a waffle bun), but Tableau's version is legit. For the uninitiated, Chicken and Waffles is exactly how it sounds: fried chicken on top of waffles served with sides of gravy or maple syrup. That's it. Sweet and salty. The chicken here is boneless and has a nice crispy batter. The waffles are neither too crisp or too soggy. My husband had the Eggs Florentine, which also looked very good. I would happily recommend this restaurant to anyone.
You know a restaurant is first class when you can order a Vesper Martini and they say right away sir, rather than giving you a blank stare.
Nice place. Listen to the recommendations. I strayed and mine wasn't as good as my friends. Salmon special was beautiful and delicious as recommended.
The menu, like the restaurant itself, puts quality over quantity. The server was knowledgable and maintained a perfect balance between attentiveness and inobtrusiveness. The food was delicious, the wine selection was impressive and the ambience was intimate even though it was bustling.
We also had good service. We were 20 minutes late for our reservation for brunch on Father's Day, and they had no problems seating us. The food was tasty and arrived quickly. I will definitely return to Tableau soon!
First time at Tableau, I was concerned about noise levels after reading negative comments, but it was surprisingly quiet. Half way through a large group sat behind us so noise levels went up a bit but nothing disruptive.
The food was excellent. My husband had the rabbit terrine to start and loved it. I 'only' had the garden salad but it was perfect - tender leaves, lovely vinaigrette.
For entrées my husband had the steak frites. The meat was tender and tasty, and he adored the sauce. I had the special: beef tenderloin cooked sous vide, with crispy polenta. It was amazing: possibly the most tender beef filet I have ever had. Our waitress was very attentive but never overbearing and made great wine recommendations.
Will definitely go back!
Had our 33rd wedding anniversary dinner here because we had been before and my wife said let's go again. A very friendly place quite cozy, met a couple from Denmark and helped make them feel welcome to Canada. Will go back again.
Duck breast are very juicy and tender. The service are very friendly. Plus they have a incredible wine list! Even have my favourite 5-Puttonyo Tokaji. Fantastic!
A nice little French bistro with good classic bistro food in the heart of downtown Vancouver.
we were there on sunday morning. lovely venue. the server did not know the menu and stumbled to special requests. no specials, no refills for coffee and very slow to respond to any requests. they certainly need to step up their game and offer more if they want to be a destination
Overall experience was great, food came on perfect timing. Food was magnificient, great plating and beautiful colors. Best cesar I've had in awhile. Nice dining area not crowded or tight space, nice interior, def coming back.
Great service, fabulous food, and a great atmosphere. Great little spot to come back to!
My favorite french cuisine restaurant. Unfortunately, this time only, waitress did not pay to much attention to us.
only issue for us was 3 people at a small table for 2 when we had made a reservation was a little cramped! we made it through but would have preferred a better table.
The occasion was a "decade" birthday and both the food and the service were exactly what we would expect from a first-rate restaurant. This was our first visit but we will certainly return.
The decor is beautiful, classy and warm without being too stuffy. The service was perfect...our waiter even had a French accent! The food was delicious with great presentation, and our waiter did a great job with wine pairings. We also really enjoyed the signature cocktail list. Our only regret was not staying for dessert. We can't wait to go again!!
Always a nice reliable choice for lunch. Good/friendly service and nice daily specials.
During our recent trip to Vancouver we had a chance to dine here and were very excited after reading great reviews. They did not disappoint! The food was great, cooked perfectly, flavors blended well and arrived promptly. Service was great on all ends, from the hostes greeting us with a smile and happily taking our coats, to the server explaining all the options with a smile and delivering our food with great timing. Would definitely recommend this place, over and over.
Always wonderful to see Chef Mark Andre! Great food and wine as always!
Good restaurant for if you want to enjoy some good french style food.
Excellent food, but in true authentic French feel, the table was far too small. Three of us were seated at a small two seat table and our neighbouring tables were no more than six inches away. Otherwise, the food, service, wine list and ambience were good.
Love coming here for brunch. Had dinner a week ago with friends and not surprisingly, it was awesome.
my first experience here was great - food, service, ambience - so i was excited to bring my husband and teenage son on a return trip. unfortunately that was less great and will be the last time i eat here. even though the restaurant was not full, the three of us were jammed in a small, made for 2 corner table, and with two males over 6 feet tall it was an uncomfortable evening. at the end the waitress asked us if we were too cramped and suggested that next time we ask for a different table. we shouldn't have to ask - i was kicking myself that i let them sit us there in the first place but with a hefty bill for appies, dinner, cocktails and wine, i sure won't do it again.
We celebrated our son's birthday at Tableau, this is my 3rd visit and the food and service have consistently been top-notch. I love the french bistro food there, frites in a basket and fresh, warm sourdough bread. Had the porkbelly/prawn appy (delicious) and steak + frites. Our server was attentive and sensitive to some people in our group's gluten / dairy intolerance. Fairly high noise level is a negative though, it was a bit difficult to carry on a conversation - which could be the music or poor acoustics. It is a great spot to stop in if you live in the neighbourhood - Downtown / Coal Harbour. Street parking is fairly easy to get (but a bit pricey).
