We are return patrons, and always order their mussels. However on this visit the mussels served were the tiniest we have ever seen, anywhere, and besides that were stringy, also a condition we have never observed in mussels. When we remarked on this the waitress immediately removed what we hadn't eaten, and brought back a second order -- but of course they were the same. We realize the chef had to deal with whatever was supplied to him, but in my opinion he/she should have stopped serving them as soon as their condition was observed (I heard another server taking another order while we were waiting for our apology order). Also, although our server brought us a little more bread to sog up the meuniere sauce, we were not offered or served the usual basket of bread for the table. Perhaps the restaurant has changed its policy in that regard. Fortunately the French onion soup was as excellent as we have come to expect.
One of the worst tasting meals I’ve ever had.
Delicious food, efficient service, cozy atmosphere!
Food was delicious
Service was great
One of the best dinners we have had in years. Don't hesitate to split entrees and try a bit of everything!
Exquisite food and service. We were a little concerned about being dressed appropriately after reading some reviews since we’d been exploring Rocky Mtn National Park all day and we were definitely dressed casually. I mentioned this to the hostess and she graciously commented “we’re mountain casual - you’re just fine.” We were shown to our requested outdoor table and enjoyed spectacular lobster rolls, mussels, paella and a flank steak. We got what we paid for along with warm, welcoming service from our server. If you’re in the area, don’t miss this opportunity!
I would say that the Tabernash Tavern is designed to best serve small groups. 4 or less.
We had a group of 9, and it seemed to rock them a bit.
I will come back with a smaller group.
Apparently, they were short on cook staff, so it took a much longer time to get our food.
Our server was great, but the hostess seemed a bit stressed and rude.
Good luck to the Tabernash Tavern in getting the proper staff to keep this really good restaurant where it has been in the past.
Food was pretty good. Steak and seafood dishes were excellent. The lobster roll appetizer was not that great as it was basically a very small quantity of lobster on a hot dog bun. This could definitely be improved upon.
Food was outstanding. Lamb burger especially! Tom our server was marginal at best. Indifferent and inattentive, guess he knew he would get a 20% tip because of our large party.
Typically our very favorite place in Grand County. We love love love the lobster rolls and had recommended the lobster mac'n cheese to our mom who joined us for the first time. We have had them a ton and they are amazing, however they came out with about a third of the lobster that they typically do. Her Mac'n cheese had specks, not chunks. Then the table next to us ordered lobster mac and were told the restaurant was out. I appreciate they spread the remaining amount between out three dishes to give us what we ordered, but it was clear they should have told us there was only enough for one, maybe two of our orders. The food here is so good it would have been perfectly acceptable to order something else. It's hard to go wrong, but that night they did. We will be back, and often, because we love the place, the service is awesome and the food is the best. This is just a note for the chef from some semi-regulars - hold up your standards rather than try to meet our order request. You are so good it won't be a disappointment for us.
We loved the food and were very pleased with the service we received from Tiffany. We arrived a few minutes before our 7 PM reservation and were seated in the room near the bar with someone singing into a microphone. Unacceptable. Too small a room for amplified music. We asked to be seated elsewhere because of this. We were told the singer stopped at 7 so we waited outside. He stopped and in we went.
Tabernash Tavern does their reservations through Open table. In the process i was asked if we were celebrating anything. I filled in that it was our Anniversary. Not sure why because nobody asked and there was no offer of anything from the restaurant.
The food was incredible and imaginative and the service wonderful. We will be back.
Interesting menu, expertly prepared. The wine list is extensive and the cocktails creative...many beer choices too. Find the dijon ice cream...star complement to the starters in our opinion!
Our waiting was outstanding. He was attentive, informative, and respectful. The Halibut was outstanding as was the onion soup. The Kobe beef was a little tough but still very flavorful. Portions were generous so no room for dessert. We had a great time with our friends and were never rushed. We will return and recommend your restaurant to others.
We have been to this restaurant many times and were extremely disappointed in the food. This is obviously not cheap place to eat so you expect above and beyond. We were a party of 3 and our check at the end was just under $300.
The filet mignon was not cooked properly for either person and the ribeye, which one would expect to be fatty, was horrible, had to basically tear it apart to find a piece of meat you could actually chew. Had to more or less convince the waitress to substitute the vegetables that came with the dinner as she said you cannot substitute anything.
We ordered a bottle of wine that I believe was supposed to be a 2016 Cabernet but we were brought a bottle of 2017...thought that was quite odd. We were on vacation and so looking forward to what we thought was the best restaurant from Grand Lake to Winter Park. Obviously didn’t live up to what we were hoping for.
I doubt we will ever return.
Oh and the previous night we stopped in for a night cap has sambuca the waiter behind the bar was looking for coffee beans in the weirdest places ( like being the cash register, I mean thank god he didn’t find them because it would have been so gross to think they would allow him to put beans in your drink he may have found in some dirty area behind the bar.
A total let down...and a waste of over $300.
We Love this the T Tavern, it's a hidden Gem, the food and service are always fantastic.
What happened? We have been here at least 6 times before. We brought out of town guests for what we thought would be a special meal at the Tabernash Tavern. There were no linens on the tables (out of season practice?) and no music ever played, so the ambiance was sorely lacking. There was one waitress in the main dining room for about 6 tables. We waited quite some time to put in our order. My husband asked for bread with his meal; she never brought it until we were all finished after being reminded again. We had to try to about ten minutes to flag someone down to refill water glasses. I had the halibut on beet risotto, which was absolutely tasteless, and had uncooked brussel sprouts shaved on the top, which gave it an unpleasant texture and taste. My husband had the paella, which was more of a cioppino (which he would not have minded), but it was poorly seasoned and the seafood seemed old or freezer burned. One guest left half his steak. I was so embarrassed that I didn't ask why. The other guest had asked to not have the vegetable medley with her meal, but it was served with it anyway. The waitress gave her the bread plate onto which to scrape the vegetables off, instead of bringing it back properly plated without the vegetables. For four of us, the tab was well over $200, which would have been fine had we had the lovely meal we had expected. We will not be back.
Always truly wonderful experience and food is outstanding!! Took friends that had never eaten there and they were extremely impressed!!
Great dinner for a special night out or happy hour!
The service was good - a little slow to clear our dishes and check in about dessert and we needed water and couldn't get anyone's attention, but overall good service and the food was DELICIOUS. The two desserts we shared were wonderful too.
Found this place to be clever and cute in appearance tucked in this mountainous area. But the food was huge miss for me both in description and style. It feels like they just took whatever ingredients they have and made a dish throwing everything weird and unusual together regardless of flavor profiles tc.
Nothing appears as it is described. Disappointing meal.
It was a real treat! We will be back for our anniversary!
At the price point of $200 for 2 people, including a bottle of wine, the food should have been better. The Ahi Tuna Carpaccio appetizer was incredible. The desert was delicious, as was the black coffee. However, the $50 Ribeye steak was about 50% gristle and fat. The rest of the steak was fine I guess, and cooked to order. You could get a better steak at Applebees for $12. The Paella was FULL of peas, so much so that it quickly ruined the dish. Peas are fine, but not when you get a teaspoon of peas with every single bite. The seafood was fine, not fishy as far as I could tell. The service was fine, although we thought it was odd that our waitress did not refill our wine glasses, which is normally the case in "fancy" places like this. We saw other waiters filling their tables' wine glasses. We will 100% be celebrating at home, with reasonably priced ingredients and much better steaks, next time around.
Food was excellent, and the setting was very Colorado! It was nice to find a thoughtful and creative dining experience near Winter Park. The wine list was also on point...
We were disappointed since it was our last hoorah after 6 days in Winter Park(a girls only outing). The homemade bread was as hard as rock, my lamb chops were cold and the filet was just okay. They forgot my sister's calamari on top of her salad.
Food was wonderful, but service by Mary was lacking in every way. Been coming here for years, but we’ll think hard about it next time.
Food was fantastic and our server was fantastic as well. Best place in the area!
Great mountain restaurant. The tenderloin was delicious. Highly recommend for a nice mountain dinner.
I had lamb chops that were supposed to be medium rare and they were so raw you couldn't cut through the meat. They were also 80 percent fat. My wife had stuffed chicken that was super dry and overcooked! I told the waitress to inform the chef of the raw food and she agreed and apologized but it's the fact it was a waste of $54. The sides were good and I was able to eat about 10 percent of the lamb. My wife ate hers as we didn't want to make a big deal of the horrible food. The staff does t seem to really care a out your experience and are very proud of their food
We found the food excellent, affordable and we sat at the bar and the service was great. I hear some bad reviews but we found the food wth great taste and good serving side
The menu was also really fun with some unique options
We had an early dinner and were very happy with the service, the dining area, and the menu! All 4 of us loved the food and will definitely come back! Thank you from 4 old “Okies”
Wonderful venue. Food was great!
5 years ago this was one of the best restaurants I had gone to but over last few years the quality of the food has decreased to point where I have been there twice in last two weeks and have left both times feeling I did not receive the value for the food or service. It took almost 20 minutes on Sunday night to bring wine to the table - think this was not the server but rather the kitchen/bar; last two visits we received no bread. Menu has not been as local lately with limited Elk, etc.
Still a place I would bring out of town guests for a special occasion but will no longer be a place that I will visit with locals given price/value equation is now better at other local restaurants.
Birthday party for six!
Always our favorite restaurant in Grand County
The food was just okay. My filet was well prepared and the entrees around the table were largely good, but my gin & tonic was watered-down and the desserts were most definitely frozen or boxed.
Worst of all was the service. Simply abysmal. From the moment we walked in the door and encountered the indifferent hostess to our server who was largely unfamiliar with the menu and the chef’s cooking methods. Further, we had to ask another server three times to summon her.
If this were a Friday’s or Chili’s I’d say we got what we paid for. But when Tabernash’s steaks cost the same as Mastro’s steaks ($52 for an 8oz filet), the service had better be impeccable, but it was nowhere near. This was a colossal waste of money.
For anyone seeking excellent food and a terrific experience at the same price point, do The Ranch House at Devils Thumb, but definitely do not do this place.
Food was excellent but hostess and staff were very disappointing.
Mixed review. Great appetizers, drinks, service. My dinner, the ribeye, at $49 was not a good value. Veggies seemed as if they came from a bag, potatoes were not freshly prepared. The steak, although tasty, seemed similar to the offerings one might get at an Outback or a Sizzler. We will return but we will stick to the burgers, appetizers, cocktails, etc.
We made a 9:00 reservation on opentable. We realized when we arrived that they close at 9:00 but no one mentioned it and served us in style. A wonderful evening!
I hate to do this to such a quaint little restaurant but the food was very unsatisfying. I ordered the Italian specialty and could barely eat any of it. The gnocchi tasted like clumps of flour, the zucchini noodles were mushy and the chicken was really disappointing. My husband ordered the Suft n' Turf and although it was a lot of food, none of it was done well. The ambiance was great and so was our service.
They also start you off with banana bread which seemed odd to me. None the less, I typically love banana bread but this bread was very dry - I think it was leftover from the previous day or two.
I really wanted to love this place bc we love visiting Winter Park. Unfortunately, we won't be back.
The best food in the valley. Always a variety of entrees and appetizers that will appeal to all diets. Great service and perfect ambiance.
