What Insiders Are Saying
Tabard Inn in Dupont has a reliable brunch, but the patio is a nice spot for dinner (and live jazz), too.
Every time we visit Washington, DC, we have to go to Tabard Inn. It's one of my favorite places for brunch.
Our visit was wonderful. The Tabard Inn is one of our favorite places. The only problem this time was the noise level. We had trouble hearing each other. It quieted down about 1:30, so maybe the time to schedule lunch is late! Staff was very gracious in moving us from outside to inside, but unfortunately it was just as loud!
Very unique old Inn with a lot of character. It was pretty loud so it was difficult to talk with a large table of 6. The food was great
We enjoyed a wonderful Mother’s Day brunch! I will return again!
Food was great as always and we love the atmosphere. However, our party of four arrived at 1:15 for a 1:30 Mother’s Day brunch reservation and we weren’t seated until shortly before 3 pm. Glad we didn’t have children in our group. They definitely overbooked. We were offered earlier seating on a covered patio but it was raining and temperatures were in the 50’s so that wasn’t a comfortable option for us.
We went there for a Mother's Day lunch and arrived a few minutes early for our 1:15pm reservation. At 2:15pm, we were still waiting for our table. At this point, we were all starving and ready to go - which is when they came to tell us our table was finally ready. While they covered the cost of the coffee and cocktails we had before lunch, the entire experience was colored by how long it took to actually get seated. So, I don't think I'll go back here.
Even with the cooler rainy weather we were able to sit outside in the beautiful covered courtyard and enjoy a wonderful brunch.
Excellent experience. Great food and ambiance. Highly recommend.
Tabard Inn is a DC classic. The Inn is more than 70 years old and they have preserved much of what makes it unique. The restaurant and bar have a feel unlike any other in the area. You should dine here.
The place is great. I liked the brunch. The coffee is very good, the sweet plates, and also the eggs are delicious, although the poached eggs were quite overlooked. The place is cozy, a hidden gem in the middle of DC.
Tabard Inn used to be a favorite to take visitors to but no longer. Came for brunch with my parents for a mix birthday/mother’s day celebration and was sorely disappointed. Service was pretty bad and no dietary accommodations that were asked for by my mother were done. I sadly won’t be returning.
I used to love Tabard Inn, but this time I found it so noisy that it ruined our meal. It
was impossible to converse with our friends. I do not enjoy shouting and eating
together. The food was fine but the selection was more limited than I remember. I
wish there were more vegetarian options.
We had a wonderful dinner in the room overlooking the outside space. It was a very unique atmosphere with delicious food. Our waitress was amazing, accommodating and thoughtful. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone coming in to town.
My daughter and I had a lovely meal in the covered outdoor garden. We had the catch of the day soft-shell crab and the seared tuna. The waiter was thoughtful and brought us extra small plates to share our delicious meals. We both would highly recommend.
Great neighborhood gem. Like going back in time to a quaint and quieter time in Washington. The ambiance, food, service and location can’t be beat.
great spot, table for 6, each meal was wonderful, waiter was delightful and entire staff was warm and welcoming...perfect night.
They have very friendly servers and the chicken and waffles were just so good
The place needs a thorough cleaning from top to bottom. Restroom was seriously grungy. Food was just ok, nothing special. The living room fabric looks like it needed cleaning or replacing 10 years ago...maybe that’s why the light level is kept low in there?
The only saving grace: the warm donuts.
Fantastic experience! I took my mom here for an early Mother’s Day brunch when my sister was in town. We sat in a room on the second floor that was so cozy and comfortable, we felt like we were sitting in our living room. It was wonderful! The service was great, the food was great (please try those donuts!) My mom doesn’t get both of her daughters in town often so she and my dad were very thankful to have had such a pleasant experience with us.
Had a special evening. Wonderful service! Loved the food
The menu is so limited and the food was cold, and the options.
Superb meal. Best seared tuna I’ve had in years. Very nice, diverse wine list.
Perfect evening to celebrate my father’s 85th birthday. Focused and warm service, candle on the dessert he chose, and an awesome tuna dish.
We were in town on business and went for Sunday brunch here on a whim. I made reservations and we arrived on time, but decided to wait for a table on the patio, since they said it would be fifteen minutes. Thirty minutes later, I went to check and apparently our table had been ready for twenty minutes but no one ever told us. Oh well. That was the only hiccup. DEFINITELY worth waiting a few minutes to sit on the patio. It’s gorgeous. Sort of like a greenhouse sunroom environment. Really pretty. Everything there was delicious, from the HOMEMADE from scratch doughnuts, to the cauliflower quiche. Service was great, quick, & surprisingly reasonable price-wise considering the city. Definitely will return!
We sat inside although we were offered a table outside which might have been more enjoyable. Inside all was well but it was busy. Food was great; I had the scrambled eggs with chive etc; it was very good.
Every excellent. Food great with only gripe that roast chicken and pork chop were dry. That corrected food would be excellent
The perfect brunch setting and you can’t beat the price for the quality of food! There is a new chef that changed some things, but the shrimp and grits are still 200% amazing!
This is a long time favorite but our experience was not up to par. Even though our servers did what they could, almost everything disappointed. We hope it was an off night. Please keep trying TI!
The portions for lunch are too small.
nice atmosphere in the garden. good service and food.
Definitely worth waiting a bit longer to sit outside on the patio - doesn't even feel like you're in DC! And if you're there for brunch, definitely let the server talk you into getting the donuts; they were the best part of the meal.
We were super disappointed. The service was poor. Our waitress was easily confused, slow and not helpful. The a la carte Easter Brunch wasn't as expansive as the usual one and all 5 of us were disappointed by our entrees. We won't be back
We love Tabard Inn but were extremely disappointed on Easter brunch. The service was super slow, we had to request multiple times over for our drinks to be refilled, the customers next to us received food/drinks after we'd been seated. Our server was flustered and everything felt hectic.
I took my in-laws for brunch who came from out of town. I was so disappointed by the slow service, aloofness of the server, etc. I won't ever go back for a holiday brunch.
The wine bottle was corked and had to be replaced. The wine list is obscure and mostly costly types that people around here arent't that excited about especially if it's not that good. For example, no Prosecco on the list? Where are the many high quality Napa reds? My order of steak pasta was quite bad and gave me the trots later. This is the first time I have had bad food at the Tabard. Might be time for a look at the chef and menu or both.
Service was horrible. Food was uninspired, overpriced, not worth the looong wait it took to get it from a server who pretty much ignored us.
Always a great choice for brunch. The setting and charm pleases everyone, every time. The staff are very professional and friendly. They noticed it was the birthday of one of our large party and took care to acknowledge it, which was lovely.
Lovely food. Staff were excellent. Good value. Really interesting interior design. Would definitely recommend to a friend.
Definitely get the Tabard Trio. And dessert... wow! Such amazing combinations of flavors and textures - not overly sweet, each ingredient stood out. HIGHLY recommend the strawberry pistachio tart!
Loved it! We attended for brunch, loved the food, and the ambiance!
