Contemporary American
Table is a small, seasonal, New American restaurant in the heart of downtown Asheville. Always inventive and at times whimsical, chef Jacob Sessoms’ daily changing menu is inspired by a wealth of American culinary traditions, paying particular homage to the South. Upon opening the doors in 2005, Table committed to supporting, celebrating, and showcasing regional and sustainable agriculture. Jacob and his team foster long-standing relationships with farmers and purveyors in Western NC and throughout the Southeast.

Complimenting the critically acclaimed cuisine is an equally intelligent and imaginative wine and craft cocktail list, represented both in the dining room and upstairs at The Imperial Life cocktail and charcuterie lounge.

It was our first visit. We had a nice experience. Our only criticism was the noise level. I couldn’t hear the server when she was talking to us. The food was good. The bread was amazing. We will try again and see if there’s a quiet corner.

Family of four, including a 94/year old went out the night before Thanksgiving. The food was deliciously, atmosphere relaxed and pleasant, and the service very good.

Very good food and an excellent wine list. Clearly the burgers are the thing to order but we ordered wreck fish, trout, pork crepinettes and a braised beef and it was all terrific. Still, when we go back, I think I am going to have to try the ribeye burger and fries.

It was a quiet fall night when I went. I sat at the bar/counter and watched the food being cooked. I had a nice conversation with the manager(?) about how Portland, OR and Asheville are similar, wine, and wreckfish.

I HATE radicchio but that warm salad had just enough fat and sweetness to balance the bitterness.
I had never heard of wreckfish, but I am now a fan.

If I lived here, I would be a regular.

The House-Cured Coppa was a big dissapointment. Very tough and virtually impossible to chew. The Hen of the Wood mushroom appetizer was much better. I would order it again.
For our entree we split the NY Strip Steak with cauliflower, greens, almond picada. The mashed cauliflower and greens were delicious. The steak was one of the best strips I have had in awhile. Cooked and seasoned perfectly.
I'm only giving them 4 stars because of the Coppa. Everything else was exceptional.
I will go there again.

I’ve eaten at Table half a dozen times or so and have never left unimpressed. The quality of the food and the attention to detail make it comparable to any restaurant I’ve ever eaten.

The food was too fussy and not that well executed or tasty. They did give us a complimentary dessert after a complaint about a dish. It didn’t feel worth the money the food costed.

My Brother and sister in law were visiting and I wanted to take them to a very nice restaurant. Our table was ready when we got there, and we were greeted enthusiastically. Our table was very nice, ambiance was such that it wasn’t so quiet you had to whisper but also didn’t have to scream to be heard. Our food was not only delicious the presentation was amazing. I know I’ll be back as I’ve been telling friends and they’re wanting to go too.

Went to table with my wife for a special date night. Upon arrival we felt that the staff was aloof and less friendly and accommodating than we are used to in Asheville. Our appetizers were good but the portion of my wife’s was very small. The main courses were underwhelming given the high price. This restaurant is not worth it, especially in a food town like this where there are many excellent places with better food and less lofty attitude. The bar upstairs is cool, but I won’t be back for the food.

This is a typical pretentious eatery. They must put more stock in their laurels than their cooking. I had the $29 triggerfish that was recommended by our server. We asked that he not "fire" our dinner too quickly as we were not in a hurry. Next thing a food runner is delivering our entrees. The fish was so tough I needed a knife to cut it. I asked the waiter why it was so tough and he took it back to the kitchen where he said the chef said it should never have been served. He brought another one but by now my husband was finished eating. All in all we were not impressed.

The friendliness of the staff was great. Our server really knew the menu and was very informative. The food was tremendous. I would definitely recommend Table Asheville to fine dining connoisseurs. You will definitely enjoy this restaurant.

Our server was NOT warm. She came across as cold and precise.
We have dined in fine restaurants all over the world and LOVE to leave good reviews.
Sadly we cannot with Table.
The food was ok but not worth going back and I would not recommend.

This was the second time I had eaten at Table, it had been a few years since I'd been to Asheville and had a meal then the first time. My companion and I both commented it was one of the best meals we'd ever had. They change the menu every night and each dish is fresh, creative and a delight. The service is friendly and top-notch. And they went above and beyond to accommodate the fact that we were running late due to heavy rains. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant, highly recommend.

Simple delicious and beautiful in all ways. Service were very considerate. We had allergy issues and the server checked with the chef on several items and offered creative options. The presentation was beautiful on the plate and delicious to eat. I loved being connected to the farm—- the source of the food. Will come again next time we are in town.

Excited about the menu. Had reservations. Walked into venue and immediately to our right was two cooks discussing when their shift was going to end. We were then greeted by “Do you have a reservations?” 3 of the 10 tables were seated and we were told to wait. I went to the bathroom and came back, my guest went to the bathroom and came back and we were still not seated. I was enjoying a great wine list and was excited about my food order to receive a raw egg and 3 ingredients missing from the dish that the server told me were part of the ingredients of the dish. I was starving so I asked for a cooked egg rather than a whole new dish. While removing the raw egg, I uncovered 4 tbsps of vinegar and oil pooled in the bowl. My friend ordered crispy fries and got greasy limp saturated fries which were inedible. The worst part about the experience was that 3 of 3 servers did not acknowledge the discarded oil, soggy fries or the service return to the extent of service avoidance. On our way out, we observered another patron sending food back bc her shrimp was uncooked and she opted not to have another dish. I would not recommend this place due to food quality and lack of customer service.

We enjoyed our brunch at Table

The Devils on Horseback was absolutely delicious and left us wanting more. And everything we ordered was so satisfying and tasty— the Israeli breakfast, shrimp and grits and steak and eggs.
And our server was friendly and attentive.

The food was excellent— unique and interesting. Super fresh Babs local. Best oysters ive ever had. Great attention to detail. Interesting wine list. Very helpful adjusting for my myriad food issues. Service so helpful and knowledgeable. Went there twice in a week I liked it so much

In my humble opinion the kitchen is staffed by zealous black belt cooks who blend art and science successfully. Simply splendid food and wine served by truly lovely people. I make it a point to dine at Table every time I visit AVL. Go. Eat. Be happy!

The actual execution of our dishes wasn’t great. The tuna was overcooked and didn’t have a dead on it. The rib-eyes were also not cooked well. It almost seemed like the pan they used wasn’t hot enough. The acoustics and noise level made it almost impossible to hear the server, let alone have a dinner conversation.
I had high expectations for the food but wouldn’t go back or recommend it.

As always, the food was delicious. The service this time was a little off. Little things like not bringing enough ketchup for French Fry's and when asking for some, it never arrived. Also asked for sweetener for my coffee and by the time it arrived, the coffee was no longer hot. While the food was generally good, I specifically asked for my French Fry's to be cooked well done and delivered hot. My opinion, is that the Fry's at this point should not have been delivered cold and soggy. Nice try, but swing and a miss.

Food was not quite what we were expecting. Several of the dishes were OK just not great. The steamed fish was also over cooked slightly and did not have much flavor. The wines by the glass were also ok and we expected a little more. We thoroughly enjoyed the fig pot de creme at the end.
